Footwear 2023 recommendations ??
« on: January 05, 2023, 11:57:20 AM »

So new footwear for 2023? My current asics are 10 years old and my knees are 8 years older than they were when I last played which leaves me at a point where in need of some super comfy, light as possible spikes  :D

So, What's good? What's not? Spiked running trainers? who is the best for spiking trainers? Any recommendations would be great.

Many thanks

Pro Direct have 30% off the adidas range currently....once these sell through that will be it for the brand in the cricket market so grab them whilst you can if they are on your list of Fav's.

Im using the boost still currently to field in and have the Advance 6's to bat in as proper spikes. Ive got a pair of the ASICS strike rate FF waiting for when my Advances wear out.

Been using New Balance CK10s for the past few years and would recommend them, heavily padded so feel a little weird initially but once broken in they're lovely.

ASICS are generally the best but it's just the cost of them now, a few UK brands are selling them but that's post-import from Aus so the prices are up there. Spiked trainers wise, if you're going to do it at least make sure it's a decent pair of trainers/tennis shoes that have suitable ankle support already - most of the brands flogging pre-spiked trainers are using proper basic trainers which just aren't fit for purpose (yet still cost more than a cricket shoe designed exactly for cricket!).

Adidas leaving the cricket game?

Yep hence all their counties moving to new suppliers (see Surrey today) and their sponsored Pros moving on to other brands (Sam Curran etc) 2023 will be the last year of cricket footwear for them too as orders were placed in Nov for retailers to stock them.

The current Adidas distributor has now got Payntr as their cricket footwear brand.

Shame, Ive used NB previously and now have adidias 22yds for 3-4 seasons - still going well due to the lack of cricket in the covid seasons.

Happily wear cheap Jeans and random tops but have always been fussy with footwear and jackets, preferring good brands.

Hence why I prefer cricket footwear from the specialists. I wonder if they can licence their designs to the traditional cricket brands or work closely with them. No idea of the commercials or even if it would be a thing.

Spiked trainers are increasingly the way to go, actual cricket spikes (other than Asics) really aren't great compared to the alternatives available for more widely played sports. The number of bigger makes pulling out or just putting out poor product must be a reflection of how few cricket spikes actually get sold. Tennis shoes if you're a seamer or cross trainers if you're not. You need to find a good deal on the shoes to stop it getting a bit expensive, but the results can be a level above what's currently on the market for cricket.

These are my Nike Court Air Zoom Vapor Pro which I highly recommend on converting to spikes, I have Nike Court Vapor Lite converted too which are a popular trainer to be converted into spikes and I am working on converting Nike Court Zoom Pro into spikes. It does help with the knees especially after I ruptured my patellar tendon (playing football, not cricket) over 5 years ago.

I've got the Adidas Boost from a few years ago and the NB CK10s, happy with both tbh but I'm not overly fussy as long as they fit and are comfortable.

I just can't bring myself to pay £130 for a pair of spiked trainers, which as trainers were worth less than half that. Not having a go at anyone doing them, as obviously there's a market for them and appreciate work goes into them. Maybe it's just me being a typical Yorkshireman! 😆

Just buy trainers at sale prices, not hard to find!
