Thanks @cricketrob

I used an orbital sander for all my sanding and a buffer drill piece for the buffing. I used David's at Norfolk Bats today as it much quicker to use. I use the following sandpaper grit for the majority of bats 120, 180, 240, 320 and 400. I may skip 120 if the bat is in good condition.
Thanks mate I will have to give it a do in a couple of bats I have

I went over to see David at Norfolk Bats this morning to grab a couple of sets of stickers (also a few others bits which I will post elsewhere). I have given this bat a coat of oil and then a generous buff since the last photos. Buffing the bat makes it wonderfully smooth and silky, I can nearly see a reflection on it! All its needs is a scuff sheet and edge tape to protect the surface cracks and toe damage. I'm pretty confident it still has a few hundred runs left in it and does not feel dead when bouncing a ball on it. Ambitious and not rubbish, result!

Still don't get it @Nmcgee?

Refurbishing bats is not my cup of tea but I will certainly say @wayward_hayward , you do a very fine job and these bats have come up very well.

With the clocks going back in the UK and the nights getting earlier and earlier, it must mean it's time to resurrect this thread.

I received this today from eBay. Stickered up as a B3 3 stripe bat, although I'm not 100% if it's genuine. The seller was from Nottingham so could be a refurb job by them. Any ideas @thedoctor?

Damage to the RH inside edge/toe and also some delamination above the area. Not an easy first project of the winter.

@wayward_hayward - have you checked for the model number on the binding? Pretty sure refurbs of other brands don't get stripes or series stickers either. Looks like a DB1 to me. Asked the @The Doctor ?

Wierd. Why did the eBay add show a newbery sticker on top of the handle?

May have been a wrong picture added

With the cork handle, full sticker set and grains matching the grade. It looks a genuine 3 stripe series b3 to me.!

As i said before, the photo that showed the Newbery sticker had a different grip on too, I presumed it was just a wrong photo that slipped in, easily done.

The eBay listing did have a Newbery handle sticker. It must have been a different bat as this bat has the B3 sticker as shown above. I am still sceptical as the bat has no number on the handle or binding......

Damage aside, it seems a solid bat!

Here is the B3 from my previous update. My first attempt to build up the missing piece of wood involves some pva and sawdust mixed together. Going to give it a couple of days to dry and then sand it on Saturday.

If it works. Does that mean we can use chipboard to make bats out of?

Well I suppose it could go one of two ways....

The sawdust I used is pure willow from a previous refurb so hoping it will do the trick.

I wish you luck but I would be surprised if it lasts. Why didn't you splice in a piece of willow from a donor bat?

Simple answer is because I don't have a donor bat at the minute and i wanted to see how successful this attempt was. I will give this a go and if it isn't successful, I will attempt to glue a donor piece in place.
