This is a totally useless debate consisering it would mean little to Sachin whether he is the greatest ever, or greatest in toady's era......

..... the guy jsut loves and respects his game and that's kept his going.

(Just a thought though. Would Bradman or sobers or RP, Kallis etc. survive and repeatedly make their critics eat their words for 20 years??)
Yash, how is it at all useless? It's a discussion between us. it is unlikely that he'll ever see this, so I don't understand how it's useless. Also, I wouldn't say he's made them eat their words, as he was always tipped to be sensational, ever since he had that 664 run partnership as a schoolboy with Kambli...

Longevity and fitness are key issues, hunger to suceed is what drives Sachin on.
Quite remarkably he has kept his feet on the ground and stayed away from any scandalous actvities ;)

The little master is like a fine wine. . . gets better and better with age. that bat he used has been used to hit quite a few tons. i just love watching him bat. certainly is the best of his era. . . .no question about that.

Like so many have said on here Sachin is not the greatest of all time, that mantle has to go to the Don for so many reason ( quality of oppostion, uncovered pitches, traveling etc...) but Sachin's achievments are quiet remarkable....... From me the greatest sportsman (not just cricketer) is Sir Garfied Sobers.......brilliant batsman, spinner and swing bowler, also awsome in the slips!!!! not to mention a fine ambassador and gentleman!!!!

Sachin is the greatest batsman of the modern era.

Bradman is the greatest batsman of all time without doubt.

Warne the greatest bowler of all time.

Sobers is the greatest all rounder of all time with Botham and Kallis not far behind.

Agreed . . . .Botham did not really perform against the best of his time . . .ie the windies.
Kallis is really a batsman who can bowl,
Kapil, Imran and Hadlee were bowlers who could bat. i would put Imran ahead of beefy and the others of his time. for his captaincy and the way he got the best out of his players.

But Sobers. is the no.1

Anyone seen Javed Miandad's record??

Not sure I can agree with that - 267 test match wickets at 31 is a record most international bowlers would be happy with. Kallis is an extraordinary player and a phenominal all rounder (although he is certainly a bit more all round than he used to be - aren't we all..!)

in the mean time - 50 pics of the Master here - those obsessed by his bat have a load to look at! http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/current/gallery/485141.html

Rather than comparing the greats of the game, it's better to enjoy them whilst their still playing As once their gone, the game is a much poorer place.

Kumar Sangakkara has got to be considered a modern great based on his stats

If Bradman had of played as many test matches as Tendulkar based on stats he would of made 23544 test runs compared to Tendulkars 14509
