I still fail to see how England are going to fare any better? They have just as many question marks. Who's to say 200 won't be enough?

Both teams have good bowling lineups, I would say Australia probably have more depth in the reserves and the huge advantage of a world class spinner. Whereas England have the advantage of Ben Stokes as an all-round option.

Batting wise it's anyone's guess, but Australia on paper have a more experienced top order whereas englands middle order is stronger, but from what I've seen Australias tail is seemingly more competent than englands. Honestly I could go back and forth all day, but the reality is that it's unlikely to be as simple as one team "hammering" another.
England’s wheelhouse is 4-9 - Root, Buttler, Stokes, Bairstow, Ali and Woakes/Curran. The top three might be rubbish but if they can blunt the Aussie quick, the rest can express themselves

To anyone watching it - are England playing with names & numbers on their shirts, or is that being saved for the Ashes?

Edit - the BBC live text has just answered for me

Quote

BBC Sport at Lord's

If you're wondering where the names and numbers on the backs of shirts are, they won't be introduced until the Ashes, which is the first series in the ICC Test Championship.

The problem when you select a white ball slogger for tests.

Could've been out the over before too

ok i know how fickle we are and before i start following the score im gnna say this...

lets back the lads, there are debutantes who are gonna be nervous and those playing for places..

if Roy fails that doesn't mean he isn't good enough..

if stone goes wicket-less same thing

and lets face it Murtagh at lords is no easy task even for country batsmen!

COME ON ENGLAND

When Roy fails it will go to prove a bloke who hardly plays first class cricket (and when he does it's as a middle order batsman) isn't the answer in a search for a Test opener...

although i think your correct.. I'd have picked Sibley personally, that still doesn't mean Roy isn't good enough.

I think he should be at 5 if anywhere but we're that clogged there.

We still need to back him rather than just criticise all the time..

he certainly didn't throw his wicket away to day, Murtagh got him out at least

36-2 Denly plays all around a straight one. Maiden test wicket for the rather impressive Adair

This is all very English!

good bowling from Ireland though!

Mo at 6 looks even more risky at 3 down early

I have no idea how Rory Burns has been successful with that technique. Watching him makes my eyes bleed

It's not just the quicks to worry about though, Nathan Lyon is as important to that lineup as any of the quicks, arguably more-so.

Looks like a few members of that wheelhouse will get a good look today..

Go Ireland  ;)

The standard of umpiring is really pathetic these days. Root was as plumb as you’ll ever see and the umpire didn’t give it. The ball was hitting half way up middle. Maybe umpires should be axed and all decisions are done by DRS
