Woodworking guides I have seen all recommend sanding with the grain. Will try sanding across the grain to see if that helps, those pesky willow strips are a PITA. Thanks for the tip Jake!

It is largely irrelevant (based on my relatively limited knowledge) when using an inflatable drum sander like i do, or when hand-sanding (not including the fine grits which may strip the willow up no matter how careful you are) but when using a DIY sander like Ryans, or a sheet sander like i used to, then going across definitely seemed to help.

Not a refurb as such but I've just finished playing with my SS Yuvi 20-20 (well, that's what it used to be!)

It went from this

Some very impressive bits of work here guys.

What are you using to give the bats their final buffing?

I use something similar to this @DACD 1987, fit it to your drill and bingo.

Did this refurb a couple of weeks ago. Salix wasp 2.11

This is how it turned out after a bit of rough sanding (120) with the orbital sander and then 180, 240,320 400 then 800 by hand. I finished it with lord Sheraton wood balsam

Chilled morning cheering on the Irish with couple of repairs. 2 bats require some glue on the face and the other is on a diet and reshaping.

I have worked on reducing and reshaping a bat that started out life at around 2'12 and felt very bottom heavy. I decided to create a duck bill profile, which has ended up very prominent to create a more manageable pick up. Considering this was my first attempt, i'm pretty happy with the result. The final weight with two grips is 2'10 so around 2 to 3 oz has been removed while still keeping a full profile.

Checking both edges for symmetry

Apart from the knot, it's not a bad looking bit of wood.

Latest bat in need of some TLC, the bat is a Bumble Bee which was run by a team mate. The bat is huge, I suspect it is a narrow width. I think the bat is Indian made, any clue who made it from the photos?

For yearly refurb..should I remove the scuff sheets from all my bats? Or I shouldn't have to worry about oiling the part covered by scuff sheet.
