It definitely would have been because of the SS. Even if it was just for having the SS branding on show on the side of the bat. You just can't do that, even if GN were letting him use other brands bats you can't leave their logo on the side of the bat!

Can only assume he picked up one from someone’s kit bag and just loved it hence the branding. If not he would have just had someone contact SS and get X number of there bats made and use the GN edge stickers on fake sets whilst in India and doubt many would know that on TV especially given As most seem to have edge tape all round he top of there bats these days

Did we ever find out what the taping around the top of splice thing  is about?  (Tangent I know.)

You could well be right, I think if you put yourself in GN's shoes...you want the bat to look like  GN bat with no doubts-whether it actually is they would not be the first brand to turn a blind eye as this has been going on for ages from many players.

bairstow does not seem very bright, and he's probably come a cropper here, but he's not the first.

Walk into a small but well known bat maker in Essex and see the signed photo that says 'thanks for everything' although that player never used their bats....perhaps he used their thigh guards I dunno  :o

If JB was only supposed to use “made by GN” bats, why would he have stickers with him? Wouldn’t GN just ship him bats that were already stickered , instead of giving him stickers to apply himself?

I’m not convinced any of these three are GN made bats either tbh.

I got told the story behind this last weekend from his brother. Said batsman had his bats rehandled there.
He preferred the top hand to be bigger and thicker than the bottom hand and trusted that bat maker to do it.

SS made his Spartan bats. Still had the knob sticker when he was showing his new sticks to Ian Ward at Edgbaston in 2018.

He was stickering up GNs during his previous gig too.

I seriously doubt a brand would dump a player per se for having the branding of another company on the end of the bat handle.  For instance, if a big brand ambassador like Kane Williamson did it, I don't imagine for a minute that his deal with GN would be terminated.

What it could do is give legitimate grounds for a brand to dump a player they no longer fancied paying, particularly in a cost  cutting environment.  The type of clause would be gets fairly water  right even if the brand was utilising it opportunistically

Do you mean stickering up GNs? Or stickering as GNs?

Shoulders? Look similar to other definitely Robertsbridge-made GNs I've seen in the past.

Yeah, could be wrong though. And one of them has no stamps either.

Should find out when he plays tomorrow! Could be blank bats for the time being I guess as he has done in the past.
