Played a Friendly T20 this evening and was so good to get back playing cricket was a friendly against a side we have in our County T20 comp which starts on Wednesday evening. All the protocols were followed and apart from the obvious no changing rooms and food it went really smoothly. Just disappointing that after a great game played in a tough but friendly manner couldn’t shake hands at the end.

We batted first and agreed to retire batters on 35 to get as many people a game as possible. I went in after 5 balls and after netting poorly the last couple of weeks and batting like a drain in out intra club game last weekend everything just clicked this evening and I made 38* retired from 22 balls. And we finished 167/5 with everyone bat No11 getting a bat.

We won with the Oppo finishing on 151-7 with everyone bar myself and keeper for the evening having a bowl and took a high skied catch which I can’t remember the last time I didn’t have gloves on and was a bit squeaky bum time. Followed by a lovely beer and socially distanced chat.

Competitive cricket in T20 and Mini local league starts next week and can’t wait. Absence certainly makes the heart grow fonder

Long day in the dirt for us. We lost the game in the first ten overs realistically. We dropped an opener on 30 who got 113 in quick time before being bbqd by his team mate. They got 298/4 off 40 - good deck but not a 300 deck. Personally 0/37 from five, three great overs going for 8 combined, two others where my line slipped too straight and I went for 29 in those two combined.

Batting the openers went OK, despite the skipper not walking for a clear nick behind pulling and not being given out. I was at 8 but suddenly got dropped to 9, which was weird but I rolled with it. Numbers 3-8 scored 9 between them, whilst I tried to give us some respectability in the final result and got 38 off 20. Opposition were keen on the @Neon Cricket bat, rating the fact I was smashing them about whilst using a fluorescent green bat! We ended 153ao vs their 298/4. Big reality check for us, but I feel happy that I was able to contribute with the bat.

So glad to be back playing. Had a slightly frustrating weekend. Good league win Saturday and got 42. Felt in good touch, but gave my wicket away when should have gone on. Then today scored 35, but completely out of touch and couldn't time anything. Hard to believe how good I felt yesterday compared to today.

My Saturday could've been better...

1 stumping and 1 not given... standard

Then chasing 166 off 30 overs I went in with us needing 20 off 3 overs and received an absolute Jaffa that flicked the top of off stump first ball - thanks for coming!

We lost the game by 9 runs

Played my first game of the season, not done a great deal of prep unless you consider keeping Britain's Craft beer industry alive preparation, 40 over game, they got 204 for 2 off 40, we kept is quite tight bowling and I caught a decent diving catch much to the delight of the crowd who were giving me pelters for a terrible throw 2 balls earlier.
Our batting got off to a slow start, they had 5 county U16's playing for them who all bowled great lines, they got our 2 openers out cheaply so it was my turn, for some reason I chose to sweep their leg spinner first ball which is very unlike me, but it paid off, I went on to get 57* off 56 balls, got us over the line to get the batting point but we lost the game. Really enjoyed it though, 1st 50 since returning to cricket after a 15 year absence.

I got a first baller, we got the opposition out for 178 then fell 5 short chasing. Frustrating when we were 155/3!!

They are a league above us and up until the season before last were a Prem side, makes it worse

50 retired in the 1st game of the season Saturday before last.

81 this Saturday it should have been a 100 but I'm old, fat and out of shape. I should have been out first ball of the game so nice to have a bit of luck.

Lovely to be back playing and enjoying the banter  :)

Yesterday we came up against a guy that hadn't played cricket for 16 years. In his third over, he had a wicket maiden. In his fourth over, a two wicket maiden. He ended up with 5-12.

Last year we beat them twice and we'd turned up with a pretty strong side. We tried but were all out for 80 chasing 180.

The guys name was Kansan Axaya and said he'd played club cricket in India. We later heard he was involved in the Indian youth team setup. Anybody know him?

Played my first game for a year today. Finally.
I didn't get to play last year due to moving house.

Anyway we had a very strong bowling attack and rolled the oppo for 43...
Still we knocked them off before the rain came, with a flurry of boundaries and a 6 to finish.
Nice. The R1 has been christened.

Played our first mini league game today.

Felt really good an a bit of a dodgy track and had a brain fade hit one straight to cover but thought it hand beat him for him to pick up and knock down the stumps must have been 6ft short of my crease. Think that may be the first time Iv ever been run out in league cricket.
Anyway we made 175 off 39.3 overs from a 40 over innings.

Only got 12 overs in before heavens opened but took one of the best catches of my life keeping with a full
Length dive and one handed grab off our quick opener really was a special catch so made up for my idiot batting.

Ok to next week

First league match of the season and ended up losing to a 12 year old + 13 year old. 12 year old scored exactly half of the opposition's 132 (66 for anyone struggling with the maths) and then his 13 year old mate picked up 5 wickets as we stumbled 96-7 in reply.

I picked up with 3 wickets but then was made to look a complete idiot with the bat by the aforementioned 13 year old who could turn the ball both ways. However I did actually end up not out and in double figures which I suppose isn't too bad considering I hadn't picked up a bat since the first week of March. It would have been even better had I managed to hit the ball off the square.

Saved by the rain. Our top order failed again, three caught in the cordon driving on a pitch that clearly wasn't there for the big drive, and another falling over a straight ball. We were 75ao, but never got on after tea. I got 11, a couple of drives through extra off their spinner before being early on a slog sweep and getting caught at long on. I was batting with our 16yo opening bowler so had to try for some respectability.

I had been dropped to the 2s for this week - to strengthen the batting and get overs in the legs. This is despite second top scoring last week, now two weeks running. Feels like I am going to be the scapegoat for the top order failing again when the coach is back available.

Maybe look at it a different way and just be glad you're out there playing with all that's going/gone on...
