It won't fail because the ecb can't afford it to fail. All it'll do is speed up the decline of the other completions. Face facts, the ecb couldn't care less about the game, it's all about selling it to India tv market and cashing in to pay themselves more.

It's business not sport now sadly, plus it's what th public want to see and play so alls good

That's the proposal that's been floating around for the last few months or so.

The one day tournament would continue running in the background. I do wonder whether the recent North v South series was a little experiment which could be expanded (North, South, Midlands?) to have a couple of weeks long pre-season one day tournament for the best one day players in the country who missed the one day tournament during the summer.

Edit : Just re-read this and not sure if you mean that's that you suggested in your previous post. Sorry if it is and I'm going down the wrong route!

I think a point is being missed though a little bit - this is a NEW competition NOT a replacement of the Blast.

Am i the only one with a sneaking feeling that the blast will still outsell the new competition? All for free to air coverage and a bit of a rework, but am I (No Swearing Please) going to watch the Cardiff Dragons, and I'm guessing a lot of current fans will feel the same with whoever their nearest team is. The way things are going at the moment I almost hope it fails and fans everywhere stay loyal to their counties. Could be wrong, hope I'm wrong, but this is sounding more and more crap.

From reading/listening to to a few things on this i think the ECB's goal is to emulate the end result of the Big Bash (new audience, familys, % of people attending their first game) not an exact replica of it. On Tuffers and Vaughan they played part of the interview with the guy from the ECB and he said that FTA coverage was aspirational, extending reach was one of their core goals but there needed to be a balance between reach and commercials. I.e. if sky/BT/any other broadcaster pushes hard enough and pays enough i suspect the ECB would waive FTA coverage, which to me would be pointless

I actually like this and I will remain positive.

I suspect sky or BT will get the rights with some kind of guarantee that a number of games are shown on their free channels. Or have all the games on the pay channels but BBC/ITV/4/5 also air the game at the same time.

Presumably this is not a competition aimed at current fans but for new fans. I support Sydney Thunder in the big bash, I try to watch all their games. I liked the Big Bash and picked a team. I didn't need to have any affiliation with Sydney. As long as they don't make the mistake of giving a team a specific geographical name (London, Leeds, Manchester etc) then surely fans will just pick a team that plays near them or a team with their favourite players. I'm from Sheffield so I don't want to

If you look at the surge in popularity in American sports I think if you make a good competition you will attract fans who might not even consider attending a match but will watch a lot of games. I'm sure there are plenty of kids playing football at the moment who don't go to games on a Saturday.

As for the traditional fans I don't think they are going to stop watching cricket because a new competition is being played. I can only see a net gain in fans if they do a halfway decent job.

Looking at the way this has been proposed int he papers, I have the feeling it might be similar to the Big Bash - surprisingly low quality of cricket, but popular because it wears the Emperors New clothes.  The idea that some teams will be based around a single county (Lancashite) or two (Yorkshire and Wor Durham) and others on three could cause some confusion.

In terms of quality, I can see the White Rose side being tasty if they do allow Test players to play:

Overseas Batsman/All Rounder (Glenn Maxwell has history with Yorkshire)

There won't be any affiliations with the players current county, all the players will be picked through a draft by the proposal.
