I played my first game for my new club on Saturday.  After an all concurring 2014, where the club I helped found won everything. I decided it was time to move on and play at a more relaxing standard.  So I went from a side that won division one to the team that came bottom of division ten. I would add that last year I was mainly used as the number 11 and boundary fielder. In total I faced 32 balls all season.

With the pitch a little damp after overnight rain, the opposition put us into bat. I was down to bat a 7.  but after 4 overs I found myself walking out to bat with the score at 13 for 5. Soon after we were 23 for 9.  A last wicket stand saw us limp to 70 all out. I batted ok for my 38, before lobbing an easy catch to square leg.  I have been kicking myself since.

You scored more runs in one knock this year than your total balls faced last season, seems a worthwhile move to me

Yep, really enjoyed the game.  Also no off the pitch hassle of running a club.  My first game last season I spent waiting to 3.00 for one of the first team to finish work, so I could drive him to the game, got to my game in the seconds as the last over of our innings was being bowled.

Not good that's the sort of thing that wears you down.

I have been trying to develop myself as a proper batsman from a bowler who can bat a little. Scores of 17, 3 and 1 so far. Walked in at no 4 in the first game and a few minutes after I walked in it became 30/6 or so. Played without taking too many risks against a good bowling attack and got the top score for the team. So I thought my season as a proper batsman was on. Second game I threw away my wicket by playing an uppish square drive. Got an excellent bouncer in the third game (astroturf on top of concrete) and in an attempt to keep my face intact, I lobbed a catch to the wicket keeper. My weakness against good pacy bowling on bouncy wickets remain unsorted. Looks like I will be asked to move down the order since team manager is prone to knee jerk reactions. Guess I just need to work harder on my batting.

If the problem is in defence get into line and head and body  over the bounce with soft hands drop the ball by your feet.

Havent posted on this yet due to dissertation deadlines, all sorted now! So far played 6, won two and lost 4.
In order, loss to Brighton Uni by 80 runs chasing 188 (not good when its a rematch of Varsity which the team won!) Figures of 0/40 off 7, and last man out for 3, got a catch.
Loss by four wickets to Brighton College in a t20 friendly. Bit embarrasing to lose to the sixth formers! Another catch and 0/14 off 3 opening up with my leg breaks.
Loss to Christ Church Canterbury Uni, all out for about 120 chasing 220. 0* from number 11, and figures of 10/3/15/2.
Win vs Pinner CC 1st XI, they are new to the Morrant Chilterns League so we didn't know what to expect. We got 269/6 declared in 47 overs, personally got 9, but one of our batters set a new club record at 175*, then only got two overs for 1 run as the seamers skittled the opposition for 61 inside 28 overs.
Win vs Chalfont St Peter CC Academy on Sunday (I didn't play on Saturday as my dissertation was in Monday and I'd committed to captain our Academy team). We got 235/8 off 40, got caught for 4 cutting a left arm seamer to mid off, he must have been all of 14 years old so not the quickest! Took 6/2/11/5, made sure everyone had a decent bowl but the opposition were getting ahead of the run rate so I had a go, bowled them out for 126.
Loss vs Chichester Uni yesterday. Another humiliation to be honest. They got 260 having been 70/6 after 25, of which I got 3/44 off 10. We then lost wickets in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th overs. I went in at 26/7 during the 14th over, and myself and our number 11 ended up as top two scorers with 13 for me and 12* for him in our 55 all out. So just the small matter of a 204 run defeat when we were in control of the match after half their innings. Oops.
So far then only 29 runs in 5 innings, and 10 wickets in often unhelpful conditions, along with two catches, but I feel like I'm hitting the ball well and just need some luck to go my way.

First t20 game. Love hit and giggle.  Batted myself 3.

Went out in the 3rd over.

Took guard.

Left first ball

It hit off stump.

Glad I rushed to that game from work!

So, I found out this evening I'm not in the top 12 selected to face probably the strongest team in our league this Saturday, after not making the 11 to play one of the weakest teams in our league last week, who we played a few weeks ago with a less than par team full of newbies/part-time players and won quite convincingly. Our 'new' team destroyed them last week within 13 overs knocking off the 84 runs we needed in a 40 over league game.

After having been left out of the t20 final we got to last year, I guess I knew what was probably going to happen this year with a new President, who originally joined our club a few seasons ago because of how we played the game for enjoyment and competed at the same time. I believe I encouraged him to join us after we won the t20 or 40 over league final that year...Yes.. we used to struggle some weeks to get 11 in those days and past years and yes we've had an influx of good, new players but I feel like a dagger has been put through my heart after recent disappointments with non-selection.

I've been playing for my team for 7 years being a co vice-captain last year and vice-captain the year before and am now a zero looking at best with the new philosophy of our selectors to play for our 2nd/social team to prove myself because of all the new players with beginners and others like me who can't even get a game after the pre-season friendlies and intra-club games, where I felt I was playing solidly without scoring a lot of runs myself e.g 57 run opening partnership.

I'm a player who's always worn his heart on his sleeve, coached new and existing players in nets, one of the first to training and last to leave, sold numerous bats mainly off this forum to new players so they can get the most from their bat with the quality and skill they possess so they can do well for our team. I even sold him his current bat...

What was it all for? How do I hold my head up in training with both my friends I've played with for years and the new players who all know me? What do I do with a text sent to me this evening by the new President to meet for a few beers, a chat and game of pool received before the team selection was announced via e-mail?

I'm devastated, upset and angry.....

quit and move to a club where you will get a regular game without having to jump through all the hoops. Participation levels are down, there are more clubs than players.. no player needs to be mistreated by any club. Clubs need to realise they are nothing without players. Players hold the power now.

Played our 4th game of the LMS season on Wednesday versus the strongest team in the league. After restricting them to 50 less than anyone else had managed, we contrived to bat like plonkers and I, coming in at number 8 in the 12th over, scored a third of our teams runs with 24. We lost. Heavily.

@tim2000s Well it certainly sounds like your having a great time!!!

Not wanting to miss out on a public spanking I'm often around wed Thursday if you ever need a player. I obviously won't have any kit with me but happy to make up the numbers if I can.
