Anyway rant over we lost and at the moment that�s the end of Sunday league cricket for me and maybe our club as we are Ll just fed up of it

On saturdays We have played 3 12 year olds most of the season and had no choice if we wanted to get anywhere near 11 players on the pitch all 3 of them who are bowlers got wickets but the chirping they got when batting was not nice.

Mixed weekend team wise, average weekend personally

Hammered on Saturday means we are now 2nd not top with the other two in the top 3 still to play

I opened the batting and struggled to 14 out int he 19th ish over (3rd too scorer) we were bowled out for 110 in the 39th ish

They knocked it off two down but there number three Nicked off to first slip for single figures early on and claimed bump ball (how is that even possible!) took the wind out of our sails after an early wicket

Sunday was a tad better, we hit 278 off our 40 with our number 4 and 6 putting on 140 after we were 30-4 off 10! They hit 89 and 94!

I got 9 batting at 7 before chipping to cover chasing runs getting out with 5 overs left

We restricted them to 220 odd

Played at stoneleigh abbey, fantastic setting great wicket!

Mixed feelings about Sat.
We were put into Bat against a bowling attack that we all subsequently said was one of the better ones we faced in the league but being blunt they didn�t take their chances (apart from a young lad holding onto a skyer whilst getting sent flying by an adult running into him)... great catch and lucky to not be hurt.
We put 312 onthe board which for us is simply a monstrous total. It included an opener getting a ton and 3 half centuries including a nice 61 for myself (first half century for this club and one of only a handful in my cricketing life). We could have declared but we knew they had a player who 3 years ago was playing at a very high standard and although had only played 2 games this season (Both as part of this team so no issues with respect to dropping standards for games etc) had hit 2 centuries, we also got to 38/39 overs with 300 fast approaching and 2 batsman in the middle racing towards their 50�s equally so maybe i could have declared earlier but at the standard we play i just felt it was more important to hit both a team milestone of 300 and to let 2 great club guys have their chance to get 50... which they both did carrying their bat... really enjoyed it tbh.

The 2nd innings was as we expected and too be honest was a great advert for why win loose cricket should be part of the thinking in our league (from our perspective). They actually made 236 but as expected after some early wickets we were subjected to 4 balls of pat back or 4/6 (to be fair he did play his shots - he was a class bat) and then 1/2 balls at the guy at the other end. We managed to get them 8 down, we had a sniff of winning it when we eventually created a chance from the main guy with 2/3 overs to go but the catch went down - hard to not think what if but equally i always expect more to go down than stick at our level so not too disappointed... He ended on 140+ no and in fairness did the job for his team and get them a loosing draw, we reckon he faced in excess of 70% of all deliveries.. and in the last 2 overs was knocking it to the boundary for an easy single and just shouting no... understandable but hard to take really.

Ok we ultimately were not good enough to get him out, but he is far better than this standard, and we were by far the better side, ok as a team who did have some younger players (although are not what i would class a full on development side) they got some points from the game but i�m Not really sure how draw cricket has helped anyone stay motivated to play.. especially when it comes down to one player making it happen... its the 2nd time this has happened to us this year and its definitly demotivating for us as a team to be so much better than the other team but not really get the result due to the exceptional relative ability of a single individual.

Anyway - a good result for me as i finally broke out of the 30�s/40�s that I have been getting this year and made the half century and really good for a couple of my mates to get a really good knock in and get theirs... plus a 300 up... not too many of them in recent years for the club.

I had a great game Sat. First home game i've played all season and had a good day in the field. Didn't take any catches but stopped anything getting to the boundary down fine leg/third man which I was pleased with (although it's pretty tiring in the heat!).

Batting wise I managed to improve my high score! Ended up 7no after 30-odd balls and batting to finish. I came in at 169/8 with 15 overs remaining chasing 223 to win. My average being less than 1, my job was to just not get out whilst he smacked the ball around a bit with his monster Newberry bat.

I managed to hit my first boundary too, smacking one through the covers for 4 which I was very pleased with, if not a little surprised at myself.

With 1 over to go we needed 23 to win and, knowing we weren't going to win from this position, focused on getting the 2 bonus points for getting 90% of their score (without getting bowled out).

First ball last over my partner got out caught at gully and in comes batsman #11; oppo brought fielders all around the bat but he managed to get an inside edge on it past fine leg which was good enough for me to make it to the other end and for him to get back up to non-strikers to for the single and the bonus points.

I had every intention of batting out the remaining 3 balls but when I knocked one into the offside the excitable #11 shouted and was already halfway down when I set off so I had to go, luckily I made it and he blocked the final 2.

Shame we didn't win as we really needed it (second bottom with bottom 3 relegated) but the 2 points will help and keep us within a win of drawing level with 4th bottom so there's still light visible.

My average is now 8 for the season.

Had a wonderful game this weekend.

It was an important must win game on Saturday with the team just above relegation zone. Skipper won the toss thankfully on a hot day and chose to bat. It was a start-stop innings with the opposition getting regular wickets just when we were looking to establish a partnership. We ended up getting 221, which is always a decent score in a 45 over game but probably 20 short of what we should have really got. I did not get to bat after being dropped down to no.11

..not very happy about it. Not happy about it at all. Sadly instead of going up the batting order, I have ended up slipping further down. You play a few big shots in your first few innings for the club and you get branded as a 'hitter'

. This after I was batting at no.3 for my ex-club near the end of the season last yr where I got a few decent scores makes it even worse. <rant over>. Back to the match, opposition came out hard in response with their opener dispatching anything short of a length. To make matters worse, one of our opening bowlers did some damage to his foot and was off the field in his 4th over. The skipper brought on spin to pull things back. Our off spinner started decently but the boundaries kept coming. I was introduced into the attack and had a nightmare start. Bowled one which didnt land on the pitch in the first over and went for 3 boundaries in the next over. I was starting to get worried after giving 18 runs in 2 overs. I put that down to me experimenting with left arm around through (my run up is usually left arm around straight). I thought about changing my run up but decided to back myself and it paid off. I was able to find my radar in the next over and bowled well after that. I got 3 off their top 4 and ended up with figures of 9-0-39-3. Our VC was brought on at the other end and we bowled together in tandem drying up the runs and getting the wickets. The opposition still managed to keep themselves in the hunt needing 6 an over in the last 5 overs with 2 wickets in hand. With us running out of bowlers, the skipper brought on our young U-14 batting all rounder to get us home. He got a wicket in his first over and bowled really well. It all came down to the opposition needing 10 runs off the last over with the youngster bowling. He kept his calm and bowled the batsman to win us the game!

In the first 15 overs, it looked like the opposition would run away with this and end the game early. Then a few good overs and wickets got us back in the game. A few boundaries in the death overs got them within reach of the victory before we delivered the knock out punch. It was wonderful to see the youngster stay so calm and composed in such a tense situation and get us over the line.

Cracking game on Saturday. Got called up to the 1sts Friday night as our star batsman was I'll after eating a dodgy hotdog at the test match! Only my second appearance for them.

Opposition batted first and posted 290-6. Their no.3 got a good ton, but didn't help that I dropped him on about 50 and palmed it over the boundary for 6 as well. They looked like they were going to struggle to get 250, but one guy came in and hit arapid 50 off very few balls.

We started well with our opener repeatedly planting their spinner who opened the bowling into the field. We raced along, but were probably too aggressive and kept on giving wickets away. Our first 4 wickets were all caught trying to smash it. I came in at 140-4 and then ran my partner out. Poor call by me and to make matters worse it was our bowler I'd dropped the catch off earlier! I was determined to make up for it and helped to keep the scoreboard ticking at a good rate. We needed 90 from 12 overs after our big hitter got out. My new partner then set about their bowlers and I attacked as much as possible or just get off strike. He reached his 50 and was then bowled next ball with 4 required off 7 balls. Our opening bowler then came in and smashed his first ball for 4. A great win to chase it down and only our 3rd win of the season. I finished on 59 not out and very happy to make telling contribution as well as making up for my mistakes!

Yes mate. That�s the guy. And yes he�s got a slingy action but plays in the WEPL with no recorded issues.

I didn't even know you could throw it for '6' as a bowler. It's six wides presumably..
