ok perhaps not a modern profile, dont know the name for it, but one where the wood is behind the middle wand less of it in the shoulders

sorry, and yes, but my timing is constantly improving :) i hope anyway.........

but if i have a low middle and someone bowls a ball that i want to pull, surely the pull will come out of the top of the bat, and then i wont be middling it like i could be ?

So get a bat with a high middle!

yes but if i get a high middle then i can pull well, but the driving is affected which is a key area of the game which you need in the april wickets,

and colesy, im not don bradman so cant do that everytime, so have to play the % game

This is ludicrous. It's obvious what the forum's general opinion is on the matter, 2 gloves, 1 pads and 2 bats if you must.

believe me, driving is not affected with a high middle on any surface. I cope quite well. It all comes down to knowing the bat.

When companies say their bats have high middles they are middle up in the splice, they generally have long middles stretching down.

You would be surprised how many drives you think come low of the bat that are actually quite high

I can't play the pull or cut, so I don't play it, I have other shots that score me runs in those areas, like dabs or flicking it. You don't have to play every shot!

Mate, you've being fairly pedantic here. Not every single ball will come out the middle. Especially not if you're pulling, cutting, driving, etc. It's gonna be down to you to play the ball with the right timing, picking the length. Like you said, you're not Bradman, which means that you will make mistakes. It's what happens. 2 bats at most, 1 or 2 gloves, and a pair of pads. 1 lid, 1 thigh guard, 1 bag, 1 box. Simple. And Colesey is right. With most deliveries, you can play more than one shot to it, which includes the leave.

Again you would be surprised, very little effective shots come of the bottom 3 inches of the bat. That area of the bat is largely un-used apart from digging out yorkers

You say if the bat breaks through manufacturers fault you will get a refund - you have a point but if you had to send the bat off as proof and have another sent to you that process would probably take a week or two then by your logic  you will have to make do with a bat you cant use on that type of wicket.
Im fairly tall 6"2ish and my current match bat has a fairly high middle, i have no problem driving, in fact i prefer driving with a high middle as i can play the ball at the top of its bounce and drive balls i couldnt with my old bats. I also have no problem pulling with a higher middle- i just play a little squarer/later. Most of my old bats have low middles but i have had no real problems except my first 1-2 hours in the nets.
