Chap who's recently joined my club brought along his new bat to nets last night... had a slog, lent it to his mate who had a slog, the toe breaks... I wandered over and it's a Kookaburra Pro grade he's spent £375 on, seam marks all over it. Have you knocked it in or oiled it or anything like that, I ask. 'No, should I have done? What does knocking it in actually do? Hopefully they'll replace it, I only got it this week.' I bit my tongue, who'd be a cricket retailer!

Chris, if only you knew someone who played for Mildenhall  :)  The 1XI overseas player is Nick Maiolo, who played for Mistley last season.

Dean will be playing our 2XI so he will be coming up against a team mainly of younger players with 1XI ambitions. The best player in the side is a youngish Australian called Steve Graham but he is not a pro. He just happened to take a liking to the daughter of one of our senior players  ;)

Three knocks on tour, 6, 2 and 5. I'm usually a slow starter in both the season and innings terms, but gonna take a while to recover my season average from that sort of a start.

After a cancelled game due to an unsafe pitch on sat some really good eggs who did get a game in gave up their place in our Newley formed Sunday side and I was a lucky swopsy. Our Sunday captain always has done a good match report so thought I would put it up here:it felt great to close a game out after the last pair had taken them from 25/8 to 51 all out but the last 2 batted the majority of the overs!

Crewe Sunday 1s v Wistaston

Me  - 'we've got a team of old fat blokes, wannabees and kids today
Their Captain responded apologetically  - 'oh we have a really strong team so....'

they won the toss and we were put into bat.

Myself and George ground out a decent start at about 3 an over and comfortably saw off the quickies.

the pie chuckers came on and I was soon out to a bowler who had clearly developed a taste for his own pies  - he went onto to take 4 wickets which you suspect doesn't happen too often.

Lewis Bacon and Sam Carney both looked set when they each holed out cheaply off of what looked like no balls - I wasn't too clear about this so checked the scorebook.................

George continued to plug away and had to watch a succession of partners come and go before eventually getting caught at mid off for 64 - a good solid innings.

Matt King came in and gave a good cameo performance before being spitefully run out by Conor Howard

The tail didn't wag and we were all out in the final over for 123  - of note was Dave Parkinsons lunge at a wide one which he should never have attempted but in so doing scooped a dolly to gully, I shall have to have a chat to Parkinson about that one and then there was Hamish running down the wicket at the opening bowler and got clean bowled  - interesting strategy.

Tea was taken and a big thanks to Flick and Amanda Bishop for a genuine 10/10 tea  - not even the distraction of a changing room lockout could spoil it - Mrs Drog will now be getting a thrashing tonight for letting me down last week.

Conor Howard & Olly Wilcockson opened the bowling  - I bet that's not been said before but actually if anyone doubted the validity of Sunday Cricket back at the Vaga then they should have been there today to watch these lads rip through the batting and but for some early season rustiness which afforded Wistaston a dozen or so extras,  would have restricted the away team to less than 40 runs.

Some tight fielding and a decent catch by Ben Carter complimented the bowling standards being set.

Lew and Dave Parkinson were very economical without getting the breakthrough we needed  - up steps Sam Carney and snaffled the last two stubborn resisters and we secured our 1st win of the season.

25pts  - well deserved

Benji Jarvis did an excellent scoring job - thankyou

Next game away at Betchton on 13th May

Up the Vaga

Not playing this week been to see hospital consultant today  who removed  the abscess   last week which had formed under the scar left from when the helmet grill cut my nose open due to the wound not yet  completely closed up don't want to risk another infection.
Should be okay for next week.
Also  have an appointment  with consultant  in early June  to discuss his offer of plastic surgery over the scar  to restore my good looks.

Can't bowl at the moment, shoulder is completely shot, and for some reason my club's selection committee have failed to recognise my burgeoning batting talent. So I find myself surplus to requirements at the start of the season  :o

I may have to find a standard that allows for free-flowing innings by beefy middle-order sloggers against gentle, non-hostile bowling   :D

just been sent these photos of where we are playing on Saturday - it's an away game against a side that have just been promoted to Div 1 they play at a Council owned ground, so they had to cut and roll and mark etc... today! after it chucked it down yesterday. I hope we win the toss!

@Red Ink Cricket - this is at Willen - we are playing Westcroft.
