Title: New 2011 range
Post by: Colesy on August 25, 2010, 11:32:09 AM
Thought I'd get in there like a rat up a drain pipe and see what new gear is being released for next season.

Couple of posts about GN's bats but anything else?

Samit Patel is, in fact, a legend. This is a man who decided that eating curry was more important than playing for England and getting loads of money. He sits alongside Jimmy (at least I'm the best player in my family) Ormond who also got dropped for being to fat and prefering food (or beer) to cash and glory.

Just because Michael Vaughan was England captian, the best player in the world, glorious redeemer of the Ashes in 2005, doesn't make him any more of a legend than Samit Patel.

oh. I see your point.

lol good argument in defence of all rotund men out there...Ian Austin springs to mind!!!
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: Buzz on August 26, 2010, 03:44:01 PM
Ian Austin - he was a player "With a waistline somewhere between Billy Bunter and Friar Tuck, Austin was an unlikely sporting figure. His approach to the wicket wasn't exactly threatening either - he trundled in with short, rhythmic strides - but he was accurate and could move the ball off the seam"

I always thought it was a shame he wasn't part of Adam Hollioake's squad of legends which (dubiously) lifted the Akai Singer Champions Trophy in Sharjah... Dougie Brown, Matthew Flemming, Ali Brown, Mark Ealham, Nick Knight, Graham Thorpe, Graham Hick, Alec Stewart, Dean Headley, Berty Croft... our finest one day team... erhem.

3 colours (1 for each grade) for 2011, the stickers above are 2011 Super Premium.

CoR3 stickers are completely new. MMi3 are similar to the IPL ones with a few tweaks such as spot varnishing and a slightly smaller front sticker.

Puma are the leading big brand for design work, it is all working very well for me, GN are still stuck in the era of splash random colours and shapes on everything, it doesn't work and despite the finest pedigree in the field has shown itself to be playing catch up in most areas.

I think AOC will be going to Twickenham by the sound of it.

Some people got kicked out last year, but in an MCC tie it's unlikely you'll be turned away.

Super6 is easier for the general public to get into as they don't have personalised invites and a register.

New ranges for everyone, Puma have done a traditional shape bat and all revamped stickers.

New GM Luna. With rather odd cut outs. All new GM stickers.

New Kookaburra Roque, Orange coloured.

New GN Legend, Quantum and Kaboom. Legend looks awesome, but will be £360 ish.

Slazenger haven't changed much, just added different cilours

im picturing bigger outside egdes dependant upon if ur LH or RH as you would think having more meat on the outside edge would be where more shots hit than the inside edge...i know on the last 2/3 bats iv had its always the outer edge of the bat thats split ???

Pagey's left handed - His set-up is soooo much better

Sorry you can't use that as an excuse  :( - it is supposed to help as your left hand is at the top controlling the bat... I also fall into the am left handed but bat right handed category... :o

Indeed, I hit a very nice drive into the trees on the right off the tee, which would be a 6 over extra cover...

Softs should be interesting.

Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: chipsticks on September 17, 2010, 05:18:40 PM
Hey Guys,

Gray nicolls catalogue is saying

Legend:Embodies quality and performance at its absolute best with
each cricket bat made using the finest available willow.
Only hand selected clefts that represent the premium 1%
of willow available will be used in the hand crafting of every
Legend bat.
Legend provides you the with experience of playing in
the spirit of crickets greatest players and the opportunity
to create your own history

Oblivion:New for 2011. Gray-Nicolls has used it’s heritage and
knowledge of bat making to introduce the Oblivion. With
its mirrored cosmetics and distinctively large lower middle
profile, the Oblivion creates the perfect blend of tradition
and innovation. Ideally suited for front foot play all around
the ground.

Quantum:New for 2011. With power and performance a given in
today’s modern game, Gray-Nicolls has continued to
evolve and introduces Quantum. Distinctive cosmetics and
a square toe profile, Quantum will light up any ground with
its abundance of power.

Kaboom:New for 2011. The explosive nature of T20 and David
Warner is the reason Gray-Nicolls developed the
Kaboom™. The Kaboom™ boasts a dangerously large
profile, massive edges and signature square toe to
produce an abundance of power to clear any boundary
on any ground.

Edge:New for 2011. Following on from the successful T20 Dual bat,
Gray-Nicolls continues to innovate the bat making process to
keep pace with an ever changing game. The Edge’s handle is
offset to combat any sideways movement in the pitch and aid
the common batting fault of over balancing. Simple but hugely
effective without having to learn a new shot or take any
performance away from the blade.

Nitro, Powerbow and Evo are exactly the same as last year. softs have changed. new top nitros look terrible imo, test pads are available in powerbow or oblivion livery. Gloves look good but only slight changes. keeping gear is in my opinion like previous years ( meaning wont compete with the regulars kook and puma.) but does look okay.

chip :)

sorry colesy, didnt see that you had posted it already.

And of course the 'Goose. You all have a new bright multicoloured array of softs to look forward to.

Spoke to Andy from Willostix last night, he said i should be able to have some photos of their new gear after the show. I'll get them up on here as soon as i have them

Willostix had a load of different types of the Stick which were interesting.

Nothing too exciting going on really, Newbery only have the TT which is new.

You are right, they are releasing the TT for next year......they are also releasing something else rather special which he didnt tell you about :D
They've only added the TT to their catalogue and price list. Will they do a mid season release?
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: SillyShilly on September 24, 2010, 10:30:34 PM
I'm suprised to hear that they didnt showcase their new range. (besides the TT).....perhaps the idea was scrapped or a release later in the year like you say.
How was the show for Mongoose today?

New Nike shoes are awful, very orange. Salix bats very good, loved a particular vantage bat that will be on it's way to me plus good softs. Liked the newbery thruxton pad and gloves. Chase had nice bats and softs. Not a fan of boom boom, stand looked very quiet all the time I was there.

Yeh, was good. Good feedback on softs which was pleasing as I thought we we've tried a pretty unique range if colours in them. Positive about our new signings too.

Look forward to seeing the softs in the flesh at some point, i know last year that the softs were limited in their availability - will these be pushed a little more this year?

Afridi being older than Pollard can easily hit longe six.

But I must also say that Pollard smashes the "small" bowlers. I mean have you ever seen him going wild in an international match against a good international team?

Yup he definitely is entertaining to watch. I remember llast year when he played for T&T he played very good but I have never seen him performing at international stage. I believe he doesn't play for his nation he just plays for money after seeing his behavior recently

Mongoose - Nice new labels and colours.
Only snapped a couple of pics, as only had my iphone!!
But alas, I didn't get pics of the gloves. And the top of the range gloves I tried on were so light!!! They felt as though you were barely wearing any...pittard palms as soft as a clouds on a Spring day!

The Purple ones are Grade 1 (Super Premium) RRP£325
The pink ones are grade 2 (Premium) RRP£225
The orange ones are grade 3 (Series) RRP£150

Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: petehosk on September 25, 2010, 02:37:46 PM
The batting gloves are RRP £30 for the Series, RRP of £45 for the Premium, but if you can afford the RRP of £65 for the Super Premium I was take those!
These Super Premium gloves are probably the lightest and possibly the most comfy gloves I've ever tried on. If you get the chance, try some on!  8)
Batting pads are £35, £65 and £95 (RRP) for the 3 grades.
And some of the bags look decent too! So all in all, some decent gear displayed.
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: maxy1 on September 25, 2010, 02:47:46 PM
did the pads seem light ??, dont think i could ever stump up £160 for pads and gloves no matter how good they were , especially with ayrtek doing their packages
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: petehosk on September 25, 2010, 02:52:26 PM
The RRP of these, and the actual prices that some Internet stores sell them for is normally different!
The pads seemed light, but didn't seem as light as my Morrant Ultralite Internationals, but it's hard to tell! They seem decent enough. The reason I mentioned the gloves though was because they felt gorgeous and were as light as a feather!

Nike shoes are white and orange...they got well and truely tangoed!!!!!!

There are some great new Asics..lighter, more supportive and as classy as ever.
Gray Nicolls have some very decent cricket shoes too - watch out for them!

M&H haven't changed their bags that I noticed, but they are nice though.
Other brands looked ok, but didn't look in too much detail, as there were other things to look at!  :D
But the guy at GN took me through their new gear, and they had a lovely duffle!
But if I had of chosen one, it probably would have been the Salix bags! they make classy gear!

Snr G1 and G2 made in UK. Hunts do a few, majority are made by someone else.
Jnr and G3 in India

Can't say anymore than that, can't say who the player is yet either.

Gloves are split style, multicoloured red, pink and purple on every glove.
Pads are modern Super Premium pads is what Hayden wore in the IPL with the lower 2 ranges based on that.

I think the middle ones are nicest as well, all of them would clash horribly with my gear but they fit in well with the mongoose bats.

I must admit that the middle ones are more subtle and nicer than the others....but they do not feel as nice on as the top gloves.

Ok - Hosky's Top 5 from the Lords Trade Show.......

Number 5: Millichamp & Hall

These are my number 5 from the show, due to their very nice softs, bags and other gear.
But also their classy bats. But the main reason for M&H being in my top 5 list is their new model of bat they added!
It is top of the range bat called the AMPLUS. It is a very nice bat too - The RRP will be around £380 which means it's the most expensive stick! But the bats that were there weighed around 2'9 and had edges of around 40mm (or thereabouts) and a great pickup! This was based on the bats they have made for Pros (restickered as other brands of course!) and they even had some counter balance weight at the top of the handle! I must admit it was a beauty!!
This would have been higher up my list but there was no update on their softs, and that was the only new model!

Number 4 - Mongoose

Some real effort with their updates here!
The bat labels looked decent and nice that it's easier the tell the grades apart with specific colours!
Evidently, the colours were cleverly produced to tie in with popularity in the next 2-3 years. So clever thinking and planning for the future!
The grade 1 and 2 bat colours looked great. Decent softs too made it a well thought out display!
But the two things that made this number 4 for me were the top line gloves being superb quality and feel!
And the second thing is the exciting signing!

No change of stickers on the M&H. And may try one out eventually but not just yet.
The Amplus certainly looks and feels like a great bat...the size of a generous 2'14 but 5oz lighter!

Number 3 - Chase

Chase does not have a lot of exposure but it is at my number 3 due to 2 reasons! (Contraversal I know)
There are 2 new models of bat -
T20 model: the blade is an inch or so shorter with longer handle, and looks a decent bat. Would I use one above all other T20 bats...NO.
But the second bat is really very nice indeed! The BELUGA model is lovely profile, well balanced and feels great in the hands.
But it takes more than two new models of bats to make my number 3...I'm not that easy to please!
There is new technology under the scuff sheet which is like a glue/thin gel? Wasn't told too much about it but it offers alot more protection against cracking and damage! And also they are working on technology where the ball mark is shown on the scuff sheet for 2-3 seconds so that the batsman can look at where the ball hit on the bat immediately after the shot is played. I'm not sure how close they are to adding that but it sounded immenant!
They were talking about the scuff sheet too, but I can't remember the full details which made it different!  :(
Anyway, the couple of different technological touches, plus the very nice Beluga model made this my number 3!

Number 2 - Gray Nicolls

They had the biggest stand and lots of new gear. They have ovbiously been busy boys this year with all the new helmets, shoes, bags, pads, bats, etc. But I need to pick out the specifics which put GN in at number 2!!
Four reasons I made made this number 2:
1 - Perfect duffle bag! Pro Performance Duffle Bag. Has padded shoulder straps and padded on the back to allow someone to be able to run or cycle with this on. But perfect shape, design and looks.
2 - Great lightweight trainers with support in the inside arch area which is great for me (as I over pronate!)
Nice design and great support with better prices than Asics! Will it tempt buyers away? Who knows, but nice anyway!
3 - Legend wicket keeper gloves! I would say the very best keeper gloves I have ever tried on! They are light, fit nicely, and soft and comfortable! They feel amazing and I would be surprised if people don't love them!
4 - Legend bat! It is soooo gorgeous! The stickers look stunning but simple. But the profile and quality of the bat is amazing. Big and meaty and yet picks up beautifullly! I could be tempted, although talk was of £350-400 RRP!  :(

Number 1 - Salix

Well, I was surpised! The softs are always very good with Salix. The bags are excellent.
But the new bats.................... :D
There are 3 models: The Pod Knife, The Pod Black and the Pod White.
They have different levels of willow for each model - Performance (G1), Grade 1 (G1 better) and the Players (G1 Woof!)
The Pod Knife had slightly squarer shoulders and slightly diff profile - Forgot to take much notice as I was too busy admiring the other models!!
The Pod Black - Great all round profile with some concaving for lighter pickup.
The Pod White - smaller edges and less concaving. Tons of wood in the meat of the bat! Loved this bat!

And the Players bats were shaped beautifully! The edges were shaped to be a little more narrow at the back of the bat than at the front.
The bat stickers are new too! And I would say that the bat labels are the best I have ever seen on any bat!!
The make the old stickers look ordinary. The workmanship and quality of the bats was top notch!

I don't have any pics of those lush Salix bats - but I assume the pics of new range will be through on the internet retail sites sometime soon?
And Newbery only had the TT bat. Most other bits were the same. They did have a new gel type material they are using in their Thruxton gloves to ensure the fingers are even better protected as the gel disperses any ball impact across the material, and will ensure the fingers don't take full impact! But that was the only thing they mentioned to me.

Looks as though the Thruxton falls in between the GT and the top of the range SPS gloves and pads!
The RRP for the Thruxton will be £99.99 for the pads and £65 for the gloves. Obviously they will retail cheaper than that from Owzat and other internet retailers.
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: thebd11 on September 26, 2010, 12:12:38 PM
fair enough, would definitely never pay 100 for pads, reckon i would pay up to 80 for a premium pair, and 50 for gloves
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: petehosk on September 26, 2010, 12:14:46 PM
I would imagine that the Thruxton pad and gloves would retail for that sort of price (£80/50) via the more reasonable internet sites! Never take too much notice of the RRP - it's merely the Suggested price!
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: thebd11 on September 26, 2010, 12:17:37 PM
indeed, whack em up, to cut them down :)
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: petehosk on September 26, 2010, 12:23:33 PM
I can see by the price lists that Salix, Newbery, etc all have a price lists. These list the Trade prices - these are obviously prices they sell to the trade for.
And they also have the Suggested prices too! This way, most of the retailers will have a good idea how much they are expected to sell to the public for! But the true price retailers charge will be dependant on how many overheads they have - for example, an internet only retailer should be able to sell a little cheaper than a shop, as their costs should be less!
Plus some retailers buy in bulk and are offered more of a discount!
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: thebd11 on September 26, 2010, 12:31:22 PM
So in terms of comparison to say Salix, and other big(ish) brands, were these pads, cheap, middle or higher range price-wise?

Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: petehosk on September 26, 2010, 01:13:34 PM
Well - Salix are similar in price.
Both are top end product. The Salix Pod 1 pads and gloves (and Pod Black gloves) are RRP of around £100/£70 (£100 for pads and £70 for gloves.) The Newbery Thruxton (£100/£65) and SPS (£110/£70) are the same kind of excellent quality!
The Thruxton have now introduced the impact gel technology but unless you play on a very bouncy wicket where the opposition bowlers are serving up some 90mph+ balls, then who knows how much the gel will be needed.
Let's just say that if the top of the range Salix and Newbery softs are not good enough for you, then good luck!  :(

I would say that quality wise there would be little or nothing to choose between them. So I would try them on to see if either fit you better that the other, and if they all fit you well then maybe choose whichever colour and style you prefer!

Plus what was this scuff sheet technology like ?

Thanks

Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: petehosk on September 26, 2010, 01:21:50 PM
Tommy my boy...the impact gel was by the fingers, as the impact caused by ball (which normally traps and fingers between bat and ball) is where the finger damage occurs! I did ask if they can then use less 'normal' padding to lighten the glove, but they said that they still use the same amount of padding.
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: petehosk on September 26, 2010, 01:24:53 PM
Yes - the Chase gloves and pads looked decent enough. Was more interested in the Beluga bat so should have paid a little more attention!!
The gel can help 'self repair' any damage and sort of bong it together a little! Or this is how I understood it at least!
Not sure whether they incorporate it into the sheet, but I would assume they do.
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on September 26, 2010, 01:26:48 PM
lol i see trying to say they are using impact gel would add weight to the gloves as such as its not a light material...looked at this a while back when doing my dissertation etc so having put in a good years worth of work its obviously a point of interest. Ideally you would want it as the layer that lies next to your figners by which point the cheaper materials ontop would have dampened the impact anyway

By having advanced materials in the gloves it means you can scale back on the thickness of plastizote etc but people then become worried that they might not protect them if looking at a glove with only 1cm of "padding" present between them, the ball and the bat handle ???
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: Cover_Drive on September 26, 2010, 01:27:25 PM
Just a quick question Pete that are Salix soft changing for 2011 or they are the same?
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on September 26, 2010, 01:32:03 PM
i think ul find most companies change their softs on a yearly basis to ensure that whatever was pruchased in 2010 is now "outdated" so people have more incentive to purchase the new kit.
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: petehosk on September 26, 2010, 01:35:56 PM
I am not sure if the impact gel was the same or if they had advanced the technology?
And I did ask them about the padding for that precise reason!! I would have expected the gel to be a 'replacement' for the normal padding, or at least so that they could make the gloves less bulky and lighter.....but obviously not! Maybe they just haven't performed enough impact testing with lesser amounts of padding yet?

Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: thebd11 on September 26, 2010, 01:37:44 PM
So Pete, will the Beluga RRP at the same price as the other bats, and different grades?

I.e £300 RRP for FLC?
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on September 26, 2010, 01:39:18 PM
ill bring our ACIS gloves along when we meet up next and the bat mallet and u can see what u make of them ;)

looks a bit silly when whacking urself over the hand with a mallet but u can inflate them and hit urself and then deflate them and hit urself to physically feel the difference!

Either way looking at £65 for some gloves is pretty expensive!

Hi CD

Didnt really see any gloves and pads from Salix last year.
So I can't be 100% sure. But I am 99% sure there were updates in their softs.
I do rate their softs, and their bats look awesome with the updated profiles, models, and stickers for 2011.
I wonder if I could persuade Andrew to use the new stickers on any refurbs? It's worth sending my Praestantia and Fera in for a refurb if they would use the new stickers!  8)

when i had GM Le gloves, they felt really unprotective. I didn't have confidence in them as the padding was quite thin
Title: Re: New 2011 range

this is a common problem as people associate thickness of padding with protection!
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: petehosk on September 26, 2010, 01:46:52 PM
The Beluga RRP obviously depends on size and willow.
For SH 167 model of Beluga, RRP is £185. And for the 175 model it's £250
And looks like there is a 10% surcharge is you want a bespoke service - workshop visit, watch it being made to your spec.
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: thebd11 on September 26, 2010, 01:48:43 PM
Yeh, because the FLC version of any bats is £300 and you can have those made to your specs, so models of bat doesn't really matter I don't think, so it's just the type of stickers really I think. What were the stickers like on the Beluga?

can't go wrong with puma gloves really, light and protective. Also had Kook Rp's which were good but a bit weighty compared to pumas.

The Newbery I had were very nice too! Had sps 1's and grizzly blues.

and what you were saying Tom about the less padding sometimes better, is demonstrated by the fact that the 909 GM gloves are much bigger and bulkier, but all the pros use much smaller thinner gloves, just with better padding/density, or however else you explain it :)

pittards palm, yes, normal foams and protection apart from that.....£95...doubtful!....£35....more realistic for a brand that went under and others have repalced them

They are absolutely quality gloves. but not worth the £95 by any stretch of the imagination

£35 though is an absolute bargain :)

Thanks mate. I appreciate it.

I really like Salix gloves but the price tag pulls me back. Will try to look for bargain in 2010 model. I really don't mind using an "outdated" pair of gloves.

It would be great. Oh if I buy a Salix 2010 now in sale and then send it for restickering. Would that be possible?

Some of the best gloves that I've seen are the new Woodworms, they have genuine Pittards, plastozone ( i think ) plastic protection, very comfy, and good protection :)
Mind sharing the link for new Woodworm gloves? Would be interested in seeing them.

Thanks

Thanks Tom!

Good work by CA. Wonder why they don't use original Pittards in their own gloves (CA). I guess it would make them expensive and no one in Pakistan would be willing to pay that price.

I once emailed them and they said that CA makes Woodworm plus when you go on CA's website you will see Woodworm banner there as well.

I have spoken and read few retailers on this forum saying they have seen Woodworm at CA factory.

no no no! CA is separate to Sports HQ. Sports HQ own Woodworm but have exclusivity rights for CA in europe. These are facts. The following are assumptions: Sports HQ got CA to make the Woodworm gear. CA in turn bought exclusivity rights for woodworm in pakistan and made their own versions. capiche?

woodworm is owned by a guy in abu dhabi apparently,i play club with a guy who works there, and my old school coach, captain of bermuda dave hemp was sponsored by them so he was able to get cheap ca bats and cheap woodworm gear, which led me to believe that the sports hq was a banner for both the trading rights of woodworm and ca, not necessarily owning them ?

Just because they've seen Woodworm at the CA factory and because Woodworm is distributed in Pakistan by CA doesn't mean everything is made by them.

Woodworm gear has also been spotted in Indian factories too.

Don't think the pads have d30, as GM have exclusivity for it in the cricket market. There are some on the forum with it but they are just concept pads i think

I think GM have a contract with d30, so any other cricket products with d30 is breaking it and therefore can't be allowed.

I am sure Tom will know more about this

GM have freshened up their look- all products feature new clearer GM logo for improved visibility from the boundary. They are also introducing factory fit GM bat engraving personalization to make your bat unique to you.
This is what GM say about the New LUNA bat. LUNA DXM new for 2011 with our most advanced deployment yet of orbital CAD/CAM technology. Luna not only looks incredible, wait until you feel and play with its perimeter powered perfection.

I don't particularly enjoy the orange, much prefered the blue but I suppose they needed to change something this year as most of the other stuff is near enough the same.

Nope, not the new nikes either. New Nikes have 'flywire' technology!
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: mattw on September 30, 2010, 04:30:47 PM
Ah right!

It's just fairly surprising for people to be wearing some nike shoes to net in and they're orange - considering the only info I had of them was they were very orange...

Why is that sort of technology used in cricket shoes? They're going to be way too expensive for anyone!
Title: Re: New 2011 range

flywire technology, bet they are expensive!!

Dont like the flywire in the footie boots though so we'll see what its like in cricket.

Regarding GM's range, I understand the sales of the Icon bats have been pretty impressive this year. They use a CNC machine to make the bats but I cannot see how the machine can get the best out of every cleft? and then have the temerity to charge the same or more than a truly hand made bat.

Admittedly I love the Icon shape but surely in the art of podshaving/batmaking man comes out on top.

Does anyone agree or is that a tumble weed I see?

Those shoes are Nike CourtBallistec 2.3s, Hussey has a tendency to wear spiked up tennis shoes when he bats.

Other companies (including some on this very forum) use machines to shape/part-shape. It just so happens that GM have marketed their usage of machinery.
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: Talisman on October 01, 2010, 02:06:19 PM
Most of the main Indian companies use them too, they are more accurate.

Look at the Salix homepage and you will see a pile of pre shaped clefts that have not been spliced yet. You will not see them being used in any of their videos or marketing but there are shots of them being handled with pre cut shoulders, just like the ones on the Screaming Cat site, all cut ready for finishing.
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: roco on October 01, 2010, 02:08:38 PM
I agree that alot machine shape there bats and that's fine as apparently it's the pressing that's the key but a truly hand made bat is still a thing of beauty so torn really guess it's the end result that matters

GM seems to leave very little shaping to hands is this the same for other manufacturers? I don't dislike machines doing the work but I would assume a human can get more out a cleft. I agree that cutting excess wood off the back at the shoulders and toe saves time when shaping but the actual profile/balance/feel of the bat surely needs that human touch?

Intresting indeed i sure i told the forum about the scuff sheets around 6 months ago but some on here thought they new what i was going on about but that why there going to be around 10 pound a pop

On the new kit for 2011 season,i popped in to Hawk today and had a look at their new ranges.I saw the new prototype stickers on one of their newly shaped bats.Labels were only paper but going on what they told me they going too look very nice in chrome. The bat shape has a bigger swell at the bottom and slightly thicker at the top of the blade, willow looks as good as ever. The softs look really good this year with two new gloves, the top of the range is a sausage style in white and silver with pittards leather palms.Tried these on and they felt superb with lots of protection and cost £60.New batting pads and wk pads and gloves both look smart,wk gloves are very crazy! If i go again i try and get some pics.

don't agree that they look cheap, look to be fundamentally a decent glove.

they're just following the thruxton motor racing theme with black and white checks, but when compared to the colourways from other manufacturers make them look a little bland.

Kook, puma and goose are fairly bold. GM aren't imo, GN are becoming more bold. I dont think its a bad thing, and certainly seems to be "in" currently. But i do like a classy salix, newbery look at times :)

GN Kook Puma Mongoose are all very bold in my opinion and for the part about bold colours being in at the moment well that's a matter of opinion but what people think is in right now wont be come summer 2011, i much prefer the understated quality look in white cream silver etc etc !
Title: Re: New 2011 range

The usual suspects are bold, the usual ones are subtle.

No huge brand strategy shifts and I wouldn't say most are bold or most are subtle.

Ive listed 4 out of say 5 companies who have the 2011 kit advertised and all in my opinion are bold and brash in terms of colours, some people love it others hate it that's the way the world works and I'm very much my own person and decide what i like or dislike. I'm certainly not one to listen to what people say is in etc and join the sheep que lol.
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: Tom on October 25, 2010, 07:47:51 PM
A lot of the guys like Adidas and Puma get advised by branding agencies such as WGSN as to what the fashions are and aren't.

Fashions aren't about opinions, they're manufactured by branding people
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: Watsontotty on October 25, 2010, 08:01:19 PM
I know what i like and what i don't and I'm on about bold brash colours which i don't need a branding agency to advise me on what i think is bold and brash. I have heard all the comments about whats in and whats not in terms of fashion and in terms of colours and could list many many differing opinions from different fashion houses in regards to this. I worked in the fashion industry for over 10 years and the companies paying the most in sponsorship and advertising have the biggest say of whats hot and whats not.

The only nice new products for me are the new GM LE Gloves, the Vantage gear, the Mongoose gloves and the new GN bats (Oblivion and Legend), and I base that opinion purely on the quality of the product at first glance. Although I am sure the Salix/Bradbury softs will be top class again.

Like many Kookaburra fans I was disapponted to see the Ice range go, and can't see why either. I can't see how the CCX range possibly sold more of each gloves/pads or bats.

I don't understand why they have ditched the Ice stuff... I have been using it for the last 3 seasons, but obviously electric blue is sooo last year. :(
It was very classy gear. The Ice sausage gloves were very nice, the pads were simply Blue RPs but £50 less.

There are some lovely looking ice 850 gloves on the bay for £40 that have pitards palms and were apparently going to will smith (not the actor!!), they look lovely!

Puma split production between Sareen and Sondhi for soft's, the top end are made by Sareen, there is a similar set up with the bats too in India with the top end being made in the UK and finished by Rob Pack for Puma.

I think they have the best looking and best produced goods for a big brand.

Find it odd how everyone is now hyping up a pittards palm, we used them on our gloves in 2005 but the pros said they preferred calf skin as it gave them a greater sense of touch on the gloves
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: Colesy on October 27, 2010, 11:29:41 PM
My only experience with Pittard gloves are my mate's Bradbury Players and they're very nice. But wouldn't pay a lot more for them over normal calf skin palms
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: peplow on October 27, 2010, 11:32:35 PM
i think its a nice luxory but not essectial, however i owuld always pick a pittards palm over a calf one if given the choice, your are so soft tom that i think it gives more of a feel of the bat!
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: Tom on October 27, 2010, 11:35:15 PM
Hayden and Symonds won't touch pittards palms. They do however go through 10 gloves a tournament.

The advantage I see with petards is they don't go hard once you've sweat in them.
Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: Cover_Drive on October 27, 2010, 11:57:23 PM
Apart from that Tom I would say the softness somewhat make them a bit more comfortable.

As far Hayden and Symo are concerned I guess it is ones preference

Title: Re: New 2011 range
Post by: Talisman on October 28, 2010, 07:32:10 AM
Pittard's leather is the same as non treated leather, most people including some in the industry seem to think that the pattern makes the difference, it doesn't. Having sat in their HQ in Yeovil and been shown all the types of leather available treated and untreated with water testing I understand what the treatment does. They cut a pattern in the leather because they can and it shows the difference between it and untreated standard leather.

Most brands want the softest leather in their palms so all the treatment does is allow the use of this as it prolongs the life of whatever leather is treated. You could use untreated leather for palms and change the gloves a lot but the same leather treated will stay softer longer and last better, even a Pro might see the benefit of this.

Sadly a lot of cheaper brands are just getting the pattern copied and claiming to use Pittard's, to me this is a great indicator of a brands worth and I'd avoid them.

Actually they are CA Plus and not 12,000 or 10,000.

Slaz stuff is out on talent cricket - first reactions - OMG! Pop art for the masses

Bats look well nice but softs are whack

(https://www.talentcricket.co.uk/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/Slazenger_V100_U_4cd7ed8315f72.jpg)(https://www.talentcricket.co.uk/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/Slazenger_V500_U_4cd7f9f54c314.jpg)(https://www.talentcricket.co.uk/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/Slazenger_V200_C_4cd7efc144f6c.jpg)

£70 for best gloves is way too much. Thats more than I pay for my pads lol

These gloves look [most] minging:

Pads look decent imo but, at £80, are around the price of the gloves!

Too many colours lol:

Why are there 2 different blues on the pads, non of which match the gloves?!

One of the best looking range by Slazenger lately. V100 looks massive and look like a great bat.

Pads look horrible whereas gloves are okay whereas multi colours one look alright as it's new to see and one of a innovation I would say.

I think that they're potentially having a bit of a renaissance. They aren't helped by the driftwood sold in Sports Direct, but I feel that their softs offer a quality and understated alternative to Puma, without being minimalist like GM and Newbery. A good few of the up and coming Yorkies use their gear and they could be part of the England set-up soon (Rashid, Bresnan, Bairstow).

Just a big humpy V12 classic and their range would be complete ... :)

I actually think the quality of the product is as good as anything else, but the market position seems to be getting smaller and the constant unveiling of each years range as the best bat design ever before being completely binned for another just sends out the message that they couldn't give a fig about the brand. Everything in the range lasts for 12 months only and as soon as the season is started the retailers need to get rid of it as it will soon become lasts years models.

i tried a pair of the top gloves on last season and they were very snug, i dont think they stand out in any way the traditionalist will go for newbs etc and someone wanting modern will go for Puma...... Slaz are stuck in the middle somewhere

they have gone with the orange as Mike Hussey is using the new orange kook range and is also sponsored by Nike

personally I think they are grim and they need to be really improved.

I am trying to organise a lunch with a mate who works at Nike to discuss them. Funnily enough he is evading me!!

Agreed, can't quite see them properly if you know what I mean. Sometimes photos make colours look completely different. Asics and Adidas were still by far the most popular choices in my area, I hope the price will come down.

This is the first photo I've seen of the new M&H Amplus, looks like an interesting shape, high edges distribution of weight and a "pro handle" (not sure what that is).

When I first saw the GM stickers I was disappointed, they did grow on me so I went to Owzat to have a closer look. I was really impressed with how classy and simple they were, I especially like the raised edges on the main front and back stickers- will be very hard to copy!

On the back of my fun-packed trip to Romida in Leatherhead yesterday – I pass on the following…

The Kook softs are as good as ever and they expect to sell loads of them – not so the bats which they said were mixed – apart from the red (CCX?) kit which was not so good to look at. We all agreed that the ICE kit would be missed as it was preferable to the replacement Orange range.

The G and M bats were extremely good (branding was a bit mixed and the APEX was not a popular shape) I thought the softs (the original gloves) looked a bit plane and were still expensive.

The GN stuff was pretty good especially the 5* bats for £150 – they (and I) felt these were better value for money than the Legend – which was admittedly extremely nice…

Of the more expensive bats they said they expected the Distinction and the new M and H bat the Amplus to be a huge hit (I couldn’t disagree)

They had some really good looking SF softs in stock and expected the bats to be very popular again this year.

Disappointingly they wouldn’t be offering any county gear this year – which given the rebrand and the enduring quality we also agreed was a shame.

Finally they said they would be stocking the Mongoose this season… :o

The old impala stickers were awesome and really good quality but then South australia redbacks sued them and they were forced to remove the animals from their stickers. Does anyone know if impala are still around or if they shut down?

Impala went bust, I think once GCCC stopped stocking them due to their products not being as good as they used to be, they lost their main source of business so they went bust. But I think they are going to re-open, not too sure when but thats what I read somewhere, can't exaclty remember where I read it though. GCCC went with bradbury instead, so hopefully Impala can go good again as they were a good brand a few years ago.

Impala make bats for half the aussie team, maybe if they went bust it would explain why aus were so poor in the ashes if they had all been given planks!

I had an Impala redback i bought from GCCC and it was a lovely bat picked up beautifully and am pretty sure it had some sort of counterbalance handle..... was great whilst using out in oz but back here the high middle was wasted and broke after too many drives low on the bat....... was a nice bat tho

I don't think they've made bats for the Aussie team for sometime now. I am 99% sure they went bust as their website does not exist anymore, even when you type it in google no impala sports website comes up.

Impala went bust in 2008

They couldn't have gone bust in 08 as I have last seasons GCCC catalogue 09-10, and they had all the Impala gear in their still, Bats, pads and gloves. So they must have gone for this season and maybe just revamping their brand.

Yeah the females used to be mainly sponserd by impala and they don't get anywhere near the amount of money than the blokes and pretty much have to buy their own kit, so they would have otten the bats 09-10 and thats not that long ago so they probs just keep the bats instead of buying new ones.

I was in Australia in 08 at G.C.C.C. and he said they bought loads of Impala kit so they just sold it off..

It was what i was told but look at the stickers out of the catalogue and the softs there the same from the previous season..

I had a good chat with a bloke from Kingsgrove Sports who corroborated what he said...

They do not sell them anywhere now to my knowledge

Could be wrong but the 3 leading cricket shops in Aus

Kingsgrove
Meulamans
Greg Chappell

None stock them i guess the brand is dead as we know it maybe they downsized

My bad, should have known as Impala bought out near range and GCCC still had the stuff from the previous year. On the GCCC facebook page someone asked if they still stocked Screaming cat or Impala and their response was;

"No we don't stock either. The owner of Screaming Cat (Julian Millichamp) decided to scale back the amount of bats he produced. It was very sad to see them go. Also after many good years the quality of Impala stated to decline, so we went with Bradbury."

Bit late really but I've had my hands on the new Slazenger V100 for the past week or two knocking it in. It isn't a £250 blade, infact one of the lower bleached ones, don't let this put you off as it has 10 straight grains and one small knot just above half-way on the blade. It also has a butterfly half-way up the blade but doesn't look unsightly. Comes with a lime toe guard and white octopus grip.

The bat has unbelievable balance, it feels very, very nice playing shots and for about 2.10/2.11 picks up surprisingly well. There is lots of concaving with a mid middle which seems good with a mallet. Edges are a fair size, at a guess about 28mm with a fairly raised spine and also a oval handle. There is quite a large bow in the blade and wouldn't be disappointed if I was given it as a gift.

I think £60 was paid for it and imo that's good value for money. Without the knot and the discolouration from the bleach this could easily be regarded as a nice bat.
