Ripped the stickers off and used white spirit/wire wool/credit card to get the scuff off. Put some more glue on the dowelled crack as a precaution. Gave it a good sanding with the orbital sander. Then sanded through the grades. Probably could of done a little more fine sanding but added salix bat wax to finish and buff. New grip, clear scuff and some stickers from on hand cricket. Job done.

Its a lovely traditional profile and picks up very well. Looking forward to netting with it.

Sounds pretty similar to my refurbs. How does the bat wax compare to linseed oil when it has been buffed? Any difference in appearance or shine?

The crack isn't a million miles away from the Puma that I fixed. How does it perform after the surgery?

I'm feeling inspired by this thread and am looking to repair a team mates bat. It's gone on the edge. I am thinking that I should carefully lift the wood and get some pva in there. Then clamp or tape it down. Does that sound right or should I do something different?

Don't try opening that up if you can get glue in there without doing so. Just my opinion but opening them up makes them worse, so why go backwards before going forwards if you can avoid it.
Fill with PVA glue (I prefer not to water it down unless I have to), tape it tightly and leave it overnight to dry then sand level.

Yeah i wouldnt try prying open the crack which might cause further damage, as WalkingWicket says just fill with PVA, maybe a few drops of water if you are struggling to fill the crack, and clamp it 12 hours i would normally.

I have now sanded and given the repair and blade a coat of oil. With another coat or two of oil and some edge tape hopefully the repair will hold for a season or two.

I've seen one through the toe like that when a crack had gone from the back halfway through.
In that case it was to stop the crack going right the way through the bat.

Not sure about how it'd help in this case though

my 'handiwork' the hole was drilled at an angle , between 1 and 2 o'clock... it was a complicated crack so this was a way of getting glue right into the centre

Latest project is this Gray Nics Nitro with the carbon handle. Performs solidly. I will be tackling this tomorrow.

Gave mine all a little bit of TLC on Friday as they had been in my kit bag since the CBF vs H4L game that was played in the rain!

Sadly didnt take any before and after pics as they weren't it too bad a shape but now back to their best having had a little rub down and a coat of oil plus a new grip each.
