County championship 2024
« on: April 05, 2024, 08:51:03 PM »

Nit many games managed to get underway today or if so very weather effected.

Sam northeast with a huge 186* shame he looks like he will never get any international recognition as always been a constant performer

Jordan cox with a decent start at Essex although looks like he isn’t keeping which I believe was a reason for him leaving Kent which given Billings is no longer playing red ball could have been a load of nonsense and the truth being Essex offered more money and he felt was better for international chances.

Just great that it means the club season isn’t far behind ( when we finally can get rid of this (No Swearing Please) weather)

Fantastic start by Worcestershire in their first game back in Div 1. Kashif Ali with his maiden championship century. It's going to be a tough year for them, having lost 7 first team players in the last 2 season.

Bizarre that they've decided to use a Kookaburra ball. Even more bizarre they thought doing it in April would be helpful at all!

Spinners causing havoc in the Lancs/ Surrey game. Cannot wait to see Lyon bowl.

Except that it may nullify seamer-friendly conditions a little?

Not that I'm a fan.

There can’t be too many batsmen around that have scored a 400 and a 300 yet never got any international appearances.

The only other first class player I can see from a quick search who scored a first class quadruple century and never played at international level is the Indian player B. B. Nimbalkar (at the time scored 443no, second only the he Don's 452no - interesting story on wiki entry about the completion of this innings, nice that the Don reached out to the player afterwards).

I can't find out if he ever scored a FC triple as well, but looks like him and Sam are the only two who have managed the quad without international recognition (unless wiki entry out of date...)

Feroze Khushi's bat has failed a gauge test. Possible points deduction for Essex.

I believe Dean Elgar also had one taken off him the other day.

Given Durham were deducted points for Nic Maddinsons so hopefully they are consistent.

I struggle to believe brands aren't checking bats before they're sent out, surely?! Only thing I could put these issues down to is the player being too liberal with bat tape/toe binding which is pushing things over the limit, which is absolutely possible - wouldn't take much if the bat was already maxed out to start with.

@Neon Cricket - totally agree. Surely they must measure them before handing over to the player.

No chance of them taking on moisture and swelling slightly due to the moist conditions?

Who would believe that the conditions were bowler friendly during the first round of county matches by looking at these huge scores? Makes me wonder what the reason could be? Poor overall bowling quality? The Kookaburra ball? How much of a part would the pitch play in early April?
