To be fair our captain is a (No Swearing Please). As for the lad in question, he is a 100% walker and he insists he didn't feel anything on his bat. Luckily cricket is a game of opinions - at least it gives us something to discuss. Proper conduct on the field works both ways and you have to respect the decision of the umpire even if you think it's wrong. People are also human and make mistakes, it happens.

You genuinely can't win when umpiring your own games, it's really difficult. Speaking generally now; if you umpire first, set a harsh standard with wides and don't give blatant lbw decisions then you're setting yourself up for retribution by the opposition. Then again if you bat first and umpire fairly there's always a chance of the oppo screwing you over in the 2nd knock. I find the fairest thing to do is be as fair as possible on everything and only give the "stone dead" lbw decisions, but even that upsets my moral compass as I'm a level 1 umpire.

What I don't agree with is sending youngsters out to umpire who don't know the rules, but then again if you have a young team there's often little option. The amount of stumpings I miss out on due to the lad at square leg not paying attention is criminal.

If it's any consolation I played first team Saturday and the neutral umpires were just as awful, giving some of the worst decisions I've ever seen including a catch behind that I didn't even appeal for because the batsman was nowhere near it.

So yes, I will hopefully see you later in the season, and if I nick it I'll walk. @calcurtis98

Nice one @richthekeeper, was way to worked up on Saturday to make any sense, but you've summed it up nicely on the umpire there. Hopefully see you down for a more fair view from both sides. I'll pass on the compliments to our umpires aged 53 and 45 for thier youthfulness. They umpired for 40 overs and were replaced only to bat lol, all the best with the rest of your games.

Haha I never said your team sent kids out to umpire - I wasn't there - but a lot of teams do!

I hope you're not swinging it both ways when I face you...  :D

Played against forum member @joeljonno tonight in York's T20 league. He clipped some nice crisp shots off his legs before succumbing to a full delivery (not from me I hasten to add). I bowled a couple of reasonable overs which managed to convince the skipper to give me another but unfortunately I repaid his faith by bowling some right old filth. I then umpired to see our side chase down the opposition's total but not without a few scares. Joel's team have some fine colts in their side, one in particular who bowled from my end was a left arm wrist spinner who could turn the ball both ways. He was too good for one of our batsman and I didn't need to refer any rulebook to adjudge him LBW.

Solid 50rtd on Sunday this week and a couple of catches keeping, coming into some needed form with the bat in the past few weeks. Was taking the bowling apart at nets too, until one reared up and smashed me in the helmet... still got a headache 36 hours on, fingers crossed I'm recovered from the concussion for Saturday.

My club's match was called off at 10am this morning so played as a pool player with my former club. We started off well as had opposition 30-6 at one stage before their No.7 then took control of the tail scoring 67 which meant they ended up on 130. The same lad then took 5 wickets for virtually nothing and somewhat embarrassingly, we were skittled out for just 22. My contribution was 0 with bat (inside edge onto pads then stumps), didn't take a wicket and to make matters worse, I could only get my finger tips on a caught and bowled chance not realising it's was going straight to mid off.

I've had better days  :o

Finally got my first league win of the season to my name!

Opposition batted first and mate 278-9 off 50. Their opener made a chanceless hundred before perishing near the end trying to give it a bit of long handle. I personally took 2-56 off 10 overs.

We then chased it down for 2 wickets in 40 overs, with numbers 3 and 4 making unbeaten centuries.

We managed a game today for the 2nds, we got put into field whilst the outfield was still sopping wet and such, we contained them to 200, when they were 100-1 at drinks, I took 3-42 off 13. We then chased it down in 39 overs, our opener scored a 127, and our skip scored a solid 57*. Big win for us as well

Another win for the mighty Chertsey 3XI steam-roller. We posted 230 off 35 overs in a friendly against a Middlesex side called Mucca-Pucca or Maxi-Pad or something and they fell 45 runs short in the chase.

0-30 off 7 for yours truly, with my regulation 2 plumb LBW's turned down and 2 dropped catches. Ho hum :)

Biffed off 297/5 in our 45 overs. I personally achieved.70 using my new Aldred Supreme Butterfly. We then bowled them out for 140. Good result as I work with one of their players (who got a duck).
