We had a good win on Saturday. We batted first and score 240-4 in our 40 overs. I made 36 at around a run-a-ball out of a partnership of 120 with the skipper, before being caught in the last over trying to get the slog on.

The oppo then went with the old-fashioned tactic of trying to build a platform and keep wickets in hand. Obviously, this didn't work as it never, ever does. They batted patiently and reached 80-3 after 20 overs, meaning they needed to shift gears from 4 an over to 8 an over from then on - basically impossible. They finished on 188-8.

Interestingly, the combination of a 3 week old pitch that had baked in the sun with rain on the morning of the game meant the pitch was very, very slow and grippy. The oppo bowled 3 spinners, but they bowled too slowly and were easily playable off the back foot. One of our seamers switched to bowling cutters and that was probably the most effective bowling of the day.

Had an interesting game. We scored 208/10 in 38.3 overs (40 over game). The opposition was cruising at 150/2 in 27 overs. Then the 120 odd run partnership ended and they lost their last 5 wickets for no runs to be all out for 191.

Following this seasons promotion and  Saturdays results with 4 games  left the club will finish 4th or 5th already to many points behind the top 2 to get promoted and to many points ahead of the bottom 2 to get relegated.
Not bad for a club with just 7 members and rarely put 11 players on the pitch.

How many not outs do I need for a decent average?

Played a touring side down from Peterborough yesterday. I lost the toss and we had to field first. With the threat of rain they asked to reduce the fixture to 30 overs a side.

They got off to a flyer, with 33 off the first 2 overs. Most of our bowlers took some tap until I bought our 15 and 12 year olds on! Our 15 year old went for a respectable 23 off 4 overs, but the star of the day was our 12 year old. He bowled 4 overs, 1 maiden 2-12. Definitely one to watch for the future. I chopped in with 2-28 off 6 overs, as the opposition posted 204-6.

In reply we were never really in it. We were 8-2 off 4 overs and let the game slip away a bit. Only 5 players made double figures as we were 132 all out with 2 balls of the innings left. I did make 16* to help boost my average a bit.

Tonight was a 16 over league game. We batted first and posted 118-5, myself making 24* including a 4 off the final ball of our innings.
They chased it 5 down off the last ball, hitting a 4 with the scores level. We'll have to see how other results tonight went as that loss could have ended our hopes of winning the league :(

The umpire gave me out caught behind when I didn't hit it for the third time this year, however 2 weeks ago I nicked one and didn't walk so you cannot complain can you?

That'll be Karma for you ;)

@NT50 I don't think they did mate.
They had a fairly decent touring party so he may have been there though

No idea why I said I’d play tonight.

Anyway I left Belgium at 6 am this morning(5am UK time). Drove for 13hrs, with the tunnel to break up the drive in the middle.

Fetched my kit on the way through.

Got to game 10minites before the start.....

And hit the first ball of the game straight up in the air to mid on. What a day!!

So same team on the same ground....... with the same result tonight. 2games two goldens.

First ball and long off caught it, may have been long on? They kinda collided and one of them held on!!

We was 105 of our 12, @Simmy with 65

They knocked em off two down with 3 left.,.. disapoinTing night.

Stormin' Normin!!!

Turned the ball a mile both ways but you could run down the wicket, miss it, turn round and run back and beat the ball to the keeper!

I don’t think he’s ever turned a ball in his life! Bowls slow seam, but sticks it on the stumps and waits for you to spoon it in the air!

Everyone in the league hates facing him, as he knows exactly how to set a field to his moon balls, and eventually you make a mistake! I’ve always fared ok against him as I sweep him and hit him straight, but everytime we play him he picks up 3/4 wickets. Nightmare bowler!

Had an interesting evening.
- First time ever had to retire hurt. (Don't worry, nothing broken)
- Opposition opening batsman played through the first over of their reply without wearing pads. Laughably no-one else noticed until one of his team-mates shouted from the boundary at the start of the second over. You know what happened next, he was out the first ball after putting some on.
- One particular delivery, a right-handed batsman switched to play a left-handed forward defensive to a ball that was down the leg side.
- Best of all, the opposition provided a fish and chip supper after the game.
