I always pack 2 pairs of gloves despite;
A) Rarely batting long enough to require a swap
B) The weather even less rarely getting warm enough to get THAT sweaty
C) Knowing the type of bloke that calls for fresh gloves in club cricket is likely to be ridiculed by 21 other players, the umpires & the scorer

You forgot to mention...

D ) That you're a complete gear tart and love it as much as the game itself ;)

I ended the 2015 season with 10 bats, of which I only ever used one.  Thinking it was a good idea I gave 9 of them away.  Half way through the winter nets I broke my beloved Blueroom, I then borrowed my lads H4L, which I split the following net.  In a panic I purchase the cheapest grade of L&W (in the Easter Sale).  The bat turned up in April, It was then a frantic few weeks knocking the bat in before the start of the season, luck for me I did not start playing till June.  Not being able to afford another I played the whole of the season with one bat, but each week I worried that I might break it.  Since the end of the 2016 season, I sold a few of my paintings, and now I have acquired another 3 bats, JUST IN CASE!!!!

Oh yes... 2 bats too, and never swapped mid match... I need help

So the match bag can have 3/4 bats in it (spare in the car if someone needs to borrow a bat)

As for gloves at least three pairs in there! Again a spare set for the cretin team mate that has lost theirs.
One for the pre game net and two pairs for the game! always plan to bat long! and they are great to throw when you get a low score, much less damage than a bat.
I have no shame in asking for the spare gloves either, maybe just my sweaty hands.

Asking for the spare stick after hitting the last ball of the over for six did cause bemusement though...
Dug out a yorker the fourth ball of the over and put a small crack in the toe, didnt want to make it worse. Held back and left the 5th but couldn't manage it for the final ball and sent it over long on and went straight towards to cover and my team mate with the spare.

Going back a couple of seasons I was a GM FKW, and had 3 Six6s and kept 2 in my bag.
Playing in an intra club T20 competition at the end of the season, I damaged the one I'd been using all season, so called for my spare. I'd just finished knocking in number 3 and it still looked brand new. On of my teammates waited until the end of the over to bring it out, and on their way dropped it so it bounced down 3 concrete steps before landing on the pitch.

To say I wasn't amused was an understatement. The only good thing to come of it was they were too busy taking the piss out of him to remember if asked for a change of bat...

I tend to keep two on me, although one is used for both nets and games. The other is just a spare, frankly it's too new looking for me to consider tarnishing it with cherries from rubbish GMCL league balls, grade 3 willow or not :D

In the two wet weather games I played last year, I took my wet weather bat and still didn't use it! My poor GM Aura is still mud stained from the first of those games.

I've only been tempted to call for my spare once, during a long and eventually low scoring spell at the crease. Naturally it's the bat's fault when you're not scoring as we all tend to think, turns out it actually was the bat's fault that time. I don't know how but it had gone from decent to plank over winter, could hardly get anything off the square with it.

Last year, I kept 6 in my wheelie kitbag. I used only three (kahuna 1000, SS Maximus and XTC platinum version) in games but I used the others before game for catching practice and Knockinng them. I had 6 last year around this time but ever since I started to follow CBF, I lost count.

Need min 2 for sure..just gives you peace of mind that if 1st bat breaks, you have something ready right away. my 2nd bat was my best bat that i used for more than 1 year when i had only 2 bats then. after it started showing signs of damage, i have been trying to get another which feels the same, and in 2 years, ended with several bats none of which feel like the 2nd bat i want..

Yeah but if you ask those who are proper batters on the forum(a loose term I grant you) with 10 bats 20 bats 30 bats ! How many of them would change their bat presuming it ain't broke when they are scoring runs I wonder what the answer would be.

Not many I would venture, and that makes the other bats redundant!!

I have used the same bat in matches for over 3 seasons. :D That bat never sees the net action unless it is with the soft Bola Jr (orange) ball. If god forbid something happens to that bat, I have plenty in reserve to take its place. Obviously, none of them are as cooked as my main match bat.

I don't "need" extra bats...I just want them

.....and there is the underlying philosophy of every member of this forum.

The only reason I've got more than one or two bats is that I find it hard to throw kit away. I've got an 18 year old bat that I still use every week in the nets. (Not playing cricket for 10 years helped the longevity, as does my inability to make contact with the ball)

Forum members would be shocked if they ever saw the state of it  :D

we are not easily shocked on here, show us Mac  :)

and....without being a hypocrite because I like a decent polished bat like everyone else, kudos for having an 18 year old bat.

Big Mac...big respect.

Sad to say, but right now I have only the one B3 bat.

Remedy...Hopefully next week another new B3 (actually 5th B3 purchased) arrives.  Then not long after that I'm hoping to see my first Blank Bat.Three is a good number, but I only use one for matches and carry a second just in case.

If those were to break well half the team has bats I used to own.

I take two bats with me. Last season I was batting like a total drain and eventually, rather reluctantly, I changed to the reserve bat and got a few runs, stuck with it and got a few more. I know it's all in the mind, but still...

I take 2, anymore is too much weight to be lugging around but I'm such a fussy bugger about my handle set up that I basically can't bat with anyone else's bat if one should break, cracked two in a over a few years ago when on 50 odd and ground to a halt for about 5 overs trying to get used to a normal handle.

I do tend to just have one match/net's bat and the second is either new but ready or a previous match bat that's fallen out of favour or on it's last legs.

Lads, first of all, great thread! Enjoyable read!

Currently have 2 match bats, exactly the same.

Have 8-10 others, just don't get on with them, the only remedy is to sell the remaining ones and get custom copies of my match bats.

The only problem, best I can do for a copy (best grade) is £225, this may al change when I pick up me low density H4L on Saturday!
