Yes they are. All the tosspots playing well below their standard to inflate their egos have them!

I think that's a misunderstanding. Bowling averages and batting averages are both lower.

When can we expect your England call up @SLA? We are in need of the next Steve Smith.

If a bowling average of 12.5 is personally mediocre then it does sound like you might want to try playing a higher standard...

Totally disagree. My bowling average this season is just over 10. I’m a crap bowler but as I’m 2nd or 3rd change I tend to bowl against the tail. As I bowl pretty straight and serve up loads of half volleys I get wickets as the lesser batsmen can’t make the boundary.
Sometimes stats can be misleading. So stop being so vitriolic and perhaps see it from a different perspective.

Bowling averages of around 15 are pretty standard for club cricket, especially T20 stuff.

Now I will start by saying I am not trying to be argumentative at all.

Iv just looked through Play cricket and we don’t have a single bowler (who has taken more than 25 wickets) with an average at 12’s or even that close.

As a one of season that would be impressive, relevant to the level of cricket you play but if you or anyone achieves a consistent return of a wicket every 12 runs they are playing well below the level they should be playing.

Our top 4 front line bowlers are all between 20 & 35 and that’s across there playing careers which seems to be the norm from what I can make out

What would people say is a good “average” for someone to have for whatever standard they play?

Bat and ball that is  :)

That’s a fair call. I only played about 4 games this year, bowled 25 overs, 9 wickets. Last season averaged about 16 with 23 wickets.
I feel this season has been more bowler friendly and most weeks we have been playing sides 2 divisions higher.

Funny how clubs vary. My career bowling average is 15 and I've never been the best bowler at any club I've played at. Of our clubs top 20 wicket takers, 15 have averages under 20. The highest is 27 and the lowest is 8.5.

What's with the pointless antagonism?

No pointless antagonism, a tongue in cheek comment regarding someone that is either A) playing against 5 year olds/ way below their standard or B) not being entirely truthful about how “mediocre” their season was.

I always called club cricket the 30's

Average with the bat over 30 and your doing well

With the ball average under 30 and you done OK

Anything under 20 with lots of wickets and overs bowled is usually done by the professional only but thats in a full season we're I expect 50 - 70 wickets in a normal season depending on the rules

I'm a keeper or was what do I know

Neither my career bowling average (15) nor batting average (40) are out of the ordinary for club cricket. I just had a better season batting than usual with the bat, which was nice. Why the need to try to try to take people down just because they've done ok?

Do you really know your "career stats"?

I wouldn't know anything of what I have done I couldn't tell you how many ducks or 100 I have off my head or anything do stats really mean so much to people.

I've played in leagues before where 15 would be a pretty poor average with the ball! Amateur cricket varies wildly, let's be fair - 30 could be a cracking average or see you never getting a bowl again depending on what you're playing. Normally batting and bowling averages are linked though - 40 with the bat and 15 with the ball surely can't both be normal at the same time.

Considering SLA plays at clubs who dont have bars with players who dont own bats I suspect the standard is probably friendly village at best. But looks like a good season nonetheless average of 90 isnt to be sniffed at.

I took 3-3 from 3 overs on Sunday, after 4 beers, in a friendly against a village side after not bowling in the league for 2 seasons. Bit of perspective there
