Adding further to the list, I have recently acquired this less than common specimen.
This is the
Stuart Surridge Contour, a bat that I wouldn't be surprised to be related to the the Turbo, bu tI'm not sure whether it is a predecessor or a descendant. Any enlightenment would be appreciated. This specimen says on the sticker "A lighter weight bat with heavyweight power from the unique curved back".
In this particular version, I suspect that the power all comes from the weight. When I picked it up I thought it was 2lb 13 or 14 oz. On the scales it comes in at a whopping 3lb. There isn't a lot of wood there for the weight, which is why i am inclined to believe that it is a predecessor to the Turbo.
As you can see in the pictures, it is effectively the opposite of the concaving we have now, with a curved back and no clear spine. I've no idea when it was designed, but I'm guessing early to mid-eighties. It states that it is a Supreme model, which I guess is probably a mid-range willow, and it has been heavily oiled... I think I remember the sports shop when I was at school having one, but I can't be sure, and that would be late eighties.
With the mallet, it doesn't seem to rebound all that specially, and wielding it, one wonders how you might get the ball off the square, without excellent timing, but I've found that with the Turbo as well.
