Getting a bit fed up to be honest. 200 mile round trip for my match yesterday, away to Bognor Regis, only got 4 overs and batted ten.

Won toss and bowled for some reason on a flat deck with a rapid outfield, oppo 207/7 from their 45. I got brought on after 32 overs when they'd started to go for it. Part time keeper missed two simple takes down the leg side that went for 5 wides each, short straight boundaries were taken advantage of as I got 1/39 from 4. However much spin I put on the ball it doesn't seem to be gripping at the moment, but our overseas felt id bowled really well and the figures didn't show it. Im going to film myself in the nets to send to @edynamo and will put a YouTube link so everyone can give opinions.

Top order collapsed against their overseas, who was rapid but straight up and down. I got 1, run down to third man first ball from said quick, before trying to play myself in vs off spin and instead of trying to smash a full toss tried to place it, only to get the outside half of the bat straight to short cover. 72 all out was absolutely awful in 23 overs.

Jake, our overseas, reckons I should be playing minor counties, but im not being given a chance with bat or ball at present. In three completed league matches I've bowled 13 overs. I have been expensive, but that's partly getting used to a new ground and slope, partly lack of rhythm from so few overs. I know I have to earn a place higher up the batting order, but if I don't get given a chance I cant make the case!

First decent score of the season for me today after my 20 year hiatus, 45* (3 and 5* other scores) in a losing draw. Oppo posted 181-5 in their 40 overs, we scraped 159-8 (only had 10 men), batted the last 8 overs with our last man so pretty happy.
Probably should have had my fifty if I had quicker partners between the wickets.....I think the oldies hate me with my jittery quick running (nearly had to bring out the defibrillator for a couple of them).
Still not been given a chance to bowl (I was predominantly a bowler back in the day), but I’m enjoying it....the wife less so, she was frothing at the mouth when I got back at gone 8:30pm!

@mohawks94 if you're not bowling much and/or coming on towards end of innings then have a word with skip and if no joy then probably best to drop down to the 2s and get some overs, and hopefully wickets too, under your belt. Will probably be more beneficial long run than 4 or 5 overs at a time when they're trying to score big runs at the end of the innings.

Won today. Our team selection had more than a hint of train wreck about it:-

Ramadan
Uni guys not back and some crappy availability from nearly all our batsman
Batter who got a ton last week not available
Bank Holiday
Young pace bowler decided to OD on alcohol the night before and his mum cried off for him 20 mins before the meet

So I had the 3rd XI opening bowler in my 2s opening, with a guy who hadn't bowled in a game for years at the other. Both doing Ramadan. My change bowler was doing Ramadan. My other change bowler was 16 and got battered the week before. What could go wrong?

Well apart from me having to bowl a load of overs and a bit of man management on the bowling changes, surprisingly little. 199-6 the oppo got and we chased it down with an over to spare and 7 wickets in hand. @golders played a classy knock to score 63 opening and my 16 year old recorded his maiden 50 in adult cricket to end up 72*. The great thing about the 107 partnership they put on is it was good old fashioned batting. They put away bad balls and rotated the strike on the good balls. Patience and technique meant they pretty much shut the oppo out of the game for 25 overs. In this IPL era it's nice to see batsman not smacking the ball over the top all the time while failing to rotate the strike, or getting desperate because a couple of quiet overs have passed. A lot of common sense has gone out of the game and it's a shame. Probably played the right oppo at the right time, Bicester and North Oxford 2s aren't the strongest but it's our first win this season so I'll take it. On a personal note, back in the swing of things 15-1-31-3 and 13-2-35-3 in the last 2 weeks, even bowled one guy with a real turner.

Nice to play a sensible oppo at a nice ground on a good deck. With the sun out it seemed like a good day all round.

Finally got some runs on Saturday 78*. It's been a long time since I hit a decent score. Lost my father in January (he always came down to the ground to watch me play) so felt pretty emotional after the innings. He would have enjoyed it  :)

We have already won 3 games this season...that's 1 more than the whole of last year. After being on the receiving end of some monumental beatings last season it was nice to dish one out to someone.

Their 2s must have changed a lot since I used to play them in div 3/4, where they were a bunch of muppets (and that's putting it incredibly politely!!!). I think I read they kicked out one family, who admittedly tended to start the agro yet were all decent enough guys off the field - or they were to me, so guessing that brought about a big change within the club?

Glad you had a nice say to play there, we played on a windy overcast day and it was one of the coldest days of cricket in my life where their ground is so open.

Had decent opportunity to bat well that blown away shortly. We lost 2 wickets in 1st over. I went on number 5 in 15th over. Chiped one to mid off and out.
Wicket had big wet patch where ball was sticking and coming slow. So that's my excuse that ball went in air rather than over bowlers head where I intended.

They won easily as wicket dried second inning.

Congrats on the knock, cant beat the feeling of winning a few games. Winning isn't the be all and end all of playing but it sure helps when you have some success!

Used to play for Wallingford before I moved out of the area. Looks like they folded last year?

My game tonight has been rained off. This is becoming such a frustrating start to a season. Almost June and only played twice due to the weather or opposition not getting a team out!  :(

Played my first game for my new club this Saturday for Bournemouth CC against Ferndown Wayfarers. Skipper won the toss and decided to bowl on a hot sunny day. I was asked if I was comfortable bowling spin with the new ball. I was a little apprehensive as it was my first game and bowling spin with the new ball can go either ways but decided to give it a go. Started off with a full toss down the leg side which was dispatched to the boundary(great first impression!) but got settled down and bowled decently(I think) with figures of 9-1-32-2 getting both the opening batsmen out. They ended up getting 250+ and we lost the match by 20 odd runs.

There were a lot of Crossbat bats on display at the club. Looks like everyone at Ferndown has one :)! Lovely stickers with minimalist design and good middles.
