The way our league works is that for 5 weeks at the start of the season and 4 weeks at the end we play 45/45 win lose, and play everyone in 100 over win/lose/draw in between. We play attacking cricket, after the Chi game we agreed never to play so negatively as a team as we didn't enjoy it. Times we could have shut up shop for a while we have counter attacked and it won us a game. I'd always rather take a risk that die wondering.

It all depends on the brand of cricket you as a team want to play and perhaps more importantly how the league points system is set up, if you are playing win/lose/draw.

If your league is set up to reward a win a lot more than a draw with bonus points or without etc... then people are always more likely to go for it etc..

Personally i see the merits in both types of cricket, and the best way to do is to split the season playing both types - like a lot of the ECB Premier Leagues are doing now. That way it is a test of all skills throughout the whole season.

Imo, timed games only make sense at the Prem level where you have players of a certain calibre who can influence the games with their skill. At lower levels, timed games are  boring blockathons. Timed games can only work in lower divisions if there is an age limit in place.

So after 3 games our 2nd XI captain resigned/advised to resign....but without anyone to take the reigns.

I was asked/manipulated into taking the reigns.

Game 1 Smashed them. Game 2/3/4/5 got smashed. Called for my Marine mate to play last week. 10.1 overs 5 Maidens 22 runs for 6 wickets.

Anyway, i actually hate playing now i am captain. I remember why i gave it up several years ago.

I am not not playing cricket this weekend as i couldn't think of anything worse to do atm.

Anyone else been in this mood?

I am into my 9th season captaining the same side and those times when you would rather do anything other than playing cricket seem to be part and parcel of the job.  It has certainly effected both my own form and my enjoyment at certain points but at the end of each season I have felt that I have had a positive effect on the side continue to do it.

I think it depends on the captains duties if it's  running things on the field on match day it can be rewarding or  get to you
But  increasingly captains  are expected to  do more orgainse  there team phone after players on Friday and Saturday morning sort out teas collect match  fees  phone  or scan in results etc.

Captaining on the field is the fun and easy part .. the reason why the off field stuff is there’s is because you can’t just do the part virtually anyone can do.. you need to do the dirty stuff to earn the easy and fun stuff

We had another shocker.
Bexhill 180/9d, we were all out for 120ish. Personally got 1/37 from 7, wicket was caught at slip. Took two catches, one running round at square leg to a skied pull, the other a short ball nailed just above my right shoulder at mid wicket which stuck one handed. If you've seen the clip that's been doing the rounds on fb of a catch this last week, along those lines. Then when batting decided not to tale any risks early on, padded up to one that turned into me and hit me on the knee roll of my back leg in front of middle and off for another 3 ball duck.

Currently really frustrated that my form with the ball is sketchy, with the bat non existent, but in the field I'm catching flies in the ring. I've got the most catches in the 1s this season apparently, which is a bit of a surprise.

Very short game for us where we almost pulled off the impossible.

We had the weakest team of the season in a 3rd vs 4th game (3 get promotion, we are now 3rd by 2 points, but the oppo have a game in hand)
I finally got a chance to open the batting, and me and my partner put on 34 for the first wicket, before i tried to slap one over cover, got caught in 2 minds and punched it straight in the air for 7. We then folded from 40-2 to 74 all out inside 25 overs. I didn't think the pitch was bad when i was batting, but as i was umpiring i saw how dodgy it was (huge amount of rain last night and they don't have covers so it was a bit of a mess) On a side note - one of their bowlers got perhaps the least deserves 5-for i've ever seen! One opener was bowling a top line and length going wicketless, with the other one spraying it all over and somehow getting 5! I would feel guilty saying this, but as he decided to try and intimidate our 13 year-old in the field, i'm not too upset!

Our two opening bowlers then struggled early on, as they raced to 30-1 pretty quickly. But then one opener found his line and length, and didn't put a foot wrong after that. We had them 40-6 but they creeped over the line through a series of inside edges, 7 wickets down. A top effort in the field and from our opening bowlers as we nearly pulled off the impossible! It was weird to leave a game at 4PM but still be happy despite losing!

Another game tomorrow at a rock solid wicket and the fastest outfield in the league. Hopefully im in the runs

One of the craziest games I’ve ever been involved in today.

The oppo turned up with 8 and told us they had 3 on the way. To our amazement they then made the decision to bowl on a batting paradise with a fairly short boundary one side.

The decision looked justified as we limped along to 187-5 off 34. I came out to the middle and What happened in the next 16 overs was absolute carnage. Together we put in 148 in the next 12 overs which pushed our score up to 335-6-46. I was bowled when I thought a century was almost a certainty (their heads had gone by this point) for 79. (Must say thank you to @Blank Bats once again at this point! The stick i have got from him is just an absolute stunner). The guy i had joined at the crease got caught 2 overs later for 78 and the score was 361-7-48.

We proceeded to hit a further 46 off the last 2 overs to post 407.......

In the reply the oppo were never really in the hunt, with 2 full length diving catches being taken and half their team having had enough. They limped to 100 all out. I took 2-4 off my one over the 4 being a drop 🙈

Crazy game!

Another good win yesterday to make it 3 on the bounce and close the gap on the leaders as they lost.

Won the toss and put the oppo in on the greenest wicket I have seen all season! With the over night rain as well I thought it was going to be a very interesting batting day! However it turned out to be one of those wickets that looks awful but actually plays not to bad at all!

We bowled really badly at the start and they were 80-1 off the 1st 6. But brought it back in the middle overs and the oppo finished 199-7 off there 40.

I then got 53, amazingly off only 33 balls, our scorer said he had to count it 3 times to make sure  :D . We then had good partnerships to chase it easily 3 down with 6 overs left.

A good team performance and with the leaders losing means we are still in the hunt for the title.

Our second win of the season yesterday. Oppo won the toss and decided to bat first sensible choice seeing as though they only had 9. They managed 178-7 with extras second top scoring with 40. There number 3 got 50 but middled it to the keeper on 35 but didn’t walk and their umpire didn’t give it. Our chase set out with our opener being triggered by their umpire with a ball going massively down leg. Our other opener played all around a straight one. I mistimed a ball to cover but our number 3 and 5 got some decent runs before we knocked them off 6 down in the 38th over. A decent game which apart from the two horrendous decisions was enjoyable
