My first bat was a maestro too, as was my first car, both were rubbish!

Never used GM kit, but some of the best bats I've played against were GM maestros
I'm seriously thinking about a new one for 2016

The bat scored runs, but was a hand me down from a senior at the club. By the time it reached me it was done. The same bloke also gave me a very used centurion which I loved, pity they aren't around anymore.

These two were dug out by my neighbour, do you notice anything unusual about them? or do you actually remember them?

Know the modulus well. It had honeycomb inserts in the scoops. They pretty much always fell out eventually.

We have one of these as a club bat, I think all the honeycomb is still intact.

Presumably the bonding wasn't great given the changes to the design? Or the MCC didn't like the construction?

I tried to buy a modulus years ago. The company I was buying from refused to send it out (it was mail order because in our part of the country they were hard to get), due to issues with the honeycomb falling out. They sent me a much more expensive Insignia in its place that was wonderful.

Anyone remember the Hunts County Eclipse from the early nineties? I've never seen one on here or ebay...

The prototype was sliced open and filled with the carbon fibre honeycombe, something about making the bat stiffer but much lighter, it did go into production with no carbon fibre visible unlike the prototype which could be seen on the shoulders and toe I think, these bats went out with a few pros on an england tour I believe, Darren maddy being one of them, the bats from what I'm led to believe performed very well, but the MCC got involved and banned the use of carbon fibre, my neighbour and his friend, an owner of hunts county had meetings at MCC to fight there case but lost, at this point I believe the laws of bat making were changed to must be entirely made from wood, so my neighbour was instrumental in changes the laws of cricket.

On a side note , I don't remember the Eclipse but funnily enough I was servicing a boiler a few weeks ago when I spotted a bat in the corner of the cupboard, an Hunts County Eclipse, I really liked the shape of it tbh and took some photos, was thinking of having something similar made, I will post some pictures later of it.

So here's something a little more.... Conventional. A decent acquisition thanks to Gumtree, here we have a GN Optimum 1000 Megastrike. Must be about 20 years old and given its size, it's fairly heavy on the pick up, even with a slight duckbill toe. It's certainly a well oiled example!

You need to put a yellow grip on it so it can be a true robin smith bat.

@tim2000s - what you should do is take it to GN and get them to make a modern version of that bad - it would be awesome...

Funnily enough, I have a yellow grip just waiting to be unravelled and put into use, and as the old grip is shot....!
