We (Ambleside 2nds) played at Sedgwick on Saturday, all out for 62 (I contributed 5) and Sedgwick 2nds  knocked it off without loss.  On Sunday, we had the return fixture against them at Ambleside.  We restricted them to 125-9 in their 45 overs and we then knocked them off for the loss of 6 wickets (I managed a steady 21 in a 50+ opening partnership this time around).  Very pleasing to turn things around against the same team that hammered us on Saturday...they spent most of the after match drinks trying to come up with excuses for why they'd lost, ranging from 'we weren't happy with our batting and didn't have any urgency in the field because of that' to 'they only had one batter' and 'if that six had dropped inside the boundary and been caught then we would have won.' Sometimes you should just accept when a team has played better than you and won a game on merit.

Another close game yesterday and another good win. We won the toss and bowled first; the opposition making 157-7. In reply; we chased and scored the winning runs on the penultimate ball; 159-7. I opened and had a reasonable knock before falling leg-before for 35. Second week running I felt I'd left a decent score out there which is pretty frustrating, but the result is what matters, so all good. Quite a few of their lads stayed behind for a beer or two as well which is always a nice touch.

Roll on next week and fingers crossed for a third win on the spin!

I had an absolute stinker on the weekend. I went down the club at 7pm on the Thursday and got the roller out whilst watching the football, eventually tucked the roller to bed at 10:30pm and sure enough I turned up on Saturday to an absolute road, playing against a team with an average attack at best.

Unfortunately, we only had nine players. Skipper lost the toss and we were stuck into the field. I chased leather for 38 overs before a ball looped up in the air. I'm no slouch, so I came haring in from the boundary and threw in a full length dive at top speed. Got a finger tip on it but landed on my left knee very hard and jarred it so badly it locked up. I couldn't move it so hobbled off to get an ice pack on it and eventually it started to loosen up, so I attempted to rejoin the field to help my now down to 8 team mates. I didn't last long as as soon as I pushed off it it locked up again, and was so bad I couldn't bat.

My teammates filled their boots on my lovingly prepared road only to fall short as they ran out of wickets in hand about 30 runs short.

I woke up on Sunday and it had locked up again so I mainly spent the good weather of Sunday trapped in Watford General A&E department. Luckily it doesn't look anything more than bruising so I should only spend 7-10 days out.

We lost yesterday, due to lack of batting in our team. We fielded, they posted 196. One opener got 136 not out, being dropped twice in the process fairly early on.

We only got up to 120 odd. I didn't help my getting a duck. Got a ball that bounced low, hit my pad and then stumps.

Only got to wait 6 more days to get into bat again...

Played two games this week one on Sunday and one yesterday.

Sunday's game was 40 overs, after 20 overs they were going at 6 an over, eventually we restricted them to 162. I didn't bowl but I took a brilliant catch supposedly, the guy hit it, and it was going over me as I was at long on, I had to run backwards, it was really high in the air and I thought I had lost it, kept going back, and jumped and dived and took it one handed. I knew if I attempted to take it with both hands I would have fluffed it, but the roar from the team and crowd made it feel special. The captain had said he's seen many amazing catches but that was the best. The batsman that got out came up to me at tea and asked if I had caught it, I said yes he replies with 'that was excellent, I'm not even pissed off that I got out to that'.

We went on to bat, with the run rate never in danger, but then had a massive collapse towards the end, 5 batsman out for 15 runs, 4 batsmen going out in one over, and I was the one that started the collapse with a duck. We were all out for 105 in 25 overs, catch was in vain. :P

Tuesday's game, got demoted to number 9 for batting. We posted a total of 190 in 20 overs, I didn't get to bat. We then bowled out the opposition for 62 with them at 12 for 4 at one point. I finally got to bowl once again but it was only an over and a half, took one wicket, but it was a hollow one since it was the last one, but it was their highest scoring batsman.

I seem to be played as a specialist fielder according to some mates, I have the most catches in the team, bat in the low middle order, and have only bowled twice in 7 games.

In  our LMS league, we took on the Sons of Southern Pitches, a decent team with some good hitters. Electing to bat first, we posted 169 off our twenty and after giving away a few too many wides and picking up wickets throughout their innings it came down to them requiring 21 off the final 5 balls with two wickets remaining (which is a possibility with the 12 off the last ball rule). Fortunately our death bowler took two consecutive wickets to give us the win and put him on a hat trick on the first ball of his next over.

Had a t20 game and scored my highest of the season with a knock of 25 not out retired after I opened partnerships of 60 and 35 got us off to a good start in posting 159 off our twenty, they never really got close after losing wickets throughout we won by 40 runs so good day all round,

Plus used the Dynodrive I brought off Wilkie and pulled a beauty which flew off the middle and bounced just inside the boundary but the sound and also the way they just stood looked waited looked again then went off jogging to fetch the ball,

Meh, it's just a quirk that keeps the game alive. We have won and lost games due to the 12 run rule, it's quite funny but not as much as the double wicket play!

even the wording "double wicket play" sounds american.

any other Americanisms to make it sound cool to youngsters ... do all the players have to put a # before their names in the scoreCARD and when they "strike out" do they have to leave "the arena"

Going to be playing my last games for the club I've been involved with for my whole life due to relocating to Devon for work commitments. Had it's ups and downs the last few years but will be weird leaving pretty much for good. Two good grounds to play at for my last two though. Got Standard on Saturday who play in Coventry always a decent deck. Then playing at Walsall on Sunday, always nice to play against a Birmingham Leauge team  (even if they don't put a strong team out) and a nice ground to finish off at.

Yes, except the field judge does all the game play statistics recording (scoring)

Personally, I love the LMS's, don't take them too serious but you get bat on ball during the week in a cricket style game thats over in two hours.  I feel like a colt who plays 10 times a week at the moment and is always in decent touch.  492 runs for the season now, not including LMS which would take me closer to 700!

Interesting game last night, we turned up at a game (an hour from our ground with a 6pm start) with 9 players for a league 2020 match, we had already qualified so didn't matter too much.  They had out their full first team, whereas we had 3xones, 2xtwos, 2xthrees and 2xfives players.

Somehow we kept them down to 167 with some decent bowling and fielding.  Then the first team vice captain (81*) and I (58) knocked off the majority of the runs.  We won the game with three balls to spare.

The amusing thing about LMS is that the majority of players in the London leagues are all people who are late 20s/early 30s and have played cricket throughout their lives, but have struggled at weekends with family and work commitments.

There are some slight anomalies of course, including the one that gives it its name (the last batsman remains in on their own), but it's a good way to get some cricket midweek and interestingly, most players I know have found it improves their bowling and batting!
