GN or not, Bairstow is clearly popular with CBF.

Am sure JB has his problems but walking away from an economically unappealing deal is fair enough. Seems like a lot of hate for the poor guy.
And if GN actually force sponsored players to use Made by GN bats, then it’s quite ridiculous imo (but obviously players need to cover up other brand stamps). Would be one thing if James Laver or Salix asked for that, but GN is just another Asian bat maker now.

Personally, I would like to see more players actually use the bats  that they are sponsored to use rather than sticking labels from a brand on bats that they have sourced from another supplier

So would I, but sponsorship is a big part of the modern game whether it's a large cricket company like GM, SS or something unrelated like MRF...I remember wondering who they were when Sachin was the first to advertise that company.

It's unrealistic not to think any player would take as much money as possible and maximise their earnings in today's sporting environment, it can be a short career and that goes for any sport.

I do think if you are sponsored by 'X' company you should absolutely make sure their sponsorship is visible and no one else's...

Whether those players use another brand has gone on for years and probably will continue. smaller manufacturers may have a relationship with X player but are not financially able to offer a sponsorship.

This isn't unique to cricket. Rory and Tiger have both famously been spotted with non Nike golf clubs in their bags (usually with badly added Nike logos) over the years despite being on huge Nike deals.

I think at the top level, sponsors just use players as advertising. I.e they want their brand to be visible - why would they care who actually makes the bat being used by the player. They care about what’s on the billboard, not who made the billboard itself.

Interesting one this, as lots of discussion on the forum where nobody (as far as I know) actual knows Bairstow at all. We're all guilty to some extent of forming opinions about people in the public eye, without actually having anything concrete to base it on I suppose.

Nail on the head

Plenty discussion doesnt mean theres any truth or facts involved

I like Bairstow. And now he has a deal with the biggest brand in the world.

Also, the media ask him the questions... At least he's honest and fair play to him for answering.

This tread is literally as forum wet dream- big name player dropped for using hard to spot non sponsor correct kit  :D

The reason there doesn't seem to be a lot of love for Bairstow is how he comes across in the media, which is really the only connection most have with any of these players. Always bitter, always hard done by, always me me me, little to nothing about the team, lots of public whining, etc. How he comes across in the media is the direct opposite of someone like Woakes and there isn't that much which is endearing to the average fan I guess.

Far better summed up than I could.

He is a very very good one day player thou and hope he continues to win us games in the short form.

Worth bearing in mind the media don't always portray everything 100% as it is.

Plucking this one out of the air.   Bairstow could have had a performance clause within his GN contract - i.e. must have a test contract, as they really love a test player.

It's been mentioned in the series thread but looks like Bairstow's changing sponsors again,  he's using a blank bat in the test. It's probably related in some way but I also noticed he was wearing a model of new balance spikes that's at least 6 years old so maybe SS we're supplying his Nike spikes too. Have to wonder which brands would want to take him on at this point considering how many sponsors he's been through, wouldn't be surprised if he ended up with someone like DSC

Actually just had a quick look on Getty and he's been in those shoes since the Netherlands game in the world cup so that's maybe not linked. Also notice he's not bothered taping the logos on his pads this time unlike the previous instances of him being sponsorless
