wonder how long the Ton deal is for? I would expect it is only until the big bash or the start of the next England internationals, bad time for him to get caught out by grays when there little or no demand for cricket gear in the UK so nobody will sponsor him

I reckon this will be a long term move from TON..Moeen was the only player they sponsored in the England team. with his involvement in ODIs and tests becoming a doubt, I think Bairstow will be a very good addition and will definitely propel the sale on TON bats in the UK.

There's definitely a perception, at least from my anecdotal experience, that Ton bats are designed for and used by Asian players in the UK. Given that, the Bairstow deal could be a pretty savvy way to make inroads into the wider UK cricket bat market.

Bairstow has today lost his test contract which is no great surprise as his future appears to be one day cricket only.

I think the TON sponsorship could well be a good thing for the Company. There's no doubt Asian brands have the potential to sell more here if more England players use them.

You suspect GN are glad to see the back of him and a new deal could be lucrative so it looks like a win win allround.

I thought they might have held back on some of the Ton branding now that it being used in association with Masuri.

Bairstow will be trying his socks off to get his Test place back.

Relearning the forward defence would be the place to start. Hes 3rd choice at best for me now and with a few other keepers showing potential in the championship I think Bairstows Tests career is finished.

his technique is so suited to Odi cricket, staying leg side and freeing his arms. He's not even the 3rd best keeper so has no chance of getting back in the the side unless Foakes and Buttler both get injured and Oli Pope cant fill in short term.

Just waiting for the standard YJB tantrum now, acts like a child every time he doesn't get his way

I’ve been told from a strong source that Gray Nics have renegotiated their player contracts, post COVID, to be based around payment per appearance instead of a set fee.
Bairstow is the only player who has refused.

If that s true and GN were still prepared to sponsor after clearly using another brands bat(not saying others don't do that but it shouldn't be blatant) then it says a lot about Grays and nothing we didn't know about him.
There seems to be a running theme of entitlement thru Bairstow not sure why that would be.

All speculation of course just an opinion.

Foakes must be in second place now as a keeper batsman for wherever we go in the winter. Sponsored by Gray Nics of course  :)

Not sure it says anything about Bairstow other than that the deal he was offered by GN didn't suit him.

Could be any number of reasons relating to his finances, personal situation, etc. For example, a deal based on appearances presumably could pay nothing if a player is injured long term. His situation might dictate that was an unacceptable level of risk.

We simply don't know so I wouldn't be drawing any conclusions without evidence.

Your absolutely right and there will be no evidence, just an opinion.

However you can form an opinion based on what you see and hear and I'm sticking to it.

You're entitled to your opinion but I'm not sure that turning down an appearance-based sponsorship deal is great justification to claim that Bairstow is entitled, etc.

There's been quite a lot of discussion on JB on this forum in the last year, so it's not just based on one thing.

The guy is a very good short form cricketer, no doubt about that.

that would be a tough deal for many players to accept if there is money involved rather than just free kit like most county players.

he does appear to be a bit of a mercenary when it comes to sponsors so probably just backed himself to get a better deal somewhere else, grays would have had an instant get out with the SS labels on his bat last week so might have been a take it or leave it deal knowing he probably wasn't getting a test contract

Interesting one this, as lots of discussion on the forum where nobody (as far as I know) actual knows Bairstow at all. We're all guilty to some extent of forming opinions about people in the public eye, without actually having anything concrete to base it on I suppose.
