Good luck to everyone today.  Once again I am captaining a team of toddlers and foetuses in a league.

Hopefully good news to report tonight!!!

Played my first game for my old club for nearly 30 years last weekend. Played for the 2's who are having a bad season and not won a game. Had opposition 100-3 after 30, but their only 2 quality batters go them to 205-4 off 45, with a ton for one of them. We batted steadily but slowly and were helped as they had a lack of depth in their bowling wasn't helped by one of their bowlers getting the yips. Think he bowled 10 wides in an over and had to come off. We needed 50 off last 8 when I came in at 6. Got 25 not out and hit 3 fours off their opener to get it so we needed 1 off the last over. I was at the non strikers end as we lost a wicket first ball, followed by 3 played and missed. 2 balls to go I told the batsman we were running next ball whatever. Thankfully scrambled through and got our first win of the season. Great result.

Gutted I'm not playing today to follow it up as wife's working and got 2 young kids to look after!  :(  Will just have to watch England win the Ashes instead  :D

We won the toss and batted first today, posting 258 all out.
I was the last man the go, making 8 at number 11, but I finally reached a personal milestone of hitting my first 2nd XI boundary, and got us maximum batting points!

We then bowled the other side out for 98 Orr 19.5 overs.
I took 4-20 and our left arm opening bowler took a 4-fer too. Decent day for us  :D

Didn't get selected for today's game so I spent the day down an inspection pit re-calibrating the brakes on a Class 37 locomotive for a heritiage railway.

1st XI lost, 2nd XI probably the same.

i was working so i couldn't play today. we were all out for 92 and then bowled them out for 75.

it pretty much guarantees us promotion in our first ever league season. next saturday is our last league game of the season so we will certainly be celebrating after

On holiday in Southern Brittany so missed our crucial game against the team 6 points above us in second. Desperate to find out the result. On the bright side the weather and food are excellent and the beer cold and cheap.

Didn't go well today, we were put in and got to 60 - 1, then collapsed to 134 all out including a hat trick for one of their bowlers. I went in number 9, hit a four then given out lbw by a team mate umpiring, my partner in the middle said it was a poor decision.

Didn't get to bowl till the game was almost over, managed to get several edges but nothing to a fielder, and a couple through the batsman bouncing over the stumps - just wasn't our day.

Again I hate cricket, how does someone go for 33 off an over when they need 44 off 4?!

Opened or been 3 in the 3rd's all season, hit a rough patch of form, and now found myself opening for the 4th's. Today, 6 runs before being yorked. My form is in absolute turmoil, and I've definitely lost my spot in the 3's. Gutting.

I'm finding batting terrible
Again today made only 5 haven't reached double figures on a Saturday in a month truly dreadful
Again today the opposition were using dukes balls compared to our gm ones and they move a mile, I followed the ball from middle to outside off and edged into my stumps terrible to I know.
In the nets on a Wednesday we use gm balls and they do nothing off the pitch come Saturday were are all guilty of edging behind or being bowled by not getting in line, out swing and Inswing.
However we did win today after posting only 144 from our overs.

Help needed to learn to bat against swing any ideas

Simple. Use Dukes balls in the nets. As a bowler I always used them in every match I could when I was captaining. Pretty much guaranteed a win.

Had a good game on Saturday and back to winning ways. Bowled out opposition for 124 partly thanks to great bowling+fielding but also a very strange LBW decision (it was their umpire) against clearly their best batsman when only the bowler appealed in a very half-hearted manner. We slumped to 17-4 then 39-5 but the our fortunes changed after this and didn't lose another wicket in overhauling their total.

After seeing my form evaporate over the past 6 weeks, I came good at last yesterday, making 70 and sharing in an opening stand of 165 on an absolute road, the best pitch I ever played a 3rd XI game on. It probably wasnt pretty and didn't feel in the best of nick but really pleased that I battled through.  My first 50 for a few seasons and my highest league score ever, in almost 3 decades.
Thought most of the pleasure was about to be taken away as we fielded awfully and looked like failing to defend 243, however in an incredible finish we managed to tie, last ball of the match ending in a fine catch at cover.
