Title: Champions Trophy
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on September 22, 2009, 01:43:14 PM
Who do you think will win it?

Got to be patriotic and say England but for marketing purposes hoping Sri Lanka do well  ;D

Whose everyone else opting for?

Did you ask sangakkara to use your helmet or did he ask you to send him one?

same goes for other players??
Title: Re: Champions Trophy
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on September 22, 2009, 01:48:52 PM
He was interested in them when word got out due to improved safety and weight. Got one going out to him for keeping wicket in as he wanted more ventilation in that one.

Players tried them at various events and as its obviously their livelyhood at stake they have taken them on when asked if they could have one sent to them.

i take it they got them for free? so then it advertises them or did u make them pay lol  ;D

i think sri lanka will do well this year, good batting line-up, good pace bowling and 2 quality spinners. but australia will always be in with a chance

Going to need a good run chase by the SA's of around 300+ by the looks of it!
Title: Re: Champions Trophy
Post by: Talisman on September 22, 2009, 03:44:06 PM
I think England should have been withdrawn and replaced by a Forum XI, we might not win anything but the quality of the bats (and helmets) would put the rest to shame....
Title: Re: Champions Trophy
Post by: Apple on September 22, 2009, 03:52:39 PM
kit wise we would win with ease
Title: Re: Champions Trophy
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on September 25, 2009, 12:47:58 PM
Im going to go with the ploy that we played crap against the Aussies to lure the rest of the competition into a false sense of security!

7-2 things are looking up against sri Lanka....how long will it last? Place bets....NOW
Title: Re: Champions Trophy

Ok Aidy ill let u off with ur 109... Not sure on the gloves will see what i can find probably the premier model as im feeling generous.

Got another helmet sat here for him which has to go out for him to keep wicket in which has 12 vents rather than the 4 on his current one.

Although the take some breaking i can assure you! standing on one and jumping on it didnt do the job so ended up resulting to lump hammers in early testing out in the workshop when trying to find the right ply combination of carbon and kevlar  ::)

400 n.o and gayley duly noted ill add u in the mix :D

I guess if the next 2-3 bats men play well, then 180 is def on the board. Still a long way to go though. Tailenders can bat in a very peculiar way sometimes and make the best of bowling attack look funny.

So it's 180 for me
Title: Re: Champions Trophy
Post by: westie on September 25, 2009, 02:07:23 PM
i was about to say can i up mine to 300 , lol !
Title: Re: Champions Trophy
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on September 25, 2009, 02:10:24 PM
Westie ye of little faith..we have bowled some right crap to be fair but they would do well to reach 250 let alone 300 from here.

yvk ur in the mix but due to late entry some people may not feel it fair this late in the day if u win the gloves. ill let the others decide what they think
Title: Re: Champions Trophy
Post by: Changy on September 25, 2009, 02:14:29 PM
Generally speaking, I think that they'll probably get about 165... but I don't care about the gloves I just wanna see the outcome

Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on September 25, 2009, 02:21:09 PM
Yeah runs are starting to come a bit easier now for them with broad bowling sum rubbish its not suprising!

one more wicket here and SL can kiss 200 or 200+ goodbye.

England need to get a wicket in the next 5 overs

of those oringially in with our guestimates if they get over 200 cgayle will be the closest...i think the rest of us hoped we would continue as we started but as usual we lack the killer instinct to finish off a side and get through the wickets

i don't think SL will get 300. Maybe 230 if Eng fail to get these two guys out very soon.....

Anything over 230 and Eng are def out of the game.....

Title: Re: Champions Trophy
Post by: yvk3103 on September 25, 2009, 03:57:28 PM
see the "Sex Effect"!!!

You mention it and they start getting wickets......

I think Eng just gave it away in the middle overs to Kadamby and Matthews. They should have got their front line bowlers in to create extra pressure and get wickets. Instead they allowed these guys to settle in and score at a good rate....

Straussy - what was all that about calling Matthews back? He didn't deserve to be gift a chance..... you got luck this time mate as Matthew as out without scoring after that....

Had Staruss not called back Matthew SL would have been under more pressure.

I think its a real shame that there is so much god risih talent but instead of letting the Irish rise in the cricket world, england just nick their players. Look at Ed Joyce - One  match for England and now he is in the wilderness, playing for Middlesex and cant return to the Irish national team. Same for Dirk Nannes of Australia and many others
Title: Re: Champions Trophy

He can play for Ireland again but he has to wait 4 years to requalify, Same happened to Gavin Hamilton played one test now back playing for Scotland

Morkel hold the key for SA aswell as boucher with their big hittin!

As far as new zealand goes now that Ryder is out!

McCullum isnt the destructive force he used to be!

Guptill looks a class act but may get out cheaply

Taylor seems to have technical issues that im sur eengland will work on using against him!

Elliott doesnt look like an international player at all!

Vettori is his simple self but effective however can be an easy wicket!

Franklin is a good batsmen who make their line up a strong batting unit on paper but not all in the best of form!

So who knows it depends which new zealand turns up the top 5 ODI team (capable off! easily) or the ones that will roll over and die

yes a very class player if anything may have improved, just not as destructive as he used to be as in to change a game in NZ favour in a few overs, he seems to have matured and become a more "sensible" (not a good word) anyways im sure u know wot im gettin at that his games changed a lot!

Jeet, are you suggesting that the toss resulted in England's victory? We clearly outplayed Sri Lanka and South Africa. Totally different side to the one against Asutralia.

I blame the kit. Blue is much better than red!

Yeah no doubt the english press will be on the up now after writing us off as no hopes before the tournament began. I think Strauss was completly fair in refusing Smith a runner as greg stated unless you have got the injury during the game why should you be allowed a runner. His lack of fitness shouldnt allow him a runner from which they will benefit.

Will be interesting to see if we can carry our form forward now as firm underdogs for the tournament it has probably played into our hands with a "nothing to loose" attitude.

Title: Re: Champions Trophy

Ha Jeet this is in one tournament! Could it not be that the sides who happened to win the toss outplayed the other sides? If you were to present scientific evidence with only 4 samples you would be ridiculed! Just think about your posts!
Title: Re: Champions Trophy
Post by: Jeet on September 27, 2009, 10:04:07 PM
Well if there's only 6 matches in total to be played at the venue during the given event, I can't change the stats can I? I'm using what's available. I wouldn't say 323 vs 302 is one team totally out playing another.
Title: Re: Champions Trophy
Post by: Coach on September 27, 2009, 10:16:29 PM
Ha so why limit your sample to just this event? The pitches they are using haven't been relayed since last year so widen your sample range? In which case maybe England were that 21 runs better? You cant say that the toss had a massive effect when the pitch played well throughout and it was only a 21 run margin

What a fabulous victory for New Zealand. A disciplined bowling performance and a great partnership between Elliott and Vettori to guide them through.

Taufel played a big part.

OMG! All  Pakistanis really p!ssed off so are blaming the umpire. I was watching the match and none of the 20 or so lbws that Pakistan appealed for were not out. Most of the time the ball pitched outside the line or was going away. The only time the umpires were wrong was when Umar Akmal got given lbw when in fact it hit his bat. But even though that was the wrong decision, you have to consider how he was playing a sweep shot and when he made contact with the ball, the bat was pointing toward the umpires. A deflection onto the pads it was, but for the umpire the ball hit him straight onto the pads simply because of the position he was in with with relation to the direction the bat was pointing (slightly confusing i know).

Blame the Pakistani fielding. If Younis Khan hadn't dropped that regulation catch and got Elliot (who made the most runs) out, then Pakistan would be in tomorrows final, not New Zealand.

All umpires, no matter how good, only see it once and form one angle and need 1 second to decide the fate of the batsman. They don't see it through hawk eye and the side angle and in slow motion like we do.

Anyway, ask any Pakistani and they will say that Pakistan beating India was them winning the cup. And vice versa

Aussies to win? hoping for some resistance from NZ but think they will be outclassed in the end.

NZ 287 to be chased down

The best team won. All they have to do now is stop choking in the Test series in England and maybe Ricky can be here in 2013 to have a crack at winning the Ashes on English soil for the first time in 12 years....
