I think Amir was discussed just a couple of weeks ago and this situation was pretty predictable.Pakistan selection and who plays has always been a hot bed of players being unhappy and then being brought back, and some of them clearly better than the rest being cut off way too early. I think Mohammed Yousef was one I can think of, outstanding player suddenly cast out with no reasoning.
Amir went downhill after the Lords match and was never really had the same impact, he was deadly in our conditions for a while, then injury, fallout, loss of pace etc etc.
As far as being a cheat goes, he will always be one, however I don't share some of the opinions on here that the 3 of them get tarred with the same brush.
Butt was the captain I understand from a wealthy background,Asif the experienced player who would of had influence, Amir from what I have been told by Pakistani friends was from a poor background. All of this info may not mean much to many but I think myself if one of them got another chance of a career it would of been Amir.It turned out that way as Butt and Asif despite trying were never brought back.
I would guess if he could settle in England a County career may await in one of the areas of high Asian population. He would still be a star over here and able to earn a decent living, as well as the short form games worldwide.
Ultimately I think it's a bit sad he will never have the career with Pakistan some thought he might have.
