Can't imagine the kid was fielding right close in to the bat or that any oppo bowler would feel the need to bounce him. If his dad is happy that it's safe then let the kid get some cricket in.

Is it wortth risking your club's ECB accreditation for?

"But it looks safe to me" shouldn't really come into it.

It�s something I�ve had to deal with.

ECB guidance is as follows....

Players who are selected in a County U12 squad in spring for a summer squad or in another squad deemed by ECB Performance Managers to be of a standard above �district level� for that season are eligible to play Open age cricket.

Third man to third man as it�s the right of passage when any younger player comes in to cricket lol. That was how it was when I first started playing but won�t be long before he has a far more prominent role

Sorry, I might have missed the word 'county' before coltz?But I thought they still had to be 12 before the county could sign it off? (13 otherwise.)

I only know this stuff because I recently done a Level 2 coaching course.

My reactions would certainly have been a lot quicker aged 12 than they are now!

No showers until 18 (county or not)... Not that anyone goes in the showers anymore....

Played a very good friendly yesterday, they hit 210 and we ended up 205.

Started bowling spin this season as I can make it turn square on even our Astro. First over their bat on 50 came down and whacked me for the biggest six I�ve ever seen. Ended up getting hit for 16 off that over. Recovered a bit in my next 3, including and inside edge that went past our keeper (tough chance) and mostly just bowled darts to the lad coming down the wicket to get him off strike. We won�t face many batsmen as good as him in our league so still pretty happy with my return.

Opened the batting and with our long batting line up just decided anything not on the stumps was being hit. Got 12 before I nicked one to second slip.

Very good friendly all told played in good spirit

This is correct unless in county squad, have to be 13. My son has had to wait till 13 to play adult cricket, and has been in district level cricket.

Just to clear up the lad is in the county squad and has permission from county coach to play in the mini league format we have this season

Having great season that continued yesterday. Opposition posted 232-9 off 40 overs. We batted 13 overs before rain hit out of nowhere. So D/L came in place with we needing 70 off 10 overs. To maintain average of 7 per over is difficult at club levels for 10 overs I will say.so we did not have much hope with outfield being wet and ball not traveling.

Anyway we knocked it off 11 balls left and only 2 wickets down. Personally averaging 48 this season with 3 not outs. It's huge relief after averaging 9 last year.
Took out My new RS bat for first time and everyone was impressed including opposition.

Hopefully we could win the league with only 2 matches to go.

Good weekend for BCC at last.

Played bottom of the league, and bowled them out for 147 in the 40th. Personally got 2/29 from 8, one well held at cow and the other a caught and bowled that I was surprised stuck low to my left. Wickets shared round. Apart from the skipper chopping on early, all the bats got at least 21. Opener batted through for 48*, number 4 got to 50 then provided some fireworks, not realising how close the opener was to 50. A nice 8 wicket win with 14/15 overs left.

Friendly yesterday, batted first, we put on 222/5. Youngsters stuck their hands up and got runs, our 3s spinner batted and got 68* and I upped the rate with a quick 47. Oppo struggled against my young bowling attack, with some great fielding helping us to bowl them out for 113. Highlight for me was a u12 taking his first senior wickets, courtesy of a great catch at cow and a caught and bowled. Hes on Bucks squads so cleared to play open age.

One or two more games for me to captain this season, hoping to keep my undefeated record intact.

Last league game Saturday. Not a hugely successful mini season. Averaged 19 across all formats, which was better than last year but still no really big scores. Really enjoyed playing a leg drive and some straight drives, as well as a nice cut shot that somehow didn't make the boundary in the long grass. Was going really well in tough batting conditions, then on 19 played across a straight ball and missed. Been playing seriously for 2 seasons but still don't quite value my wicket enough I reckon... Was partnering our smallest junior and felt I had to face most of the deliveries to protect him. That was also perhaps a mistake when the bowling is all on the spot and swinging...
Match was a highlight even though we lost. Archetypal village ground in the middle of a cow field (see the 'Cow Corner' pic) followed by ritual burning of bat on the bbq. Yes, I did offer to mend it, and no it's not mine 😂😂

I think my youngsters are trying to give me a heart attack.

Played a t20 last night, won by one wicket with the winning runs being scored by number 11 as he was dropped at deep mid wicket.

Bowled oppo out for 103, with two u13 seamers impressing, as well as my four off spinners. We then stuttered vs some slow medium bowling off the long run - genuine Toby Roland-Jones length run up for probably a lower pace than my spin. I got 14 before being caught, trying to hit square leg side as they had nobody further square than mid wicket but was early on it and caught at cow. We kept chipping away at the runs, they kept chipping away at wickets. One of my guys, with seven needed to win, looked like he was saying to the keeper he was aiming into the road. Next ball, skied straight to point and admitted he was aiming for the road. Fortunately my u13s got the job done for victory with two balls left.

I'm impressed you're playing evening T20s in September.
