It's not at big bat but remember it's an F7 blade at 2'8. Taps up well and it has a fairly deep sound off the mallet, so not too hard pressed. Picks up well and any self respecting club cricketer would be pretty happy with it. GM's quality control on the lower end bats is outstanding and this looks every bit as good as a high end GM. Nice pickup.

Bat 2 is a GM Six6:-
39mm Edge
60mm Spine?
9 straight grains
Looks like a knot at the bottom bat naturally bleached to an inch of it's life
Weight 2'11 (just under)
On ebay - Nope, pondering keeping this one

Heavier with an F4.5 face, this bat feels like a big piece of wood. Look past the blemish and you have 9 pretty straight grains. Responds and sounds good again. Though I suspect the Icon responds slightly better, this has the coverage. On my keep list at present.
-
Both bats look alright for 404's, is that a butterfly stain on the Icon?
I'm waiting for the delivery driver to drop my Icon and Six6 off.

I think that might be - daughter was just having a bash with the mallet and it certainly wasn't dead in that area.

It's not at big bat but remember it's an F7 blade at 2'8. Taps up well and it has a fairly deep sound off the mallet, so not too hard pressed. Nice pickup.
That doesn't look bad at all - the grains are pretty straight, it's the butterfly mark that puts the waves in there.
-
Looks nice. I'm waiting for my Kook bubble to arrive. Hopefully it won't be a plank, but for £11.99 it was worth the risk.
-
My Bubble has arrived and weighs in just under 2.9

No sheet on it but it is very pale. I have removed the stickers and given it a quick clean with white spirit and the grains have shown up a bit better.

It was on yesterday afternoon

That's good to know can't wait to get mine you can find some real guns in the lower end bats from kookaburra

Yep, was hoping they hadn't tried to wreck a perfectly good bat with paint or a fake grain sheet.

That stain looks like storm damage to me not butterfly.
-
The stain is a water mark and doesn't effect performance or durability.
update: Sorry was looking at the vertical stains on my phone, not sure about the horizontal stain - I think it's a bar stain or hardbar? Might of been Dave or Streaky who mentioned this to me.

I do love this forum!
Since Streaky's blog every other bat posted has been diagnosed as being storm damaged! :'D

looks bleached willow the bubble give it a good sand I bet it's butterfly . It's something all the big brands use to do to sell there ugly timber but this does not make them bad bats
-
I also received this GN F18. It's a bit grubby in the pics but has cleaned up well with the removal of the price labels and a quick wipe with white spirit. Weighs just over 2.9.

Not sure what possessed them to stick a fibre sheet underneath it. Would look much better if they had done the same as GM.

A scalpal blade, some PVA glue to re-apply the front sticker (optional) and some white spirit will sort that out!
Can I call first dibs on any F18 blades people decide to move on :-[

Got my bubble today and decided to sand back a bit of the bleached willow back do I sand it back even more or leave

Get some oil on there and the face should come to life
Whats the specs on that one?
-
How does it tap up? Weight / specs? Happy with it, given what you have spent? The Power sticker.... is it staying or is it going?
-
I'd carefully remove all the stickers sand all the bat and then re apply the stickers
-
The bat is 2.9 and for 11 pounds what not to like other than the really bleached willow I am tempted to sand right back to show the butterfly stain off then give it a coat of oil very pleased with the way the bat taps up and I will be loosing the power sticker

Good move, might bring a bit of colour back into it.
-
Can I get first call on this if you decide to sell before our net?? ;)

They must soak them in bleach as it really goes a long way in to the cleft took quite a bit of time to bring any colour back to the bat

You can mate but think she going to be a keeper their not a lot not to like and being a butterfly cleft you know it be strong idea for wet weather
-
I had a feeling you would keep it, but that's a proper bat!
Nice weight and a beautiful butterfly, who wants clean G1 blades anyway? I love a blemished bat :D

I don't mind a ugly duckling mate as long as she pings that's all that I worry about

Looks like storm damage and a pro pressed bat to me... ;)

(Apologies for poor photo , I'm not actually in possession of the bats yet)
F18 is 2.7 and V100 is 2.10 .
Not the worst looking for £33 combined
-
Get the f18 stripped down it will look much better if we can see the grains and at 2.7 that's a nice light bat
-
That f18 looks like a steal!!
-
Doesn't look bad at all, how many grains?

Don't know exactly as they have been delivered to home and I'm at uni till the middle of December. It was a struggle just to get that picture sent by my parents who know nothing about cricket bats
-
Does anyone know which of the sd bats are the octane shape?
-
I also received this GN F18. It's a bit grubby in the pics but has cleaned up well with the removal of the price labels and a quick wipe with white spirit. Weighs just over 2.9.

Well spotted sir. Thought I would chance it along with a couple of others on the bay. I used two bats all of last season so really don't need 9 for the next one!

Can we have some fun with your folks? Ask for a profile pic, a pic of the concaving and get them to measure the edges. No more info than that and see what comes back...

Was a one day flash sale mate I picked a nice v800 grade 3 and the bubble for 31 pounds which is just crazy
-
Is that horizontal white mark half way up the bat part of the butterfly stain or a sign of storm damage? I only ask as my bubble has the same mark right across the sweet spot. Also, is it better to sand the bleached willow back before oiling or won't it make any difference.
-
After seeing the Butterfly Kookaburra's, i'm gutted I removed one from my basket.

I think a lot of people are now looking to much into storm damage after the doctor put a post up these marks on the kookaburra bats are what's known as butterfly stain and are very unlikely to break I sanded mine back so I could see the stain more then I gave it a light oil I think you're be very surprised with the performance of these bats

I think you're right about the performance of the bat. Mine weighs 2.8 with 6 wide straight(ish) grains. I was astounded how well it tapped up on the mallet and the pick up is beautiful. I bought it with a view of using it as a net bat, but I think with a bit of TLC this could well be my match bat.
-
Get some pictures of the bat up it be nice to see the face mate
-
I will do. I'll have to sand it back a bit first though, as it has been bleached so much it's hard to show the grains in a picture. Anyone got the link of how to upload photos?

Good stuff. I'm still waiting for my 6 other bats to be delivered. Heard nothing from SD on the order processing being completed and tomorrow is technically the end day for 5 day delivery. They normally suggest 3-5 working days from purchase to delivery. Couple of team mates have already received there's on the same standard delivery two days ago.
-
Mine took a day to be processed, but were here Monday. Have they taken payment from you?
-
I think your bubble is butterfly willow as well are you going to strip any of the bleached willow back

Not yet but it's being held so I can't use those funds.

Rang SD today to find out what was going on. Apparently the v100 xcell is stuck on a high pallet and they can't get to it without special equipment (you think a ladder might be available). Anyway, he thinks it will be sorted by the weekend and all orders shipped out. Took the opportunity to cancel the rubbish v600 titan with the painted back - even at £6.99 it sounds too much.
-
Sounds like the worst excuse ever! How highs the warehouse!!!
-
Worked in a warehouse in my youth. The racks can get 40/50ft high and if it's just a handful of orders in a busy warehouse it can lead to issues. An average forklift might not do the job and you need something much bigger to get the pallet down. Once you get a pallet down you then have to put it somewhere or clog up other machines moving stuff on the same racks. Still a crap excuse after a week.
-
They must have sorted the v100 Xcell now as there was 1 amongst my order! And I finally got an email saying that my order is with warehouse team. And just got another email a couple of hours after to say that my order (which was 7 bats) have been picked and are awaiting shipping after being picked! Looks positive :D

So technically, SD hand-pick all their bats... ;)

Look alright those - especially for the money. A young lad at our club (leg-spinner and Eric from House of Fools lookalike Ben Burns) has a V800 Fusion and got me to knock it in for him. A lovely shape and for the money (he bought it from a SportsDirect store for £50 or whatever) it's a really decent bat, even at fifty notes. The V100's I have seen are a very nice shape too. Be interesting to see the rest of the bargain buys, as all those now being delivered aren't shop-soiled ex-display jobs, but fresh out of the box located at the very summit of SportsDirect's giant temperature controlled bat warehouse...
-
That V100 G3 is a very very clean willow for a grade 3 mate. Hope it taps up & later opens up well for you. Great purchase.

I think they was the same price as the v800 which was 20 pounds
-
Yes they tap up well , i felt V800 taps up better than V100. V800 seems like soft pressed.
-
Glad I didn't gamble as all far to light for me.
Just been playing with a v800 fusion in sport direct castle ford. And although looks okay, was far far too light! Probably 2.8/9(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h76/smilley792/BADD36FC-29E4-47FF-8469-9A42D5A4A886_zpsu2i7guha.jpg) (http://s61.photobucket.com/user/smilley792/media/BADD36FC-29E4-47FF-8469-9A42D5A4A886_zpsu2i7guha.jpg.html)

The V100s were £12.99 in the 'snap-sale'... The Kook Bubble Powers were £11.99. Think everyone, especially on here, knows that SportsDirect owns Slazenger, but surely as someone else stated, that must represent a big loss? However, they are back up to "full" price at £43, the Bubbles back up to £41. Even at these prices - and the V800 Fusion at £50 - they are both accessible and affordable for the young novice player or for folks who can't shell out big money on a bat.
It is a gamble on weight / looks / performance - but good luck to all those that took the plunge.

When's the forum rebrand happening?
Bargain bin forum
Cricket forum, love a witch hunt, grab some firewood
Ha
Dude.. It's nice to get cheap willow. It's not gonna be matchbats for many, for me it's a cheap thrill, that might give me a net bat, might give me a resell opportunity.

My order has been processed finally. Tomorrow or Monday I guess.
Agree with the above - I think most of us would agree that we love a bargain but most of the forum sponsors will have little to worry about as not many of us will be using these as match bats next season. Net bat or a wet wicket bat maybe or back onto eBay.

I don't know mate I think the kookaburra might get used in bad weather or when playing friendly in case of cheap balls
-
I think there are some folks who will use these bargains as match bats - maybe tailenders or those without the means to afford more expensive willows. The forum sponsors need not worry. I like a bargain and from doing so have provided my lad last winter with a net bat whilst awaiting his custom made - which I then sold on to a team mate this summer (for less than I paid for it) - plus I have provided for free bats to youngsters or those without vast amounts of disposable income who I know were struggling. In my experience gone is the team kit bag with most folks having their own personal kit (another positive for forum sponsors). Would I bat with one of these SD specials? Probably, at my age I am on the way down with the bat having once been an opener. I have always been very specific and particular with my bats and still am. Despite me having retired last game of the season and then suggested I'd play 2nds next year - I am back 'out if retirement' and probably will play 1st XI (61 wickets last year albeit in a strictly amateur league and Div 1 not Prem at that....). As such I have a custom made being fettled for me as I type, but some folks on here need to understand that cricket is a broad church and should be if the game is to survive and prosper, folks from all backgrounds need to be able to afford to play. There is room for all and the subject isn't as binary as some people clearly think it is and all points between the GN Legend and the heavily discounted V100 SportsDirect special should be open for discussion. But it's clearly not all bargain bin stuff on here and neither should it be. But let's not be too supercilious about low end 'bargains', because for some folks it's all they can afford. Yes, there is a risk you'll bag a duffer, but that is part of the gamble I guess. We might all covert the Porsche or Ferrari, but probably drive more modest vehicles. Although either wouldn't be able to get 5 blokes and a load of cricket kit in like my Skoda Superb! Good day all.

Might be a laminate !!! I ordered one of these as well, which I'll donate to our junior section for me and the other coaches to use. Think my delivery has been made this PM, so Yodel inform me....
However, wife working from home today X bat shaped deliveries = questions being asked when I get home from work...

I'm giving mine to the club as well, too good a deal to miss out on.

F18 - took a fair amount of the fibre tape off (and a tiny bit of bat). However for 14 grains if was worth it:-

Can i buy that F18 on saturday Nick?? ;)

btw - the Kook Bubble and V1200 are heading to ebay. The v100 is sold before anybody makes me an offer. I have sold the icon via ebay and will keep the Six6/F18 for the time being.

I'll bring it down but I do quite like it and I normally hate GN bats, even the F18.

Looking forward to the 6six pics

Knocking in wise, the Slaz claim they are ready to play, as do the GM - both with the warnings about giving it a bit of final prep. Smashing the GM with the mallet is my method. The GN hasn't go any mention of being knocked in and the Kook is soft beyond belief.

Yeah the bubble I got is really soft too. Which v100 did you get, xcell?

The v100? I'm not an expert but the slaz bats seemed to tap up nicely and were well finished. Whoever makes their bats seems to be doing a good job.

Delivered yesterday - 2 x V100 xcells and 2 x Kook Bubble Powers and 1 x V1200 boom-bat type thing (to be donated to the club) - all very nice indeed actually - will post pics as and when. Certainly one of the Bubbles is a belter and despite the bleached willow has lovely straight grains and picks up like a wand, certainly felt less than it's 2 11 dead weight - I could use it and I'm a 2 8 / 2 9 man. The other Bubble is no looker (cross-weave anti-scuff on that bad boy me thinks). None of these are for me or the boy - as we are very well furnished in the bat department thanks very much - but contrary to one or two comments on this thread, certainly a couple of these could very well be "match bats" for some folks. Have one or two lads lined up to take bats off my hands - so the timing of this "flash sale" was serendipitous. Will be knocked in and ready for indoor nets in January... try B4 you buy!
-
My take away from this is when that sale happens, buy as much as you can in the models you want. Chances are if you can stretch to 2 or 3 of a type you want then one will work for you. I've found 2 out of 6 that suit me to use as net bats, the rest are being sold. If it's a net bat then I don't think any of the decent bats will disappoint. Maybe the odd one will make it to match bat status or wet weather bat. The Slaz G3 and above's are great value, GM 404's are probably the best of the bleached brigade in terms of consistency, Kook seems hit and miss, some decent GN's if you get past the tape.
-
Arrived today: Six6 (2.11) and V100 Xcell (2.10).

Such a shame removing the scuff. GM scuffs are so nice!
