Great day today. Bowled 4 over of filth, then put my back out and was unable to bat.
Hopefully you recover very soon.

Return to form for me this week after posting up 5 runs in the first three league games. Put on a 160 opening stand chasing 167 in a game we won by 9 wickets. I got run out for 94 trying to get to my ton before we got the chase finished... oops! Good to get some runs and a win though in a year where being short on batting has cost us so far.

Premier league game in a league weakened overall in recent years.

Played a side with an ex pro - played a few games for Worcs some years ago. He proceeded to score 84 off 60 odd balls in a score of 233-5 off 40 overs. He then took 9 wkts for 8 runs, absolutely skittling us, all bowled, all 80mph yorkers. Included giving a send off to one of our batters.

What do you get out of absolutely dominating a game clearly far below the level you should be playing at? As a team mate, what are you getting out of a game where you are a vehicle for his ego?

Rant over!

He gets paid and the other 10 and club members get to chant and crow about how great they are. It's common place now for teams to buy in success from top div downwards. When you come up against said players/teams you just have to smile and realise you're playing on a non level playing field so to speak.

I made my comeback Saturday!   Chiropractor and diet has been helping my fitness. Nearly 11 lbs lost now

Scored a sprightly 16 not out and just bowled the 4 overs - but was great to be back playing and play first league match with my 14 year old. funny how he now bowls before me and quicker!

We set 203 for 4 in 40 overs and they chased them down for 2 wickets with 4 overs left.

Back is ok but thighs, quads and calf killing me today  :D

First of the league cup T20 games last night. Won the toss and batted and found ourselves in trouble at 57-8 off 12 came in at 10 and luckily we gave a few others a chance so myself and sat opener and go batted 9 were able to build a little partnership and get us to 118-9. Managed 38* which after the limited changes with the bat so far this season with the new way our sat skip is going was nice. Pitch was used for its 3rd game in a week and was now a little two paced.

They went off cock a hoop and openers came out giving it the old “finish this in 10 overs and watch the footy which got a few of our lads right up for the challenge.

Opened the bowling and managed to pick up 2 for 8 off my first 3 Overs and they were 21/4 off 8 and then 57-6 off 10 with all of our bowlers keeping it nice and tight and changing pace.

Came back to bowl the 19th over with them needing 31 off 2 overs and took 3 wickets in the over for 6 runs including being on a Hatrick and bagged my first 5 wicket haul for this club and went past 200 wickets in my career which for someone who has mainly been a keeper I’m proud of as now have over 10000 runs ( reckon it’s about 15000 but online play cricket wasn’t about when I first started and no accurate records) and 200 wickets. We won by 22 to got our T20 campaign and as current holders of the T20 cup was a good start and a great effort. Our fielding and catching was superb and was a great game all round.

After an unbeaten May (2 wins and 3 rained off) we've managed to secure our first Saturday win in June on our third attempt. Opened the bowling, got one wicket and kept it tight in first spell coming off after bowling 4 overs with the score on around 10-2 off 8. Oppo rebuilt their innings to around 70-4 off 25 and were starting to accelerate quickly when I came back on, got one of the set batsmen and should have had the other and then ran through the lower order ending up with figures of 5-7 off 8.2 overs as they collapsed to 79 all out. For once I wasn't required to bat as we chased it fairly comfortably for the loss of just two wickets.

Again very bowler friendly conditions as I was getting the ball to swing a fair amount like I have all season however today I finally felt like I had some control on it, the outswingers have been good all season but today the inswingers were also coming off nicely too. Hopefully a good sign for the rest of the season!

We are now winless from our first 5 games in the league.

As per usual with the opposition, they turned up 5 mins after the scheduled start making no apologies. They asked to toss up but were quickly told by our skipper that they were batting as they had forfeited the toss. After a bit of grumbling they came out to bat and immediately there was controversy.

This is the same team who I wrote about denying a run out by 2 yards a few weeks ago. This week their opener was hit infront of all 3 on his back pad and their umpire didn’t give it. Our bowler hadn’t even looked at the umpire and just celebrated, I was keeping yesterday and I’ve honestly never been so certain on an appeal in my life, I’d started running to celebrate with him. When asked their umpire said “ermmm... is erm.... pitching outside the leg” as is the standard excuse with our left armer. Thankfully it didn’t cost us as he batted 10 overs for about 3 runs, but that’s not the point! We got the other opener cheaply before their number 3 hit a 50 in about 5 overs just slogging across the line. Thankfully we got him before he caused any more damage. We dragged it back from 110-4 off 18, to restrict them to 170.

I dropped down to 3 because I kept, but was in after 3 overs regardless. Our other opener was injured so we stuck our 9 & 11 up to open. Their opening bowler was comfortably the quickest I’ve faced in this league & he hit our two openers once each and they were both batting at square leg! I much prefer that type of pace and managed to clip him off my pads a couple of times before he bought himself off. I then got completely tied down by their slow first change bowlers and eventually got bowled for about 10. Once again we ended up 40-6 and didn’t make 100 in reply

Scored 4 trying to up the run rate with 9 overs left. We put up 197 in pretty horrid conditions. Dropped two dollies, bleeding fingernail.

But we won. Good, right? Ah

Quite amusing weekend. I do find it funny when teams can pretty much only bat on roads (aka, simply can't help themselves playing shots and don't really have a defence to keep out good balls) just carry on as usual when it's not a road... oppo all out for 104. breeze of a game and very very boring though. Very low quality cricket played

Oppo skipper given not out on about 20 to the plumbest LBW I've seen all year, "missing leg" when it hit him bang in front of off stump. Goes on to hit a match winning 50 odd in a low scoring chase. Well batted to the bloke but player umpires will be the death of me.

I think it's fair the game I played in Saturday was the worst I've had all season, we lost the toss and got put in to bat on an pitch that had a sheet on all day and night in torrential rain, pitch was very green and very soft. despite that I was feeling in good knick and hit a few nice shots, then when at the non facing end I got run out! Ball smashed back by my opening batting partner, glances the bowlers hand and hits the stumps with me a foot out my crease backing up. Fuming! I've only ever seen it on the telly!
We managed to claw to 131 for 9 off our 45 overs, by this point the pitch had dried some what and coupled with some bad bowling we were back in the pavillion after 25 overs.
Equally frustrating as the team we played were rock bottom of the league and made 9 changes from the week before where they lost by 210 runs.

Our club had a triple header against a club in Kent which have recently shot up through the Kent league, following some heavy "investment" in their 1's in the past 3 years - I would guestimate that 6 of their 1's from the weekend are getting some form of incentive and they were missing 2 others that also will incentivised to play - one of whom was away with the SA A team. Their 2's have an ex-Zimbabwe international. So to win all 3 games, the 1's winning by over 100 runs, was a fantastic effort.
