Big fan of Borthwick but more as a batsman i would say now, last year Will Smith was getting a bowl ahead of him some of the time and thats saying something!

If thats the best that England have, then they have big issues.

Tredwell is an international ODI spinner and Borthwick is a young up-and-commer.

It's only to back up Monty for two tests, they'll be good enough for that.

I bet every spin bowler with eyes on playing for England will be getting their kit out of the loft for an early net now.

I'm going to dig out the video camera too and youtube myself bowling at 1 stump to get Mr Flower's attention. I might show my collection of kit too so he knows I'm ready for an international call up  ;)

I actually wonder if Borthwick is in with a chance.  Panesar, Anderson and, if Broad is injured, Rankin makes for an awfully long tail and, with four seamers, they could afford t have an impact spinner on a wicket which usually rewards perserverance.

Completely agree.
Stokes and Root to offset the risk too.

Only a big issue if they have none! Give the spinners a chance, they're young, so need to get experience from somewhere! I don't know how any spinners from England bowl like (Other than Swann and Panesar) since I rarely get to watch County cricket, but a rough patch is always to be expected. :)

Borthwick isn't a bad shout at all. He's probably long term whereas Monty is now..

With his disciplinary issues Monty was lucky to get into the tour party 3 months ago, he's now apparently England's first choice spinner, how times change! Not saying he's going to retire any time soon but surely getting a youngster in to build for the future is the best option.

I recon pissing on a bouncer is a lesser offence than doing so on the oval.......

Tredwell is surely not someone for the long run..he is good at containing the batsmen so the limited overs version suits him.

Borthwick could be a good option, but from what I have seen he has been focusing more on becoming a better batsman and not really focused on his bowling.

tredwell's average of 35 in the cc does not excite me at all, i may be a bit baised as a lancs fan but if less than 6 months ago kerrigan was next in line just because of one match that didnt really have any meaning he should surely still be up there?

I think a Glammy Boy goes by the name of Andrew Salter, is a prospect for the future, especially with Croft mentoring him.

Watch this space on this kid.
