Hi guys,
As there seems to be a number of threads recently of new Keeley bats members have purchased - I was wondering if we could pool some snaps of Keeley branded bats (or keeley mades)
New and old all welcome be nice to see some wonderfuly crafted willow all in one place.
Heres my current two.
2lb8oz grade 2 and a 2lb11oz Pro bin G1.Both nice looking and pingers!

Tour shape, with about the best grains I’ve ever owned. Was my match bat the last two seasons but might be relegated to nets and wet weather from 2020 due to a new found preferable for higher middled bats.

Here's my TK made Mighty willow Pearl. It came knocked in and with scuff sheet fitted. I am just starting to knock it on an old ball. At the moment I would say it is quite hard pressed. I think it will need some playing in to be comparable with my other (Indian made) bats. The middle is lovely but the edges and toe seem quite hard. Anyone else found this with a new TK? This bat is much higher grade than the one I actually ordered from the Mighty Willow Christmas sale, so I'm thinking it may have been sitting in a cupboard for a couple of years.
Have other people found this at all with Keeley bats?

Here’s my current two.
I’ve had a few in my time and at the risk of getting run out of the forum I’m not sure I like them!!!
It’s probably user error, they could well be a bit wasted on my level of ability but they have never been my go to bat on a Saturday afternoon.
I’m going to make a concerted effort to give them a good go at winter nets but suspect I’ll use a Hunts County or a cheap Chase come start of the season
In the words of Fox Mulder - I want to believe

Ah well, they're nice looking, so fine for the forum.
I would say from initial impressions that I tend to swing the bat straighter with the Keeley. Maybe this is because the handle is very well shaped and the balance good? Will try it properly at nets in a few weeks. Hard to tell from just hitting a ball on a string 😂😂, although it's definitely better than air batting.

Personally I'd say that's placebo, I think it's a load of rubbish that certain bats change your technique, with the exception of using a bat that's too heavy so your bottom hand takes over, but if you were to take a GM Keeley and B3 at the same weight your technique wouldn't change Imo
-
Sure, but I do think things like balance and handle shape do have an impact, especially if people don't have a firmly embedded technique. I'm talking here about a fairly subtle effect, maybe playing a leg drive where one bat goes straight through the ball, but with another bat the right hand tends to twist it round into more of a cross bat shot...

You are not alone, as I'd also love to find 'the TK one'. Maybe one day, but my cricketing years are into their 4th test match day. :(
-
I’ve had three I think and they’ve all been great. The handles are perfect on them and they just seem to perform better than most.
I am a B3 convert at the moment but if the opportunity came to buy a Keeley at a decent enough price I don’t think I could let it pass.
-

Have had a couple and the performance has been brilliant but I'm not a fan of the handle shapes, that's why I like GM bats so much - the thicker oval handle just feels right in my hands.
I have tried, but I can't get the same feel by using two grips, tape etc.
-
Same boat here - picked up a few but never liked them, mainly because of the handles. Never bought the tape thing, if the handle's too thin then it's too thin, you can get the shape but not the balance. Do have a Keeley made Mongoose Cor3 with a lovely handle, needs some more use to bring the best performance out of it though I think.
-
On my Keeley bats I have frequently put a second binding on the bottom hand and that has done the trick, sometimes with tape underneath.
A lot like this, although it isn't a Keeley
(https://i.postimg.cc/4NwRDHm5/IMG_20190421_172152.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/fJ3PXL7t)

I've tried double binding too Buzz but a single layer of extra twine isn't enough for my big hands.

I can vouch for this @Buzz as this was the case on BB I had from you it did help
I tend to use tape on a keeley I am the same as the comments above - not keen on the handles. Although some of the keeleys that Uzi gets at uzi sports tend to have a “Merlin” handle on them which really helps and feels great

I have around 14 Keeleys myself. I just love the way they feel.

[/quote]
TBH doesn't look much difference in price at the moment and actually some cheaper currently with Keeley than B3 since the price rises, don't think I can justify £315 for a grade 2 bat! Prices continue to rise.
-
If price is a concern, Keeley's are available at reasonable prices. You have to look around though.

Now that’s a trio!

How are you getting on with the Pearl? Did it take a while to knock in and open up like the one I have recently got hold of?

The 3 on the left are SH and the 3 on the right small men’s
Far left was Azhar Ali. Minimal concaving 2lb8oz and huge. Next is a superior G1 with no concaving at 2lb8.5oz this has the ‘merlin’ handle velvetsky mentioned previously. Next custom shorter blade with spine to the toe, g2 2lb7.5oz
3rd and 2nd from right are both the same shape at 2lb7.5oz and 2lb5.5oz both big bats. Far right is smaller and 2lb5.5oz
-
Iv had a couple but will be honest and say whilst they were decent bats I didn’t find them much if any better to my GM bats Iv been using for the last few seasons. Will say they pick up well and of course they are good but I would still rather a salix over a Keeley personally

@SOULMAN1012 are the GM 808 and Keeley same price?

@SOULMAN1012 are the GM 808 and Keeley same price?
GM 808 bats will be around £225 mark with an RRP of £270 so that’s about the price of a G3 Keeley which are £199 from post places (a bit more from Keeley direct website prices) 808 is G2. A G2 Keeley is £265 roughly again a bit more from Keeley direct.

Can you post pics of the whole handle shape please? People keep saying the pro handles are different from the pleb handles.

From what i have 2 'pleb' and 1 'pro' the pleb are more oval at the bottom than the pro bat

But the shoulders are bigger on pro bats too

all about the shouders IMO

Yes you are probably right on reflection @Canners
However the handles do tend to be of better quality on a pro keeley

Lovely pair of bats - what grades are they? And are the Worx’ stickers dark green in colour?
-
Thanks! Unsure on the exact grade of each bat, but the worx bat was originally a Phantom custom, it is in the same shape as the original dark edition but just wasn't grainy enough to be a dark edition. The performance on the bat is still the best out of all the bats that have passed through my hands. The stickers as british racing green, you can see them better in the google photos album :)
The superior was originally a blank bats, its shape is essentially the keeley superior shape. I believe it was officially a grade 2.
I really recommend the keeley refurb service, it was 30 quid for each bat and I got repairs like the toe needed doweling on the phantom, new toe guards, new scuff sheets, new stickers, new grips, and handle rebinding on the phantom. The finish on the bats is like new as well!
-
Would he sticker up bats he didn't make following a refurb?
Asking for a friend...
-
A friend has sent off an SG which was returned to him with stickers on following a refurb. Might be worth a call to double check.
-
Great!
On a totally unrelated topic, does anyone want anything from Sports Direct...
When's eBay doing £1 selling fees next ;)

I just emailed them to let them know i'll be sending them off, I then attached a bit of paper listing what work needed to be done to each bat, and the grip and sticker choice.

Which shape are these? Look amazing!
-
Both were custom made. So the burgundy one was based on the usual shape I use, so similar to the other bats and the second one with the blue stickers was to try something a little different, just something with a pretty long middle and big. Both are around 2’10.5 and are really well balanced.
-
The blue one in pic above is amazing. great shape
-
This one is pretty special. This is a current England players bat so I’m told via the bat maker himself. From a batch made for an overseas tour that said player used but the handle snapped so was re-handled and them made its way to myself.
Edges are 40mm
Weights is 2.10.3 (single grip)
Very oval handle

@ch1p Both the bats look wonderful. Mind sharing the weights
-
Cheers mate. The top is 2’9.5 and the latest one is just a hair under 2’10. Both are slightly shorter blades and longer handles to make them regular SH length overall.
-
Thanks! Generally Keeley's in 2-8 or 2-9s weights are not that chunky, so 40mm Keeleys always special :)

Who’s jumped on the Keeley sale? Surely one of us have. Can’t say I’m guilty just yet but majorly tempted 😊

Is this the same shape as the Superior?
All the pictures online that I see of the superior look more high spined and like older style Newbery mjolinar shape, but with bigger edges.

It’s commonly called “blueing” and it is the absorption of minerals in the soil into the sapwood, will have absolutely no effect on performance or durability. It seems to be getting more common nowadays too, wonder if Britain’s changes in climate has had an effect.

Ahh ok
Looks a great stick anyway

Funnily enough got this off the forum - it was that shorter blade, standard handle one (believe it may have been somewhat controversial) - got a longer handle in to make it SH and it’s a beaut.

I fear I may have caught the Keeley bug...
Over the last few months, I have kept a very close eye on Keeley's social media pages, specifically interested in the bats they are posting images of. As the weather starts to turn and Boris's seemingly positive announcement last Monday confirmed we would get a season this year, I decided to take the plunge. In typical forum fashion, rather than purchasing one, I have ended up with three so I thought I would post some photos of the bats that arrived today and give a short 'review' of my experience to date.
I first got in touch with Keeley via email last Monday as I was particularly keen on one of their Instagram specials. Unsurprisingly, the bat in question had sold, but Keira was happy to honour the pricing seen online for both G2 and G3 bats. I am not too fussy when it comes to bats, so I requested one of each grade, both around 2lb 10oz fully dressed in the Worx 074 profile. Going above and beyond what I had expected, I then received a WhatsApp message from Keira with a couple of photos of the bats that have been selected. Both looked fantastic so I gave the green light and got the money sent over. Subsequent messages to Keira about minor topics such as pressing, knocking in and delivery were answered promptly and in detail.
These two arrived this morning. The rainbow edition bat is a grade 2 bat, the yellow is a grade 3, both weighing 2lb 10.3oz with stickers, grip, toe guard and scuff sheet applied.
Having done extensive shadow batting in the home office this morning, both feel great. The traditional Keeley thin oval handle is present which I will bulk out with an additional grip. Tapping up with an old ball, both sound brilliant and it is difficult to find a difference in the two bats.

To summarise, I have been extremely impressed with the whole buying experience. The Keeley team must get inundated with requests both via the website and via their social media pages, so to get the personal service as I did made me very happy as a customer.
I do have a Worx 017 due for delivery in the next few days, so I will get some images uploaded of that bat later in the week.

The postman is becoming a regular visitor at the moment...
Following on from my earlier post, this morning, I took receipt of the final Keeley that I am expecting (for the moment anyway). This one was infact the first one I purchased and it was through BatsOut who were having a clearance sale. Some specs:
Grade 3
Worx 017 profile
2lb 9.3oz fully dressed
Standard TK oval handle
Tapping an old ball on this one has made my decision about my main match bat for the coming season even more harder than it was.
I will let the pictures do the talking on this one:

Four Keeley made in the current collection
QC - shorter blade longer handle set up. Zero concaving and packs a proper punch at 2lb 11oz
2 x Worx 074 - love this shape either side of 2lb 10oz
1 x Pro used - quite concaved but that’s made it massive. There’s another thread about it’s origin on here somewhere. Double thickness binding and very grainy - again 2lb 10oz

I picked up the blue Worx at the start of last season, honestly the best bat I've used. It's a grade 2, full profile, 2'9.5 with two grips. I bought the Superior this winter as I was so impressed with the Worx, grade 2 again and same weight, Keeley seems to have very generous grading. Both bats are in standard SH configuration. I suspect the Superior will be even better as the initial tap ups are very promising, I just need to get round to prepping it.
-
Stunning @Shiva_ruxin ! Did you get them direct for Keeley?
-
The Worx was from the Cricket Boutique, however the Superior was direct from Keeley.
-
For those who have been using Keeley bats recently, what is the feeling around knocking in?
I asked Keeley when purchasing my bats and the response was that the bats are pressed well enough that I should be fine to take them straight into a gentle net session. They do not feel hard pressed (when compared to some of the GM bats I have my collection) and I will be rounding off the edges a little more before braving nets, but it would be good to hear how others have faired.
-
Generally give the sensitive areas a knock for an hour or so and then get into some throwdowns in the nets. Find they really don’t take long at all to be good to go which is another part of the attraction.
-
Yeah Keeley made bats don’t tend to need too much in the way of knocking. Like @ch1p says give the toe and edges a good knock and then it should be ready for nets
-
I just bought one of the offer bats and all i can say is WOW...
I've seen a lot of hype over Keeley and kind of thought to myself "Surely they're no different to GM LEs, GN PP etc etc"
I get the hype now...
£220 for a grade 2 with free gloves was a pretty good starting point but after the first two hits with it I now feel I have committed a robbery

Yes in response to this, I've used mine a couple of times and they are more than good to go straight out of the packet.
I played against a mixture of spin and reasonably decent amateur pace and apart from some lovely cherries there has been no damage or seam marks on the bat
-
That's great news on the knocking in front, thanks to all who responded, the wife will be pleased!

Hello everyone, newbie and first time poster here, picked up my first Keeley in the Autumn, visited the factory and got the full VIP treatment since the only people that were there were Tim and Nick. Got a full tour from Tim who also picked out a few beauties for me
I'm wondering about oiling to preserve the moisture content over time. I can see that its been waxed, will oiling help or am I better just to renew the wax over time. Am minded to do nothing for now and assess at the end of the season.
Appreciate any insights you can share.
-
The wax they apply is more for polishing the blade - I would definitely oil it a couple of times. I like the bat wax, which is solid state linseed oil, as it's easier to apply

I'd recommend scuff the face, and wax/oil the exposed parts!
-
Thanks everyone for their advice, I've ordered some wax, Tim put an anti-scuff sheet on in the factory. Presume I'll need to use some fine sandpaper to carefully remove the factory applied finish to the back and edges so that the wax can penetrate the wood.
Thanks again everyone.
-
No just apply the linseed oil/wax and leave it to soak in. Do that 2/3 times.
Have a watch of this - https://b3cricket.com/cricket-bat-preparation-care-guidelines/

Purchased this in 2020, as I thought my match bat was nearing a breakage. It'll enter service this year, so I'm looking forward to finally having a swing and miss with it.

Are all regular length blades?

2 Keeley sticks that I've settled for this season. Both shorter blade, longer handle combo.
White
Grade 1, 2.11, mid-middle, 19mm toe (25mm centre), 37mm edge, 55mm spine height, 13mm shoulder. Lovely bat, was surprised how soft they are (first time using Keeley) and shot myself in the foot slightly after getting it for a bargain price (£120!) I dug out a yorker at the weekend and there's a small crack in the centre of the toe however think/hope it's just superficial. My fault for being inpatient with the knocking in!
Burgundy
Grade 1, 2.11.5, mid-middle, 22mm toe (29mm centre), 39mm edges, 59mm spine height, 17mm shoulder. Another ebay purchase, brand new. Bought not really concentrating as it was a great price for a grade 1. I purchased and the seller messaged after saying it was one of Alzarri Joseph's...Didn't really think much of this to be honest and took it with a pinch of salt, however it arrived and I can believe him!! Absolutely huge higher up the bat, very thick shoulders and although the centre of its not the biggest it's a lot bulkier than the white one all the way tip to toe....ridiculously light pickup too. Was absolutely over the moon when it came, used in a net but still needs knocking in, makes that proper shot gun style sound when you connect. Can't wait to use.
Also have another with NHS decals, Superior shape thats brand new (which I love), but unfortunately it's standard length and I just prefer these SB/LH blades.

Is the handle any thicker on the one that is supposedly a player's bat? My one big issue with Keeleys is the super skinny handle.

Yes I agree completely, that's one thing I found slightly odd moving towards them this year, it's about 3mm wider so less oval but feels more like a normal handle IMO.
-
The Keeley I've got I ended up with 3 grips on it to get it to feel similar to my other bats. Interesting that one supposedly done for a player has a thicker handle.
-
Is it a way to keep it's price down?

They're still top quality handles so I don't see how it could be.

To keep the weight down I guess.

Gosh, that just take some effort or maybe it’s my bad grip applying technique that often struggles to get two grips on!

I use three as a standard and haven't found any particular issue if the first two are chevron grips
-
To keep the weight down I guess.
Heavier bats with thin handle needs more grips to adjust...
-
Heavier bats with thin handle needs more grips to adjust...
Yes, correct. But manufacturers don't have to sell it as "2lb 9oz with 40mm edges, oh but you will want to add some grips and a counterbalance".
-
Keeley bats have always had thin handles. I don't suppose for one minute that it is anything to do with cheating the scales or keeping costs down.
-

Why not?
I never have held one, so wouldn't know, but for bigger bats using thin handle, will definitely effect balance and Pickup.
3 or 4 grips are only useful for big lads with big hands etc
It's okay if you're happy with it...
-
Because I know he takes pride in his work and wants to produce the best he possibly can. If his handles are shaped like that it will be because he thinks that is how they should be shaped.
-
Elsewhere AJ asserted that Keeleys weren't the best bats. Now he says he's never even held one...

Suppose it is also worth considering that it's much easier to bulk up a too thin handle than it is to reduce a too thick one.
-
Elsewhere AJ asserted that Keeleys weren't the best bats. Now he says he's never even held one...
Yes, I've never held a TK!🙂
And for the asking price, I would say there must be choice of handle thickness!
2 extremes: TK vs Aldo!
I believe that batmaker knows best what's he's making out of the cleft etc. But I know what I want of a cricket bat!
Atm I've 7 bats, all one grip, weighting from 2lb 8oz-2lb.10oz, only one being thin handle but really very lightweight, you guys would say it's 2lb 6oz!😀
Rest of them all have medium thick handles...
-
I imagine if you asked Keeley to make something up with a thicker handle they'd be more than happy to accommodate you.
Problem with that is I bought mine 'off the shelf' from BlankBats so wasn't an option. Lovely bat but I don't exactly have spades for hands and the handle feels tiny without extra grips.

I asked Tai when I ordered a Blankbats B4 and it was made with a thicker handle as requested by me on email exchange with him when ordering as I mentioned I didn't like the thin handle which comes as standard.

Only the second bat I'd ever bought so didn't realise quite how skinny the handles were at the time!

I think I'll start a poll in near future about this issue!
That's the only way we can find out what majority of TK owners have got on their hands 😀😀
-
Don't think you'd find anything very surprising, vast majority of Keeley made bats I've ever seen have the trademark skinny handle. The ones made for pros are the only ones I've routinely seen that look like they've got a thicker handle.

There must be a TK with at least medium thick handle!
Here, somewhere..

Three people have mentioned owning or seeing one in the last page and a bit of this thread, so yes I imagine there is.

Managed a visit recently
Blue is a Pro based on an England ODI openers shape
Pink is a G2 and massive possibly one of the biggest bats Iv ever owned
Black/red is a sub purely due to being ugly and would be a G4 which they don’t sell retail and inch shorter blade.

Thanks for sharing, what's their handles thickness?
What I've seen in here, Worx is as ugly as it gets 😀
-
The look on that lions face suggests they’re all newly oiled!
-
Surely, Chris is converted to TK!
-
Suppose it is also worth considering that it's much easier to bulk up a too thin handle than it is to reduce a too thick one.
Agreed. I think the world of my Keeleys and their handles are great! You can always add grips to a thin handle. Thinning a thick handle is a pain.
My Kranzbuhlers also have thin handles; anyone who has used or picked up a Kranzie will agree that they are incredible bats.
-
Surely, Chris is converted to TK!
Nope I use the bats I make under my own brand but couldn’t control the bat badger in me also prices are very different face to face than buying through retailers. Perk of a visit.
Handles are all on the thinner side with the exception of the Pro which is a medium think handle. Nothing a 2nd grip, thick spiral grip or double bind won’t fix.

Fair enough 😀
At least you got 3 Keeleys, enjoy the way you want to.

That black/red sticker combo is very tasty. Love the shape as well.
-
Sorry if this has been asked before or I'm being thick...
On the back of worx bats there is a small sticker with either 'WORX' 'FWORX' or 'FFWORX'. Why the Fs?

Slight difference in shapes.

Slight difference in shapes.
It's not to do with the shape it's their way of now grading bats.
Worx = grade 3
F Worx = grade 2
FF Worx = grade 1.
(I asked them this at the start of the season)...personally I think they messed up a little and it should be the other way around (so Worx = grade 1) as its cleaner but that's their decision!
Ultimate purpose i think is that they have never put grades directly on the bats before just the small sticker on the handle which can obviously easily fall off.

I have an extra special Keeley coming in that next few days...

An FFF Worx?
Do the F’s stand for or signify anything?

G3 - Worx
G2 - Fantastic Worx
G1 - Effing Fantastic Worx
Maybe?

Thanks makes sense but the reason for asking was my keeley has a grade 1 handle sticker and a FWORX back sticker suggesting its a grade 2.
Doesn't matter as I'm happy with the bat and didn't pay grade 1 money for it but at least I know now.
Just shows the most valuable part of a bat is the stickers!
-
So finally got this special Keeley in my possession... very lightly used, the odd mark/dent, did have some binding on toe that was removed by the last owner.
Bat weighs 2.12 and fills the gauge. Now need to decide whether I try and use it in its current state or send to Keeley... the bat could do with a decent clean up...

Whats the difference between a Superior shaped profile vs a Worx 074 shape in terms sweet spot performance etc? We live too far to get down to Keeley and there is no number to discuss it with them.

Curious to know this as well. Quite liked the shape of my BlankBats B4 profile. Was wondering if Keeley did something similar in their own range

For a G3 that looks insanely good.
-
Agreed, looks awesome for a Grade 3 - if you don't mind saying, how much did you pay for that Grade 3?
-
Paid £214 inc postage.
Weighs 2’9
-
What's the weight and how's it's pickup and balance?
2’9 - usually opt for a bit lighter
Pick up is about what I’d expect - will knock it in and see how it feels in the nets. If it feels too heavy it’ll be on the for sale section shortly!

It’s a joke that someone can sell a bat for £1000 let alone when it’s no different to others he sells at £650 which again in my own opinion is a joke but there is the market and I guess that’s about par with others top end offerings but £1000 for basically some different stickers is a joke

After the battering every cricket manufacturer and retailer will have taken last year I've got every sympathy for them pursuing any avenue for extra trade. If a novelty high value bat keeps them ticking over then have at it.
-

Put simply no I wouldn’t. I don’t have LE, Pro G1+ etc within my brand I just sell 3 grades and that’s it. I have a couple of G1 clefts that look the same as this and they are just G1 that’s it. I know I don’t have the name or the brand to command that price but even then I can hand on heart say no I wouldn’t do it.
-
I heard within the first 24 hours, 6 of them had gone already.
-
It's because of this; 600 plus bats, I don't think I want a Keeley anymore... its like I've no idea what grade I'm actually getting... I've approached a forum sponsor and awaiting to hear back to get something made instead...

Keeley make a nice bat but certainly cheaper options out there for a really nice bat. Especially among the forum sponsors.

A full profile bat is pointless unless you're strong? What are you basing that (nonsense) opinion on?

Our clubs Keeley sponsored player has broken three bats.
Don't know the circumstances but he looks after his kit and faces decent balls. They were replaced without question but anyone else had Keeleys break sooner than expected?

What weight do you use? Full profile? Jim.
I guessed this particular bat weights 2lb 11oz. If it turns out to be 2lb 8oz then it's another story 👍

I use full profile, 2-10ish bats. I am neither a particularly large or strong batsman.
So you've taken a wild guess at bat weight, assumed that only a large/strong batsman could use such a weight and based your assessment on that? Surely you realise how absurd that sounds.

It's daft to assume where a batsman would bat based on the bat make and weight.
The only guarantee is that all tailenders use Gray Nicolls that weigh 2lb9oz. They even have a bat model called the Tailender.

You read it wrong, point is that batsmen pick their weights according to the kind of bowling they face, majority of the time.
You'll have an opener using 2lb 13oz, but that's not common.
On the other side, not all tailenders use 2lb 9oz!
Simply not true 🙂

I would suggest you missed @Chad sarcasm in his previous post.
Assuming the weight of someone’s bat purely on there size/batting number is completely outrageous. I’ve seen guys built like a racing snake use 3lb bats, as well as guys that are strong fellas using 2lb7. It’s all about what you are comfortable with. Not what AJ on the forum assumes what you use.

About the only thing that would tempt me into another Keeley would be the option to have a thicker than standard handle so interesting and dangerous to know that's possible!

I've got one that's now too light for me that I'm looking to find a new home for, Its currently 2.7.0 dead with a grip is someone is in the market for a lightweight with a similar profile to the above.
I'll try and get some pics up in the Sale section shortly as i cleaned it up even though its not had much use.

Another Keeley was delivered this week, so I thought I would put up some photos.

Thanks to this forum - I was introduced to brands I would never of heard of before. Last year my son moved to an academy sized bat which we got from a brand he'd been using for a number of years, but we paid Adult size bat price for - he's involved in CAG and Club so we have 2 bats for him. Due to price I went to Keeley and paid half what I paid from the other brand which was a benefit for us - no issues with quality as the other brand is also fantastic (just cost) - we also popped into Keeley over the summer while we went over to Brighton for a couple of days.
Anyway just got his new bats, Both are G1 Superior models. The academy size has the Worx stickers and is 2lb 7oz and the full size bat is 2lb 8oz. He's going to be 14 soon and growing and we didn't want to be caught out mid season hence got the Adult size in.
Anyway photos are below.

So I made an error on my last visit and headed over to the old Newbery side of the “shed” for a bit of a trip down memory lane and to enjoy the Cadbury purple stickers. Whilst there I spotted an old Uzi, I’ve always loved the Uzi, my first shorter blade bat, got me my first senior 50 and 100.
An all round brilliant shape, middle a bit high for some I imagine but for me it was spot on and picking one back up just brought all the great memories back of playing the game as a kid. More fun, no other worries and just spending hours in the nets until the sun was going down, or those first senior games when you weren’t really sure what was going on and 50 overs felt so so long.
I got chatting with Tim about it and asked him how he would make it again, if he made one today. (This was when I made the error). He explained, I liked the sound of it and asked him to give it a go whenever he had the chance as I would probably take a modern version of my dearly beloved Uzi.
Have waited a fair while but here it is… an absolute monster and I am made up with it.
2.10ish
3/4 inch shorter blade
“Dhoni” style (more like classic style) round toe.

Btw if anyone wants to join the petition for Keeley to bring a Cadbury purple sticker to their Worx and Superior ranges please let me know. It didn’t work on the day but I don’t intend to stop asking them for it 🤣
-
Proper BMF that is @ch1p - I don't get bat envy too often, but often for the bats you get, I make an exception. 😂
-
What a bat @ch1p, such a nice side profile and really nice to look at. Good amount of chunk yet still elegant and sleek!
-
That is lovely.
If I hadn't just got two from him myself , their phone would be ringing for another order. Is there any narrowing around the top third?
-
Is that one of the keeleys made for Uzi just with seeing the fish tail handle?
-

If to me mate, then I don’t have callipers for an accurate check but with a builders tape measure and the naked eye it’s probably between 107 and 108 both in the middle and top third 😊
-
Another Keeley to share some photos of.
I picked this bat up off @t2ylo when I saw him post on Twitter that this one would form part of a batch that would soon be making its way onto eBay.
The bat has been used so as it has been a bit of a quiet day here, I thought I would take off the old scuff, give it a sand and polish before adding a new scuff and grip.
With a couple of brand new Keeleys here, I was keen to get one that was ready to play from the moment it arrived, so this one had added appeal.
I assume this one is a grade 3 due to the grain structure, but she packs a punch and I'm certainly looking forward to trying to find the middle on her at nets later this week.
Weight: 2lb 9.8oz with medical tape binding to thicken the handle, scuff sheet and thick grip (no toe guard).
Enjoy!

The grade is on the handle sticker. Correct me if I'm wrong, but non Keeley bats which get refurbished lack the handle sticker for that reason.

I can assure you it’s a genuinely Keeely as it used to be mine.
Handle sticker hasn’t survived the constant grip changing. From memory it is G3 (quite a good looking one tho)
Also handle inserts, skinny oval, trademark shoulders and it’s the most Keeley shape imaginable - the 074
-
I’ve managed to pinch a pretty special one from a friend before he moves over to Australia.
2.9ish
Regular sh length blade
Slightly shorter than usual handle

Keeley make absolutely lovely cricket bats but I am finding customer service is shockingly poor, has anyone had any similar experiences? Im extremely frustrated right now but dont want to share the full experience on a private forum.

Yes I am in the midst of a very frustrating experience myself!

Getting a response isn't the problem mate. I don't want to air my issues on here, they called me yesterday and we had a chat and agreed a plan. I just feel sometimes email or social media messages isn't the best option for communication when you are spending a considerable (imo) amount of money. A quick phone call and chat generally sorts things and helps the customer feel comfortable.

Abit of a thread revival - thought I would share this seasons selections
3 beautiful pro keeleys - all with zero concaving and weighting 2lb8oz to 2lb1oz.

Popped into Keeley on Saturday. Tim was there and the workshop/showroom was packed. Really great experience and came away with this 2 12, David Warner shape that absolutely flies and has a huge middle!!
Few specs:
Edge 40mm
Spine 65mm
Toe centre 26mm
Shoulder edge 16mm
Had a really great experience with Tim who kindly showed me around and shared many anecdotes about players he’s had in recently.

I could be getting confused but weren't the Warner GN Kabooms pre bat size rule change? Assuming this is the post rule change Warner shape or something similar.

Edges and Toe are larger on the Keeley so I dont think the rule has anything to do with it. Middle also looks slightly lower.

I don't think you had an actual Warner Kaboom in that case, maybe just the model, but not the actual replica? He used to use absolutely huge bats back when he was with GN from memory, and that was pre-gauge era, albeit with a small stretch between October 2017-sandpaper gate where he'll have used gauge compliant GN bats.
Gorgeous shape - not far off their Sehwag shape actually - they do make for a fair few players, so no surprise some use very similar profiles. Gotta dig mine out for a little photoshoot...

I have just watched a GCCC video from 7 years ago and the players edition is very different to the bat I had. However it also looks very different to this bat - still has the large edges but much more concaving and it does look to have had a higher spine and middle.

Picked this one up the other week - used it Saturday...it has such a wonderful sound to it and great pickup. I shall enjoy using this one this season.

Has a totally different press to any keeley i have had before (I have had plenty!) firmer but a lovely snap to it. This was in a batch made for a Kent pro and was rejected so I dread to think how good the ones he took were! lol

How many times are these keeleys been pressed? Or how many times keeleys are generally pressed?

Yes, I suspect that'll be because what Warner uses now will be pretty different from what he used then, when there were no limits in the depth of a cricket bat. Tim does/did do a pre-regs Warner, I'll try dig it out for some snaps.
These were advertised as the Warner Profile bats a couple of years back:

A controversial subject which was discussed on another page and the consensus from industry experts was that whether its once or thrice it makes no difference.
-
During gulf war 2, we were delivered local bottled water whose tagline was "Thrice Purified" To my mind, that didnt say much about the quality of their purification process if you had to do it 3 times!
Talking to TK, his pressing process is a bit like the colonels secret sauce recipe!!
-
What happened to that guy who had 10 identical Gunn and Moore Players Editions, then decided he was switching to Keeley?

Can't imagine that it doesn't make any difference.

Can't imagine that it doesn't make any difference.
It doesn't, whether a bat has a 2 stage press, or a 3 stage press or an 8 stage press, as long as the fibres are hardened enough to hit a ball and make the bat perform it doesn't matter at all.

Okay,
Just checked on their website, Pressed 3 times by TK.
-
If you press your bats 4 times it's better cos it's 1 more..
A la spinal tap.. :D

I mean, it's not like your going to be whacking loads of cricket balls on it or anything...

lovely bat, is it a SB/LH setup? With that shape it should pick really good too
-
It's actually a standard Short Handle. Pick up is lovely considering the weight.

Lovely looking bat.
-
Just to say you cant judge a Keeley shape by its stickers - for bats direct from them, they are happy for you to have whichever stickers on any bat.
If its full profile, no concaving, thats the Superior profile. Worx has bigger edges and some concaving.

Whilst sitting on the sofa for much of last Saturday watching the rain fall, waiting for the inevitable message to come through that my first league game of the season was cancelled, I started working my way around the various Insta accounts for some of the larger and the smaller batmakers we have in the UK.
At some stage on the Saturday, I saw Keeley post some images of a new sticker range that they were launching in a very fetching royal / cadbury purple.
Over the long weekend, Keeley had 20% off all items using a discount code, so I thought I would get in touch with Keeley via their Instagram account to learn a little more about the new labels. From what I was told, this colour set will form part of their permanent range and if I were to place an order via the website, they would be happy to add these stickers to the bat.
I decided to take the plunge and order:
- Grade 3 Superior (2lb 8oz - 2lb 10oz)
- A Pink Bat Cover
- A set of Worx II Batting Gloves
I had a few messages on Tuesday to confirm the finer details of my order and yesterday, the box arrived with the new kit.
The bat is exactly what I was looking for. 2lb 9.1oz in its current form (I will butcher the grip setup at some stage today) and the gloves feel lovely.
Tapping up with both a new ball and an older ball, the bat feels great and makes a super sound. I will get the edges and the toes knocked in a little further and perhaps get ready to give it a go on Sunday.
Enjoy some photos!

So, at the start of the season, I decided to get an order in for a Superior bat with the new Cadbury Purple stickers applied.
Having used that bat for the last 3 or 4 weeks, I have been thoroughly impressed so for no reason whatsoever, I thought I would place another order.
I decided to replicate the order from last time:
- Grade 3 Superior
- Finished weight of 2lb 8oz / 2lb 9oz
- All back WORX stickers
Having placed the order late on Tuesday, I was not expecting to have DPD knock on my door this morning with bat in hand! Initial impressions are as positive as the previous. A super looking blade, especially for a grade 3. It feels really nice in the hands and has hit the brief completely with a finished weight on 2lb 8.4oz.
Here is what arrived:

Sorry for reviving an old topic but I thought better to do this than to start another one!
I’ve had a Worx 017 for the last couple of years which has been an absolute gun, but is starting to break apart - so I’m on the hunt for another Keeley.
I got an 074 in a recent sale - was the same weight as my 017 but had a much heavier pickup so I sent it back as I knew I wouldn’t use it.
Was wondering if anyone else had found similar?
I think I may try a superior next time round so would also appreciate anyone sharing their experiences with them as well.

Excellent that there is a topic just for Keeley bats. This will obviously include older Newbury and Black Cat bats, plus the odd more custom bat I assume ;)
Will just start by posting a pic myself.

Black Cat! You still got one @petehosk ?
-
I have indeed! Black Cat Shadow. Obviously made by Tim when he was still at Newbury. :D
-
Gutted I got rid of the Joker I had now
-
No evidence of your bat buying reducing with age then Pete... I think you have more bats in that coffin than I have owned in my life!

Does anyone know how to easily remove the resin toe guards on a Keeley?
Just got a custom after using a superior the last season, it's exceptional and worth the bit extra.

Very gently slide a utility knife under the edge of it and you should be able to wiggle it free with your fingers.
-
Thanks, I've heated up and done the same with rubber toes in the past, wasn't sure if these were brittle.
-
Should come off easy enough as Jimbo has instructed. Just put of interests, why don't you want to leave it on?

I've just orbital sanded them off in the past for some folks, just some 120 grit seemed to work

Some on social media suggested the toes can blow out with these resin toe guards
No idea if there is any truth to it but I guess u likely Keeley would continue doing it if that was the case
-
If we're believing everything we read on social media we're all doomed!
-
Have to say, I've only had good experiences with these style toe guards. Yet to see it do anything but protect the toe, and I've toed more than a few.

Over the past year or so of being injured, I’ve been admiring Keeley’s work and have become obsessed with it. I think my Keeley collection may have gone a bit overboard lol.
