Turned out for the same team as I did last Saturday but we were so desperate for players this week that a player's wife was persuaded to put on some whites (she actually fielded really well !!!). We lost by nearly 190 runs but I picked up a wicket for not too many then made a rather classy 0 not out to keep my batting average in tact. Match played in a good spirit and despite the disparity in scores, I would still much rather play in one-sided matches like these than being stuck indoors.

Awful day all round yesterday. We won the toss and batted against a side normally 2 divisions above us. An early collapse on an up and down deck saw us 5 down for not many at drinks(I contributed a massive 5). The 2 batsman in managed to claw us to a respectable 189-5 off our 40.

In the field we just weren't at the races. We bowled poorly, fielded, poorly and I kept even worse. Losing by 9 wickets.

This game's horrible when you let it get in your head

Decent side Chris. Bowled us out for 36 the season they last played us with their opening bowler (whose name escapes me right now) taking 8 for very little.  Couple of excellent bats too. Tough team to face so it sounds like you did a decent job of holding your own against them.

We started our mini league season with a good 6-wicket win, chasing down 215 in 32 overs. I played the ‘anchor’ role with 54 before being bowled around my legs reverse sweeping! Don’t know if Liam SCCC still posts on here but he made a very nice 60-odd for the opposition.

Sounds a bit like us, played a team 3 divisions higher. We fielded first and they racked up 270 all out off 45. We were over the moon to get them all out and if our catching was better we could have restricted them to sub 200, must have put down their opener 4 times who went on to get a ton.
Their opening bowlers were very tight so there was never a chance of keeping up with the RRR. In the end we got 170-7. Didn't disgrace ourselves and, maybe on another day, we could have run them very close. 1 wicket for plenty with the ball and 30* with the bat. Encouraging.

We stuck up 352-4 in 40 overs, wasn't enjoyable or competitive. I used it as a glorified net session

Sounds like our game at the weekend, played a team in the div above us (they got relegated from the top div last year we got promoted so a sizable gap in reality) they racked up 305-8 off 40, we dropped there opener 3 times he went on to get 159 (112), i put him down twice stood up to a seamer once on 15 ish and once in the 70s (im very part time keeper and it was my 4th game ever doing it)

we then got to 180-8 off 40

really good experience and shows how far we need to progress to get to that level and its still just nice to be playing cricket again

on a saturday we're won one lost one and one rained off

Sunday lost 2 out of 2 but its been good fun,

personally im having a shocking season averaging 3.33333333 with the bat and wicketless from 11 overs with the ball

I have now played 2 games of our 1's mini-league (plus an intra-club game) for my new club (Wivenhoe CC).

On Saturday in truth we weren't at the races and although for a brief spell when we had the oppo 60-4 (and then dropped a chance at slip) we really were always behind after posting 183, which for me was 50 short of par.

I opened and got 18 and am still feeling really scratchy technique wise, but considering how this year has gone it doesn't surprise me. But I am keeping well and took a nice catch standing up to our opening bowler.

I must mention (as I don't think he will) that @Canners smashed 92 for the 2's whilst injured and too be honest he probably shouldn't have been playing!

The fact I can’t walk today suggests I shouldn’t have been playing 🙈, I just find it hard to turn down cheap runs in the 2’s

@JTtaylor145  Liam brine was the opening bowler,   Decent pace and swings the ball in to the right handed and as you say a handy bat.
Olly Jackson was a class batter to watch, was going like a train until we got him by a bit of luck but i would say the cleanest hitter of a ball iv seen in club cricket for many a while everything just hit the middle.
Also was using (sponsored i think) by Solitaire. A brand i had forgotten about and never mentioned on here but still seems to be run by Roger and very old traditional shapes but my good did the two use used ( opening bowler smashed the toe of his first one to pieces) sound superb

A lot of two counties guys about here by the sound of it! I have just moved back into the area. Live 5 mins from a club so have rocked up there. Had no gear so couldn't have a bat in nets and there are no nets this week. Hopefully can get a game before the season finishes for 2s. Great to hear guys are getting plenty of cricket, another great weekend of weather forecast too.

Lost again on Saturday but quite an eventful match. Took 2-24 off my 10 overs but could have been much better under different circumstances. Opposition ended up with 160 off their 40 overs and we limped to around 100-9 in reply. However I am inching my batting average higher with a somewhat unconvincing 6 not out. I was actually clean bowled by an absolute peach of a delivery only to be reprieved as the umpire rather belatedly called no-ball. Indeed I briefly felt slightly embarrassed staying out there given how comprehensively I was dismissed but not for too long.
