Hang on @jonny77  - what's that sneaky little shoulderless number in the corner there?  Talk to me about it - what is it?

That was actually from a part made i shaped, but then noticed their was a crack in the shoulder and couldn't sell it. So i removed the shoulders and made it into this with the intention of it being used on the beach, in the park etc and as a bit of a conversation piece in the workshop (the younger customers often haven't seen bats like this!)

As I'd already shaped it, it's now very light so perfect for the above. Always happy to make anything up like this though, it's enjoyable to do out if the ordinary.

Thanks both, appreciate it.

I'm trying not to obsess about 'specs' mate but as you can see both are a good size for the weight. The black one just squeezes under the gauge and has approx 36/37mm edge (these are rounded tho and not flat/square, the face has a 4/5mm camber too)

Red one isn't far off but has a little concaving but not much, the black one is very full.

As always, will try to select the right cleft top get the biggest bat at the scale weight, but not every bat can be a gauge buster. Then again, nor should it be imo! 😁

They look really nice, as ever. The shape of the black-stickered one especially caught my eye.

Which made me think - do you mind me asking how you think you settled on the different bat shapes that you make? Has it been through trial and error and what feels good to you? Or has it been more through seeing other shapes and using those as inspiration in the first instance? I only ask as I'm still obsessed by bat shapes, and what effect small differences can have to the feel and performance of a bat.

Thanks mate. A bit of everything to be honest. I think you'll always make bats you want to make, but while trying to appeal to the masses at the same time. Previous favourite bats I've used, seen or just a sharpie i think will appeal will all influence it i suppose. But at the end if the day, a bat to me has to feel good.

The red JS170 one is my prefered shape, just like the look/shape of it and a lower middle feels good to me personally. I like making it as getting the balance right on lower middle bats its enjoyable.

The black one I'm still refining. I like to try and leave some wood higher up on the spine, as I like the look but also feel it improves balance and durability.

However i think we're seeing more and more bats where the splice area really thin, as people push for 40mm edge/67mm spine at 2lbs 8oz etc. Which for me is a shame, but people are doing it to give people what they're asking for i suppose. The same with face narrowing too. All of which to me is detrimental to feel, durability etc

Yes, yes, yes @jonny77 - these are both very sexual (genuinely sexy shapes at a genuinely sexy proportions), however, what we all want to know is - "is the shoulderless one a full adult SH length"?

Thanks for taking the time to answer. If you ever get custom orders for weird and wonderful shapes, and it's ok to share them here, then I'd love to see what they're like!

Just a few bats recently made for a few forum members, others and some to go into stock. Sent a few out recently, to Oz, USA, Germany amongst other places and obviously throughout the UK. So been a busy time alongside buying new bits of kit and figuring out operating a spindle moulder! Put the actual stock bats onto the website, along with pictures and specs etc, which has worked well and enables people further away to get more of idea of whether the bat is to their liking I suppose.

First up is a sb/lh set up based on a B3. The original was big but 2lbs 13oz, so the customer asked for as close as but a good few oz lighter. Ended up a tad smaller but only 2lbs 9.5oz, with minimal concaving and big shoulders/toe. Feels lovely!

Second up was requested in my JS170 profile, but with a sb/lh again and as full a profile as possible. Customer wasn't as bothered about edge size etc, but not too thin on the shoulders. Turned out to be a good size at 2lbs 10oz and is a bit of me grain wise, I've seen worse looking Grade 1s

This one was one i shaped up on Thursday for stock, posted pics on Instagram and it was snapped up before it was finished

Big bat, weighs 2lbs 13oz but feels great in the hands and is a stunner too!

Finally a few stock bats made up, trying to keep them as full as possible.

Top one has surprisingly been in stock for a little while, possibly due to the weight being 2lbs 11.5oz, but it's big, a stunner and pings really nicely. Has now gone to a retailer.

Next 2 are stock LS190 shapes, which will now actually be the LS200 moving forward. Moving the spine peak a little higher on all stock profiles every so slightly. Mid middle, good size and both around 2lbs 10oz i think from memory.

The bottom one is the JS170 profile, lovely bat at only 2lbs 7oz. Very light obviously but still a great size.
