decent day today - having batted myself at 9/10 all season was forced to open (where i probably should be batting) hit a match winning 71. Also earlier took a catch and a stumping and a clean sheet of byes. Won 9 down with 4 balls to go, was a close game.

Another great win today.Had to go off 3* with the worst back pain I've ever had in my life after running a tight single.Spent 45 mins kneeling down trying to stretch it out.I ended up coming on for the last 3 balls and getting 10.I couldn't go out to field after tea asmall I could hardly move.Hope to god it's nothing too serious after losing over 7 months after surgery. I type this lying belly down on the floor it

Made my debut for Chobham 2s yesterday, didn't cover myself in glory slashing loosely to point for 5. Slightly redeemed myself in the field taking 2 catches. Great game coming back from 90-odd for 6 to be bowled out for 175 and hung on to win by 20-odd. Lovely ground, great bunch of guys and hoping i wont need to post "i'm free" again here for sometime. :)

Malcolm,

Glad you enjoyed your debut. I agree we do have a lovely ground and a batting paradise!

Past two weekends I have returned to playing Saturday cricket for our second team. Two games, two 'easy' victories. First game we were away and bowled them out for about 134 runs, one of our openers hit a ton and the other hit twenty odd, with a small contribution from our number three. Then yesterday we bowled the opposition out for 63, with one of our bowlers achieving 7 wickets for 11 runs. Our opening pair knocked them off in ten overs and we made it to the social in time to watch the first world cup kick off!

So far all I've done is kept wicket. But can't grumble when we win two games to put us back in the race for promotion   :)

Played yesterday, we bowled first and kept them to 140 off 45, we made tough work of chasing it down we were 50-5, two of our u15's game in and put on 50, one of them then got a harsh decision, i then came in and dispatched a quick 28 off 18, including 3 of the biggest sixes at the ground plus being the pfirst person to clear our 35ft safety net to protect the tennis courts! then played all round a straight one, leaving us only 7 to win. knocked it off with 12overs to spare!

2-18 off 4 and 0* for me today.

I still hate cricket though because we lost!

opened the batting for my sunday team today, on a flat as hell astro pitch and hit a solid 74, didn't feel like getting out until in was run out in a mix up with my partner!
bowled just about ok and took 2 wickets...
the game ended on a sad note for me though as i shelled at catch off the penultimate ball that would've won us the game, they went through for 2 and won off the last ball!
TRULY GUTTED

took 4-22 on Saturday so was pleased with that :D

Sounds like a good a game ?  Reasonable target to set off 49 overs, and they were collapsing so dug in.. That's the perfect game really. Just not quite good enough bowling wise to get them out.

Wasn't even like they tried, set out from the beginning for a draw, they have done the same every week so far this season. Their deck is flat so suits them, the only time they have lost is when they bat first.

Our league splits between 50 over and timed games so a lot of the points end up coming from 50 over games and a lot of draws in timed games, all relies on winning the toss and bowling first.

We would have done the same I suppose, just bitter that we were on the wrong end of it

Feel your pain on the frustrations but if you can't get ten wickets then new bowlers are needed. Certainly down this area teams rely on batsmen giving it away more than actual bowling skill which is crap. Timed games would be a dream.. To be able to bat properly..  Woo

Been a funny old season so far for me with the bat. Started off with the worst 17 runs I've ever scored, then found myself getting out very cheaply a number of times to balls keeping deceptively low. In an attempt to reverse my fortune I went for some coaching sessions but this didn't really help so after getting bowled yet again last Saturday (28th June) to another grubber, I made the decision that I would revert back to how I used to bat, virtually zero bat lift and block everything early on then slowly open up as the innings progressed.

Moving on to yesterday, my skipper asked me to open with him but neither team had a scorer and as no-one offered to score, I semi-volunteered to go down the order to perform the scoring duties. In around 30th over, I went in at 75-5 with skipper still there and after a slow start by myself, I gradually began to feel more comfortable and we put on an unbroken stand of 85 to which I contributed 31 not out (we finished on 160). Not a massive amount but given this more than doubles my entire total of runs for the season so far, I finally managed to enjoy tea (which was a bizarre assortment of Indian food).
