Got a DNB today and we managed to take top spot in the group, so a perfect day for the club really, the minnows have performed unreal so far, chased down 210, won by six wickets not much more you could ask for really

Played another team in our local group that was 2 divisions above us. Lost the toss and no surprise sent into field on a scorcher.
Our young quick who is bowling like a demon so far this year with the new ball picked up a wicket first ball of the game to dismiss a very good bat, did him for pace and had him fending off short.

Picked up another couple inside the first 5 overs but them went a bit quite wicket wise and they upped the run rate. Track was a raid and outfield was rapid. Came into bowl which I don’t normally do much of these days and rolled back the years to bowl 9/2/28/1 so quite happy with that.

Into the last 8 overs and the wheels came off, we leaked 107 runs in the last 8 overs to give them 248 from 40 there no5 making 124*.  A tough score but possible just needed to start well.
Well that went wrong. Lost opener 2Nd ball and I went 4th ball both for 0 and was probably the worst non shot, hang the bat out nonsense Iv ever player.
Good partnership then between No1 and No4 with them both getting 50’s but just lost regular wickets after overs 20 when run rate needed to be upped and we fell short but about 50odd

Been in both games against these stronger sides but just not controlling key periods is costing us.

Played on the worst deck I have for a long time today. Glad if the protection from @Ayrtek Cricket hybrid as a ball I went to play a forward defensive to kicked up and took my forearm then my ribs. The Hybrid took the brunt.

Oppo got 198/7, having been 60/3 off 20. I'd bowled five by the 20 over mark, 1 for about 15 and hadn't gone for a boundary. Then in my last 8 balls I went for three fours and a six due to misfields and a couple of poor balls. Ended with 1/35 which I was fairly happy with, wicket being their number 3, who really fancied himself as a gun, plumb in front.

Batting, we weren't great to put it mildly. Missing three of our top order, we lost regular wickets whilst not putting on any runs as the pitch started to misbehave badly. We were 60/4 at 20 and in with a shout if we carried on like they had, but we were then 115ao in the 29th. I top scored with 31* batting 8. After being hit whilst on 1 I predicted the next ball would be short so pulled it out the park and that got me going.

Both umpires were horrified by the pitch, opposition were saying it wasn't usually as bad as it was. We need to take a mindset that we're in a relegation scrap into the rest of the season now, and show some fight for the next few games.

Also looks like I've broken a finger on my bowling hand, so having the ball kicking off a length at it wasn't a pleasant experience.

Another Saturday, another game where I'm bowling the final over of the game with 10 to defend, another win.

We started well with the bat but had a lower order collapse, coming in at 9 I scored a 4 ball duck after slightly twinging my hammy reaching out to negate a spinner first ball. We somehow ended up on 184 all out. In response they were always in and around the required rate but we took regular wickets and managed to keep their number 4 off strike enough that even thought he batted through, they didn't quite get there.

Game played in good spirits again although there was one small incident. Final over of the game with their number 4 on strike and their number 10, a bloke in his 60's, says his hammy has gone and asks for a runner. We allow it but then a kid who looks 17 starts padding up to be his runner which I kick up a bit of a stink about and say it needs to be like for like. They had 3 blokes in the shed over the age of 40 so I said that I don't mind which of those 3 come out but you can't send a teenager out to be a runner for a bloke 3 times his age.

Am I in the wrong here or would you agree that they were taking the piss trying to send out a teenager to be a runner so they could run 2's to the men on the boundary and keep their good bat on strike?

If they are that desperate to win at all costs just smile and let them. If this behaviour is the only way they can win then it sadly shows more about them than anything.

Another 6 wicket win yesterday. They collapsed from 118-3 to 131ao. I scored a sluggish 40 before losing my middle pole 10 runs out.

A fiery encounter yesterday with some shocking umpiring from both sides. Due to the covid rejig we dont have league umpires for the first time in years and it certainly makes you appreciate them more!

After acting the peacemaker whilst batting I received some unwarranted abuse myself from a young county legspinner. Proceeded to take him for 28 from his next 2 overs whilst giving him ball by ball feedback on his action. He couldnt come back for his second spell as his 'fingers were cold'. These young lads must learn to back up their bulls**t! Ended up winning by 2 wickets with a few key players out so fairly pleased.

Took the young lad aside at the end and made amends and gave him some more constructive advice for the future about concentrating on his bowling not the handbags. Nice lad actually just dragged down by his so called senior players.

Young lad who got the runs is a seriously talented kid; very classy keeper to!
His older brother is one of the best keepers I’ve played with

Tbf we’ve had the opposite .. first ever ‘league’ games without board umpires and it’s soooo much better... ganes aren’t being ruined with dodgy lbw’s all the time and there is far less verbals (none in three weeks) and bugger all appealing (I think they had 3 and we had 2) .. players only appeal when it’s out rather than anytime it hits a pad etc..

Much more enjoyable without umpires

Yea he was a typical left hander with very good hand eye and looks like lazy feet but was very good at what he did, loves himself but so do we all. Would have been different if we hadn’t put him down on about 10.
Didn’t recognise who was keeping but surly wouldn’t be having the gloves in proper league cricket.

How’s your season going @tommo256

We must be used to a different standard of league umpire, ours are generally very good. Yours dont sound fit for purpose!
