you learn something new every day on the forum.

I always presumed TK worked at/was in charge of Newbery....

just presumed all the years!
Tim/Nick used to run Newbery, they sold the brand a while back and carried on manufacturing under a different banner. Newbery these days are 'just' a brand, albeit one with a great heritage and naturally close links to the Keeley brothers.

Splice Investments which bought Newbery, also own MKK, and are a consortium made up of a number of city boys. Believe they're something to do with Cenkos Securities, hence the bat named after them.

This is their machine.

That's a thing of beauty

Newbery do outsource to Tim/Nick's company. However they don't make any bats really these days totally by hand, they use CNC - their machine is an earlier version of GM's (which they purchased from Slazenger when Slazenger moved production away from Yorkshire)

Looks like its time to start the pressing vs profiling thread ;)

The new range of stickers are terrible. They should never have changed their classic design.

Quilted top hats been done for at least 8 years by Robinson's, what Kookaburra have done with their top hat looks interesting

Did BAS make these products for Newbery? Color scheme of the bat is an exact replica of BAS BOW 20-20.

The thing I've never really understood is that GM and Newbery make their bats in a very similar way (admittedly the Newbery machine is older, having originally made Slazenger bats) but both are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum in marketing them.

One is all about saying how they are handmade, whereas the other is keen to mention how high tech and DXM it is.

What I find Interesting about all this(and I've thought about it for a while). Is @ItsJustCricket and there current ethos on what bats they sell.

They sell newbery, who don't advertise they don't make there bats, and don't advertise there cnc made. Which is against there new business model. But still sell them.

They also have newbery make there platinum, but newbery don't make there bats, so ijc, get newbery, who get the Keeley brothers to cnc make there bats. And then ijc don't advertise this to there customers. So technically they shouldn't stock there own bats either.......

For any growing company there comes a threshold when they can't afford to continue handshape the bats and will need to use CNC to meet the market demands, else employ dozens of skilled batmakers. In a country like India hiring is still viable but not in UK.
No matter how talented a batmaker is, it will still take between 15 - 30 minutes to bring a cleft into a shape with traditional tools before sanding.
Now look at the amount of bats these companies are producing and retailers are stocking. It is highly improbable that they are hand crafted.
Whether it is M&H, Newberry or even Salix.

Wasn't it more about companies not saying where they were made and not that they were not hand made? Sorry if I have this wrong..,

Salix 100% hand shape all of there bats!! AJK would never even consider cnc shaping or outsourcing his production.
